Helps for quick can-H & can-L diagnosis

I'm using this an an instructional tool for my grandson's education in OBD workings. Should have bought this decades ago. It extends the OBD port for easy access, provides pinout labels, LEDs for each pin and a port in the end for a OBD reader if needed.

I just ordered a 4 channel automotive oscilloscope and haven't tested this breakout box yet other than to confirm the pass- through works with my bi- directional scanner, specifically the scanner is an XTOOL D8S. The passthrough works fine with my D8S. The power and ground lights lit up no problem, but even on the cloudy day I tested the box, none of the leds for CAN BUS pins from the dlc lit brightly enough to see any activity at all when they should have been lit. I don't mean that they were just dim, I mean they didn't light at all. So the can hi and can low lights are absolutely worthless. CAN BUS is very fast switched signals and you should not expect this "BOB" or breakout box to be of much use on it's own, even though I hope to get a stable enough signal from this BOB to measure from the banana terminals using a $700 purpose built automotive-focused scope. You can get a decent 40 to 50mhz scope from ZOYI for under $100 on Amazon, so don't lose hope if that's what you want to try. You don't necessarily need to spend a lot of money, but you'll definitely need good schematics for your car in addition to a steady hand and a cautious work flow. Jump the wrong pins to ground/current/voltage and you'll fry multiple modules. This is no joke. Please be careful. I plan to use 4mm banana connectors converted to male BNC probes to jump the DLC connector pins from this BOB to the scope. If you are not similarly equipped, just know you will get nothing from these CAN BUS lights alone. That being said, for the price , this BOB seems good enough to simply provide you a good way to connect MUCH more expensive tools using cheap banana adapters, whether that's a $100 ZOYI or a $10000 premium scope. The experts will warn you that cheaper BOBs might effect your measurements by virtue of the noise and instability they impart on your measurements. With the Micsig scope I just bought I don't care about the lights, but for anyone who doesn't have a $700+ miracle of engineering like the Micdig SATO1004, you might be upset to find that the can hi and can lo lights do nothing informative on their own. I am pleased that the other lights on this BOB can easily confirm your power and body/ chassis grounds, so for $25 nothing to be upset about. More expensive BOBs from AES wave or Power Probe are not only more informative, they are likely also much safer. Anything tapping into the DLC port carries the risk of causing damage to basically everything in the car, a $25 BOB sounds great but if it causes problems, immediately discontinue use.

Very useful for troubleshooting CANBUS error with connection issues.
