Rapala Salt Angler's Heavy Duty Split Ring Pliers

These split ring pliers are perfect for heavy duty saltwater tackle. I use them to open Owner Ultra Split Rings to install 4X and 3X replacement hooks and they work flawlessly. I tried other brands of pliers that would not open the rings wide enough for HD hooks before purchasing these. With the other brands I just ended up having to use an additional punch to get the rings open wide enough and stabbed myself multiple times doing so. Not the case with these. Highly recommended for replacing treble hooks on your Rapala X Rap Magnums and other plugs with VMC inline singles!

After trying a couple different brands I found this pair worked the best for me. I like the size and the handles. It opened the #10 Ultra split rings easily. I tried them on a smaller size split ring and they worked fine. The pliers didn't distort the ring at all after sliding a large hook into it.

I bought these pliers so that I could more easily swap out my treble hooks with inline single hooks. The replacement hooks I use are mostly 4/0 and 5/0 saltwater hooks. The pliers are able to open the split rings wide enough to get the hook eyes onto the ring. Then I use a pair of long needle nose pliers to work the hook fully onto the split ring. My only complaint after a year of using these pliers is that the jaws have twisted a bit and no longer line up one exactly over the other. The pivot screw allows for minimal tightening, but the jaws seem to loosen up quickly. Not the end of the world. They still work, but not as well as they did when they were new.

These are exactly what I needed to replace trebles on lures with 3/0 single hooks. I have another pair of Shimano which are smaller pliers they work well with smaller split rings but not with the larger. These work perfect for the larger sized split rings.

They really open the split ring for changing hooks easily

If you only occasionally need to swap heavy split rings on lures and don't want to spend the $ on fancier ones (like myself) this will get the job done.... I did have to fight with ones over 200lb a bit but it got the job done

These are great pliers. Compare to my Shimano pliers that tend to over-stretch the O-ring, these pliers dont really do that. Highly recommend them!

This feels good quality , but it’s definitely heavy duty. Can struggle to use on small split rings.
