New primary book reader!
So I have Kindles, Nooks and now exploring the Kobo series of e-readers. I have a stack of them. Why? Seriously, who wants to carry around 10,000+ books? I DO. My library goes with me and is backed up a LOT. It fits on this 8gb onboard storage with room to spare. I have put images in showing the comparisons of screens. First picture: From left to write Left is a Kindle Paperwhite I bought this February [LOVE it, but these Kobos are in fact slightly BETTER] Next is a Kobo Aura H2O Gen 2 (6.8" screen) Third is the Kobo Aura ONE (7.8" screen) Far right is a B&N Nook reader SimpleTouch with GlowLight 2nd picture: Aura One (7.8") side by side with Nook 3rd picture: Aura H2O [second edition] side by side with the Kobo Aura One That orange-ish light is totally adjustable in brightness / intensity and you can go with normal light [like a the paperwhite display] during daylight hours. But it is very easy on the eyes. Page flipping has to be handled by pressing on the screen or swiping (presses can be adjusted to be vertically oriented [top back, bottom forward] or adjusted for horizontal. Swiping the page works as well. The paperwhite has a nice 6 inch screen and is utterly convenient to Amazon marketplace and beastly to anything else [no epub support even in 2017? come on] Now, the kobos start at 6.8" for the Aura H2O and go to 7.8 inches for this model (Aura ONE). As any woman can tell you, inches count. All of these are comfortable to hold in the hand, but the ability to easily sideload and use multiple formats has really made this Aura One reader stand out among the crowd. Oh and did I mention waterproofed? Want to read in the tub? By the pool? Oceanside? Kobo has that covered OUT OF THE BOX. Amazon, if you are listening? Bring this blueblocker tech into the next revisions and allow for other formats. All of the other e-reader builders My biggest complaint about ALL of them is BOOK MANAGEMENT. Let me have and easily organize thousands of books based on FILE STRUCTURE inside the e-reader!! Nook comes close but it only lets you view them in cover mode. I want to SEE my filenames in a nice series of lists and genres (directories). Do this and us bibliophiles will beat down your door. A second place alternate is allowing readers to manage tags [genres, authors, titles] and to easily manage collections via software on a laptop. Oh and BULK SELECT is a must. Final rant I do information security. I DO NOT trust cloud based solutions farther than I can throw them. If it's online it can get lost, copied, stolen, held for ransom. And disk space [micro sd cards] are dirt cheap. 32gb for 12 bucks is more space for books than I will ever use. Equifax losing control over 143 million records and Deloitte losing 250,000 customer facing private emails only makes me avoid the cloud more. Carry your library in your palm. Pick one of these readers up. You won't regret it.

This has been an excellent reader. Nice weight
This has been an excellent reader. Nice weight, excellent battery life, and the light color options are perfect - i prefer a more natural/warm white than most e-readers have with their almost blue backlights but if you like the "6500k" white look, it can do that. At its warmest color it's definitely orange, which is weird but real easy on the eyes.

Great despite a few quibbles
This was an excellent purchase. The display is crisp and well-defined, and the backlight is even in brightness, though not perfectly consistent in color. The software is reliable and speedy, and the Overdrive integration is perfect. This reader also supports every format I've tried. Downsides: with heavy use, it requires a charge every other day. Also, vertical swipes to control brightness are ineffective because too short a stroke fails to register, and too long overshoots. Those points aside, this is an excellent reader.

This is a good investment if u love reading
I love this reader!!!! My favorite thing ever. Sometimes the touch is unresponsive but add more passion to it and it works. I once bought Tropic of Orange on Apple Books and it refused to read the book! Turns out certain ebooks have some kind of protection...

Best ONE for me, but room for improvement
First, I'll state that I'm not a typical ereader customer. I like being able to tweak ebooks to format and style to my liking, which requires taking off any DRM protection on the file. So, I was looking for something that could read EPUB files. Sure, you can convert from MOBI to EPUB using calibre, but EPUB supports a lot more features than MOBI, and many times formatting and styling is lost in the conversion process. I looked at both the B&N Nook and this one, and eventually decided to go with the Kobo. After a few months, I'm still very happy with my purchase. Pros: - Larger size: less page turning, and larger images show up much better. The 6" ereaders are just a bit too small for me. - Water and dust proof. Not that I go swimming with my ereader, but it's nice to know I can drop it on the beach or spill something on it and it will be just fine. - 8GB internal storage: twice what you get on the Kindle or Nook. I like being able to keep my full library on the device. - Pocket app: Pocket is one of my favorite apps. If I see a long article I want to read later, or just don't want to read on the computer screen, I can just save it to my Pocket and pull it up on my Kobo. Once the article is on the Kobo, it works in offline mode, so you can come back to it without having to reconnect. - Supports multiple formats: I have many MOBI files I just don't feel like converting. It's nice to be able to have a mixture of EPUB and MOBI files and the reader handles them all just fine. - Auto blue light dimming: Screen gets yellower as it gets close to bed-time. Makes it easy on the eyes and helps me to not stay up too late. Cons: - Doesn't sleep automatically (wifi and light stays on), so you have to remember to hit the power button when you put it down or your battery will drain. - No djvu file support. Would be nice. - No (micro)SD slot. Unlike previous Kobo ereaders, there's no exanding the storage (can't open it up and take out the flash storage device either), so you're capped at 8GB. - Unintuitive controls, took me a while to feel comfortable navigating the thing. - Response time can be laggy, and sometimes doesn't register a tap or swipe - Unable to go to specific page or percent to go to in a book, you have to use a clumsy slider. Really annoying. Things that are "just fine": - Battery life lasts a solid week+ of heavy use, or 2 weeks+ of moderate use, as long as I keep the wifi off and remember to turn it off when not in use. - Web browser works. Still in beta mode, as is standard on ereaders now, but appreciated just the same. - PDF reader is usable as long as it's not small print or a lot going on on the page. The large size makes it better for PDFs than the Nook or Kindle, but still not a good option for technical or large-page books - Price is more than high-end Kindle ereaders, about $230 if you get from Kobo directly. Worth it for me, but probably not for everyone. Overall, a great ereader, and for my purposes it's the best on the market. I hope future additions make some improvements and bring down the cost. Also, considering it runs on an android system, it's feasible they could put a Kindle app on there, which would eliminate the whole limited eco-system problem. Then it really would be the perfect ereader.

Big which is nice, Amazon if your listening
Big which is nice, Amazon if your listening... needs to make something similar with perhaps higher quality control, but this is where the romance ends, laggy, slow uneven backlighting and night mode is useless on higher settings, compared to the kindle lineup this thing doesn't get nearly as dark at the lowest or nearly as bright at the highest of settings

A fantastic item, just avoid "Triplenet Pricing INC"
A fantastic item, layout and organization, especially in conjunction with Cailbre is much superior to Kindle. Night-time mode is pretty nice too. The extra size opens up reading to fixed layout items like PDFs that are unpleasant on the Kindle. The CBZ support is pretty neat too. Just avoid "Triplenet Pricing INC" if you want a new one as they ship used/broken items as new (and make you pay shipping on the return). As things stand now, I'd buy it from Rakuten directly and give Amazon a pass on this one.

A great opportunity lost to terrible performance
I'll start the post by saying that this ereader by far has more capabilities than others I've tried thus far. I knew right away that a kindle would be no good because: 1. They don't make any versions larger than 6" 2. There's no way to read articles on the kindle like what's available on the Kobo through Pocket. Bearing those in mind, there's just not enough good things about the actual performance of the device to make me give anything other than a lukewarm response. While at first the kobo was able to handle all my articles and boom downloads quite well, the last couple of days has seen me struggling to load new articles or open downloaded books. I even had an hour where the kobo froze up and continually started shutting down and turning back on. That's not something I can overlook when I've just paid over $200 for this device. Secondly, I've had trouble refreshing the articles to see my new downloads- even though they were added to my account 30 minutes ago. Finally, the layout is atrocious. It'd be really nice to have a way of seeing my articles on the homepage (since that's what I mostly read anyways) or having am icon for the internet to use (rather than hitting settings>beta>internet>start. With these things in mind, while it certainly does what no other ereader was able to deliver (for under $600 that is) I simply cannot recommend it. Unless you are prepared for constant glitches and an unintuitive home experience, I'd highly suggest avoiding this device.

Best reader
I got this because I need it to replace my Kindle Paperwhite that become too old. The Kobo is brilliant, has a larger screen, almost double in size, it's also lighter the my Paperwhite and effectively reading on it is a pleasure. Also has illumination but has some night light, you can adjust the colour of the light which is brilliant if you read in dark and you don't like white light. For books Kobo has it's own store, as today I didn't get any because I tend to read "classics", the ones that are dead and their work is in public domain. Loading books is very easy, just connect the Kobo to the computer and will appear as a "flash drive" drag and drop the books and is done. I also use Calibre that works automatically with the e-reader.

Der perfekte eReader! Endlich!
