As background, let me mention that I've been using a variety of cheap and inexpensive ceramic shaving bowls I’ve obtained from thrift stores and garage sales. I’ve advocated getting these cheaper bowls for quite some time. However, after bringing home a few of my 99 cent ceramic prizes, oftentimes a chip or crack is discovered. This means it needs to be disposed of or you run the risk of those cracks/chips developing unwanted bacteria growth. In the end, I realized that, I needed to invest in a quality made shaving bowl. A shaving bowl that would be the perfect fit for my shaving den, give me a lifetime of great lathers, and made from a long-lasting and durable material that won't chip or crack. I found that bowl with The Chairman. The Chairman is made from Stainless Steel and is bead blasted to give it a rustic and rugged look. However, this bead blasting (or sandblasting, if you will) gives the surface a very tactile feel. When you first handle the bowl, you’ll definitely notice this “adhesion” quality. The bowl feels incredibly secure in the hand despite the slickness of soap or cream used. Additionally, I'm thinking (just a guess on my part) that the bead blasting of the inner bowl surface causes a very microscopic "'rough" surface that aids and enhances whipping up a lather. At least, this is my theory. Because the bowl has that ever so slight roughness, the lather just generates in heaps due to the surface’s microscopic resistance. Now, I cannot say that this is entirely the fact. It’s just my theory based on my personal use and observation. At first you may think the bowl is a bit small. However, after several uses, you’ll find it to be the perfect size. It’s not overly large, nor is it too small. It’s just right. After experimenting and using many, many second hand ceramic bowls in all kinds of sizes, I’ve found that I tend to favor the ones that are more diminutive and naturally fit into the hand. The Chairman fits into the hand perfectly. With ceramic bowls, there's always the risk of having it slip out of your hand and shattering on the floor (also, again, due to being too large to handle). And that’s the last thing you want when you’re standing at the sink dressed only in a towel or robe prepping for a shave (especially if you forgot to put on your slippers). Stainless steel will not break or shatter if it slips out of your hand. But again, this bowl won’t slip. The Chairman Luxury Shaving Bowl from Vikings Blade is VERY well made! It’s the perfect size, has a nice weight and heft, fits the hand perfectly and securely, and just knocks it out of the park for whipping up a lather! And because it’s made from stainless steel, it’ll last a lifetime! Needless to say, this bowl is impressive. Any wet shaver would absolutely love receiving this as a gift. One other point about the bowl’s design. The lip of the bowl helps to keep the lather from overflowing. But, as I’ve said, this bowl generates heaps of lather. So, you'll need to adjust the amount of soap or cream you use. The inside of the bowl also has the Vikings Blade logo and product name beautifully engraved in the bottom. After 50 years of use, my guess is, you’ll still be able to read it. I knew that, eventually, I needed to cast aside the cheap ceramic bowls and invest in a well made, high quality, stainless steel shaving bowl that will last and last. The Chairman is perfect and the only shaving bowl I’ll ever need. I’m glad I waited, but now, you don’t have to wait! Get your own Chairman shaving bowl. You'll get many years of service from it and, most definitely, your heirs will be fighting over who gets grandpa’s shaving bowl.

This cup is perfect size and the texture really helps work up that great thick lather you want, nice weight but not too heavy. I highly recommend if you like to take time and enjoy your shave. 10 outta 10!!!

I wanted to surprise my husband with an old school type shaving system. I honestly hoped he would like it and wouldn’t be too scared to try it. ( I wasn’t too sure though). He opened it for Christmas and was pretty excited about the whole idea. I was sure to mention to him that he could NOT shave with this like he normally would with his disposable razors. I made sure he knew about the instructions to read. It took him a couple days before he actually tried it. He thought it wouldn’t be his regular “go to”, but it is! Cool looking products, quality seeming. It is still new and it hasn’t been dropped, so not sure about how well it holds up in that department. It sure looks and feels sturdy though. The brush, bowl, stand, razor, shaving cream, and pre shave oil are all very excellent. Leaves very smooth and soft skin and smells nice, too! Shave cream has a light scent and not over powering and the oil doesn’t seem to have a scent. He hasn’t traveled with it, but the razor came in a handy dandy box to use, so I don’t see why it would be problematic. The Chieftain is the razor and it is about and inch and a half shorter than the disposable he was using but it isn’t a problem. (I was a little worried because he has big hands.) He hasn’t mentioned anything being hard to hold or maneuver and trust me, he would if it was an issue. 😁 I would recommend these products. Plus, the name is awesome.. I mean.. Vikings Blade. Come on.

Going by the ratings for this and description, this shave bowl was always going to be a worthwhile purchase. I was able to lather up my shaving soap and was able to get a decent shave out of it. but i do think as though i should have sprung for the 3.5" version instead of the 3" as i think the 3" is a bit on the small side and i feel as though the soap is better able to lather up easier and faster using the 3.5" version, but it is just my personal opinion. I am still in the process of learning how to use a single-edged razor, i will see if i must return the 3" version and get the 3.5" instead.

I bought this bowl when I recently switched from a cartridge to a double-edge razor and began to use a badger brush and shaving soap. I bought the large model, and was willing to spend a bit more for this brand and size because I'll likely use this for another 40 years or so. I've now been using it for a month. It's attractive, sturdy, and easy to handle in a wet hand. The soap lathers up quickly using the badger brush (I have enough lather within 30 seconds or so for three passes) and the bowl is wide enough that I can set my badger brush with its heavy handle in the bowl, and let it rest on the sink as I shave, without the bowl tipping over. This has become a cherished part of my morning routine over the past four months. I don't soak my brush in the bowl. I fill up the sink with a 3-4 inches of hot water before showering and let the brush and razor sit in there while I shower. I also don't just drop a puck of soap in here. I use a cheese grater on a puck of shaving soap and a bar of Dove in a 50/50 mix and then compact the shavings into the bowl. I don't need it to retain heat because I pat my face with a hot, wet washcloth between passes. Nevertheless, the lather on the brush is warm when I apply it to my face, the bowl having soaked in the hot water while I'm in the shower. I was looking for a durable bowl, attractive, easy to hold, stable when I put my brush in it, with a surface that would facilitate quickly whipping the soap into a lather. And that's what I got. I assume I'll have this thing for the rest of my life. It's functional, elegant and masculine. Trifecta.

Great little bowl that fits shaving soap pucks pretty well. It's thick, seems VERY study, and hasn't rusted yet. The only thing I didn't expect was the roughness of the bottom of the bowl. I put something under it b/c I didn't want to scratch the bathroom counter. Otherwise, I love it!

I thought a bowl is a bowl is a bowl when it comes to shaving and making a lather. I was wrong! This is a complete game changer. There’s a slight texture to the bowl that allows more agitation to the lather which means faster thicker lather. I soak the bowl in hot water for some time to get it hot and it stays warm for the entirety of my shave. Allows for a warm lather that helps the shaving processes. This one is perfect for me! Know it’s gonna last my entire life too!
