Olympus E-PL5 Interchangeable Lens Digital Camera with 14-42mm Lens (White)

Camera is defective. Screen is upside down and will not rotate with position of the camera. Also, this is an Olympus Pen E-PL5. The camera came in a box labeled for the E-PL8 and with the E-PL8 owners manual. Real helpful..

I am no professional photographer. I mainly purchased this camera as a starting point for more serious picture taking and after reading the very few reviews out there on it, I had to have the E-PL5. It has everything I was looking for in the right size package and for the right cost. Only a couple things lacked in this camera (viewfinder, splash proof capabilities, a couple other small things), however, those things would have cost several hundred more bucks so it's okay by me that they aren't included. I am in love with this camera. It takes extremely high quality photos, even more so than my mothers D-SLR and my roommate's Sony NE-X. I did, however, have a rocky beginning. It might be because I needed to learn more about the shooting modes or it could the menu is somewhat difficult to figure out even for a tech savvy person (there are still things I'm finding that I can do hidden in the trenches of the menu sea). But, at first, I thought about returning the thing. Every picture I took indoors came out with a red tint to it and slightly blurry. I couldn't take any pictures inside that I liked and to have a camera in college, I definitely need something that takes good indoor pictures of moving subjects. I've had it for over a month now and have mostly learned the correct shooting modes for the correct environment. AUTO mode may be the only mode on the camera that I'm not a fan of. So if you aren't somewhat serious about photography and don't enjoy learning the modes to make a photo one of a kind, then I wouldn't recommend this camera. Overall, it's flat out awesome. The art scenes, the quality, the video, the look, size, cost, freedom, everything about this camera makes it the best purchase I've made.

If I drop this camera in a river I will immediately replace it. I'm extremely impressed with the value I've gotten out of it. I bought this around the time I got married. It has been with us through our honeymoon and the first 6 months of our child's life, though our vacations, camping trips, or whatever adventure we get into. The size/weight makes it a no-brainer to carry around, so we usually have it when we want to capture a memory. The photos we have printed at the local photo lab turn out flawless. I've use heavier SLRs from the film age through digital. I decided I wanted to try micro 4/3 to see what the results of the digital-first approach to camera manufacturing. I'm certainly impressed with the results. The pictures turn out great, and I'm sure if I were to develop my skill as a photographer the camera would have no problem keeping up. I mostly use the 25mm prime lens from Olympus. Occasionally I'll have problems getting the camera to focus on the object I want, but using the touch screen is intuitive, and manually setting the focus points provides options for more advanced users. I think this camera is great for a wide range of skill levels and uses. It could possibly be the perfect all-around camera.

I had this camera on my watch list for a long time. Once it came down to under $400, I grabbed it. Now, it's under $350 So there's no excuse! GET IT! I love it! It's my first non-Canon camera. I have been with Canon since film, and thought I would try the new micro 4/3 cameras. I love it! We use this now when we go to park, beach, outings, it is perfect! I will save up for better lens, spend the money on the lenses! Got the white one Makes me look different than everyone else shooting in the garden/parks. Great photos easy focus, almost instant love the touch screen, can focus, shoot, adjust from that I know, fancy dancy stuffs, who needs them? I didn't think I would like it, but I do! I will do side-by-side tests/comparisons with my good Canon one day, and will post, or update, this review. I like that it's so small. I've been shooting with a dslr for more then 3 years now upgrading bodies and lenses numerous times over to achieve "pro like" photos. After shooting with the m4/3 camera its made me a believer and I have sold all of my dslr gear. Pros: -lenses are cheap compared to those of a dslr. also lenses are built with great glass. -compact size and weight of this camera allows you to take pictures in a more creative and less conspicuous way. -camera has option to control off camera flashes which is a feature of more expensive dslrs also a feature not highlighted. -5 stops of bracketing! for HDR photos. -in camera image stabilization, which is great when shooting with long range prime lenses in low light conditions. -great noise performance as good as or better then d7000, i can shoot iso 6400 with limited noise in jpeg. Cons: -no big apature zoom lenses yet. -no built in flash but does come with pocket size flash attachment.
