LinkTap D1 2-Zone Sprinkler Timer (Req. Gateway), Fault Detection & Alerts

We are slowly automating the watering of our garden which while not huge is too big for WiFi based remote valves to work. I looked at installing remote hard-wired valves but the cost of the multi-core cable alone was going to be horrendous. High end systems multiplexing control onto single cables are also way too expensive. So I needed another solution. These valves use Zigbee (a wireless system a bit like WiFi) and they genuinely do work at up 100m as claimed so long as you site the base unit sensibly, I've put ours at the top of the roof (inside). The hardware us well made, they are easy to set up using the app and they seem to work well. The near real-time feedback of water flow is very useful as you can see immediately if something is amiss. The app for programming them works fine although it is not great to use. They have clearly spent the money on the hardware, not the software! Don't get me wrong: everything is there and it does the job, it is just a bit clunky. So more expensive than WiFi valves, and probably overkill for a small garden or just a few pots. But if you have something larger this kit will do the job for £100s of pounds (assuming several valves) rather than the £1000s or even £10,000s it would require for a traditional "central controller plus multi-core cable to remote valves" solution.

A few months back I looked at different water garden controllers and while there are some products that have additional features they also cost twice the price, so the linktap ticked all my boxes. So much so that I have bought a second unit as I am laying a new lawn and wanted to control a couple of oscillating sprinklers as I am not prepared to manually water the lawn several times a day until the seeds starts to grow. The user interface takes a bit of time to find your way round the menu, I have seen better but functionally does all I want. The wether feature is a bit of a hit or miss as it uses Apple weather data and this is not always accurate but I don’t think there is much time can do about that. It seems that you get a better resultant if you set the rain period to 72 hours as sometimes Apple take time to update the weather report. It would be nice if there was the possibility of connecting a moisture sensor, and better still one of these off the shelf rain / weather sensors. I am aware this is all possible if one had the time to find ways of interfacing third party equipment but this is no simple task.

Just bought my second D1. Quick and easy set-up, up there with Apple and Google products (if not better). Very well made, amazingly rich-featured app and with two killer features: 1) Robust comms link from gateway to controllers. I have the gateway at one end of a long house and the controllers in a greenhouse beyond the far end with a wifi network buzzing in-between but comms are totally robust. 2) The watering schedule durations can be factored by a +-% if the temperature goes over a user-defined max or below a user-defined min. This helps avoid under or over watering from a fixed schedule, especially while away. Can also set to pause watering if rain is forecast for the area. Love the bubbling sound of the watering alerts!

Overall a very good piece of kit but some small gremlins with the software which is being ironed out.

had the single output one for 4 years so was a no brainer to switch to the double when i needed to. its pretty heavy but simple to use. not sure how the flow meter is doing as appears to not always work but that might be how i have the irregation set up

Does. the job really well, with notifications about what is or is not happening e.g. water tap has been switched off by accident etc. Easy to set up, and it just works!

En 2022 compramos un LinkTap G2S tras leer muchas opiniones y comparar características y gracias a su buen resultado, este 2025 hemos incorporado un LinkTap D1 a la familia. Para nosotros, la clave es toda la gestión mediante su app, que facilita el no tener que programar físicamente el dispositivo. Aunque la app no tiene el mejor de los diseños, es funcional y te haces a ella rápido. En 3 años no nos ha dado prácticamente ningún tipo de problema, aunque en invierno para evitar problemas con las heladas, siempre lo desconectamos y guardamos durante unos meses. La duración de las pilas es también muy alta y te permite despreocuparte durante bastante tiempo. Por poner un pero, al tener doble zona de control, el tamaño físico es algo más grande y pesado de lo que nos gustaría y el precio no es económico.

Solide Hardware, sehr gute App - das Teil funktioniert einwandfrei. Kleiner Tipp: Sollte es nicht dicht sein ist es wahrscheinlich nicht der LinkTap, sondern der Wasserhahn. Musste ich mühsam lernen und die Dichtung im frostsicheren Aussenhahn wechseln.

Acheté l'an dernier en complément d'un premier modèle (à une seule sortie, acheté deux ans auparavant) pour compléter mon système d'arrosage automatique avec un second point de départ d'eau. Installation facile, après hivernage (pensez à enlever les piles) réinstallation très rapide et robuste. L'appli dédié est claire facile d'utilisation et très complète. Avec la canicule majeure de cet été : défaut d'un bouton non fonctionnel, la commande à distance fonctionnait toujours ce qui a permis d'arroser la nuit pour les plantes les plus sensibles. SAV contacté, très réactif et très professionnel pour la solution apportée. Je recommande sans hésiter l'achat des produits Linktap.

Questa è una recensione a distanza ormai 3 e più anni di utilizzo. Ho due device LinkTap uno singolo ed uno doppio, entrambi funzionano perfettamente, ma il motivo delle 5 stelle è principalmente dovuto all’assistenza. Ho avuto modo di scrivere loro in un paio di occasioni, per altro sempre la domenica. In un caso ho voluto contattarli per aiuto alla configurazione, nel secondo caso invece li ho contattati perché uno dei miei device device ha iniziato a non rispondere in modo corretto. Il motivo poi si è trovato in un’interferenza (ho infatti avuto problemi anche con altri dispositivi radio) hanno verificato tutto da remoto ed hanno diagnosticato il problema dandomi anche una dettagliata spiegazione per risolverlo. Jack dell’assistenza è davvero sempre disponibile!

Some others have mentioned the app is a bit odd, but technically speaking it's excellent. The app takes a little exploring and a bit of getting used to, but I'll take a highly capable app that might not be instantly obvious over a hot UI mess any day. The only tricky thing I've run into is adjusting schedule phase. Just delete and re-add an interval schedule with a different start date. It seems to obey the schedule implied by the start date and interval even across pauses lasting 24h or more. This is good since it allows specifying staggering that stays in effect across a pause. The ports are plastic but it seems reasonably strong. I do try to provide some strain relief in case a hose is tripped over, but same goes for any device like this. The ports don't leak so far. Despite the instructions saying not to use NiMH, I'm using eneloop AA 1.2V and of course the indicated battery percent starts at ~67-72 %, and I might run into refusal to water due to low % sooner than I would with alkaline, but it works great for now. Honestly I think they should just update their SW to let you specify that you're using NiMH. Battery drain rate so far seems consistent with this working fine for quite a while. As others have mentioned, these stop the flow quickly; in my setup it works fine. The wireless range seems about typical for ZigBee, which is maybe a bit better than wifi. It deals fine with 30% signal. I appreciate the fall detection and whatnot being optional, and how it allows adjusting the valve pulse duration should that become necessary later on. My comments are the app are based on the android app. No idea re. any iOS app.
