They appear to be steel. They are definitely not aluminum.

How much weight can these shelf clips support?

I used them as replacements at my school for our industrial steal bookcases. I have textbooks on them and they have held up well.

The tabs themselves are 1/4" wide

Good purchase

I'm very pleased with the fit, and build quality of these clips. They fit my rails with ease. The clips were a bit tight when I tried to move them from slot to slot but I'll probably appreciate this over time since it suggests that they don't get lose easily. I'd buy these clips again.

Universal clips fits most standard cabinets

Ordered 3 cabinets with intention to add more shelves to plain old standard metal storage cabinets that we also ordered on Amazon. Ordered these clips as they appeared pretty universal and would work for our need to add additional shelving to the cabinet. We had to pry them open a bit more so they would work for us, otherwise the clip would just fall out to the bottom of the cabinet. We made it work, so were glad we found a solution. It's just one of those types of items that is hard to measure and you don't really know till it arrives, in my opinion.
