Was this a gamble? Yes. Did It work? Also Yes.
Let’s be real. If you’re dealing with rust this bad, you’re probably in for some frustration. A full repair usually means cutting out metal and welding in a new piece, which isn’t exactly a casual weekend project. Enter these Bondo Self-Adhesive Body Patches. Without them, my repair simply would not have been possible.Stronger Than You Think (With the Right Filler)If you’re worried about durability, don’t be. When paired with a high-strength filler, this patch doesn’t just “hold up.” It reinforces the repair to the point where it’s as strong, if not stronger, than sheet metal. The patch gave me a structure to work with so I could push filler deep into the area, making the final result solid. If you’re using the right products, this isn’t just a temporary fix. It’s a legit repair.Adhesion Could Be Stickier, But It WorksThe patches do have an adhesive backing, but I wish it had a bit more grip. Something a little gooier would have made placement easier. If your surface is less than ideal, and mine was far from perfect, you can still make it work, but you’ll have to finesse it. One trick is weaving multiple patches together to reinforce the structure before adding filler. Will This Work for Your Repair? My rust spot was massive, probably pushing the limit of what this product was meant for. Almost too big, but not quite. Ideally, you catch rust sooner than I did, but even for larger areas, layering multiple patches can absolutely work. That said, placement matters. If your rust is in an area that’s impossible to place a patch on properly, you might have a problem. But since these are super cheap, it’s worth buying some just to see if they’ll work for your repair. Worst case, you’re out a few bucks. Best case, you avoid welding and a massive repair bill.Bondo Compatibility is PerfectThe Bondo stuck to this like a dream. I was able to layer it on smoothly and even push it deep into the problem area for extra strength. Without these patches, there would have been no way to make this work.Final Tips & Thoughts• Reinforce by weaving patches together. This helps create a stronger structure.• Test fit first. Since the adhesive isn’t crazy strong, positioning is key.• Use a high-strength filler. Regular filler alone won’t be enough. (I reviewed the one I used, so check my profile if you need recommendations.)For small-to-medium rust repairs, this is a game-changer. For bigger spots, you’ll have to get creative, but with patience, it can work. If I managed to pull this off with zero experience, trust me, you can too.

A Must Have for Rust Repair
Exactly as advertised. Great help with fiberglass repairs due to self adhesive. Recommend.

Works great but adhesion could be better
So I had to rebuild the wheel well on my 02 Silverado due to rust. The rust ate through both the seam of the inner wheel housing and the outer bed panel where they come together and are welded. This is a common problem. If enough of the seam can be salvaged and treated with rust converter, you can use these patches/mesh to rebuild the seam and repair the entire damaged area. I used the old structure as a scaffold to hold the patch/mesh after I used a straight edge like a right angle ruler to recreate the seam. It worked great. Then I used the vertical flange of the new mesh to stick to the inner vertical wall of the wheel well until I was able to use fiber glass to hold it in and start the reconstruction process between the fiber glass and filler: fiberglass for the primary filler and structure rebuild and filler for 1/4" or less resurfacing for painting. I created a how to do video on youtube. The job came out great and saved me from having to purchase GM only supplied bed panels priced at $1200 each and wheel wells at $400 each. The only complaint I have is that the patches are not sticky enough to hold on to anything. So it was a waste of time to add this feature. The sticky side should stick to most anything to add value.

Great product for filling a large rust hole
Used to fix a rust hole in my friends rear quarter panel of his Subaru Legacy; which has a common problem of forming rust just above the wheel well. The mesh product is tacky and sticks easily to bare metal; cutting was easy with tin snips. Make sure to knock down the metal surrounding the hole with a hammer. This allows the mesh to lay level with the rest of the body and will save alot of time with bondo and sanding. The mesh holds on to the filler perfectly and I had no issues with sanding down to a smooth serface. I didn't have any issues with exposing the mesh with over sanding. Primer/Paint and 6 months later there is no issues to speak of. The spot looks like factory and it was easy to mold the mesh piece along with the body line.I highly reccomend this product for patching a large hole. Just make sure to take your time with the repair and don't rush any of the steps needed for automotive body repair.

perfect
Perfect for my application needs & plenty of adhesive for sticking to the hole repair.

Workable
I used these but found the adhesive is pretty much a joke. When they were held or pushed in place and then body putty was applied they were wonderful. Once the putty dried they stayed in place without question. Even with bare metal and preforming the mesh it didn't hold very good. Overall its work the money if you need to cover a larger hole, and for durability it has been stable. The size is a bit small for me, but I am trying to cover gaps of 1/2 inch to 1 inch and 8 inches long. Its farily simply to use - grind to bare metal, clean, apply - but it just lacks adheasion without extra help.

This worked REALLY well for my project!
I bought this self adhesive body patch to build my custom Ghostbusters Proton Pack.I heavily modified the pack.I basically cut the main part of the body in half, removing a 2" wide chunk of material across the whole thing. When I was done hacking it up, there was a huge gaping hole. There wasn't any structural integrity.I used this material to back up the U-POL 7061 flexible body filler that I used.(The body of this pack is a flexible material like a plastic car bumper). This patch material was easy to cut and easy to shape. As you can see I had a lot of curves and odd shapes to fill. This patch material did an excellent job of keeping shape and staying put while I applied the filler.I am very happy. Just look at the end results in the pics.I could not have done this project without this self adhesive body patch.Good stuff!

smart way to fill large holes
For a metal repair of a large hole this works very well. The mesh is all metal and easily cut with regular scissors and moldable by hand. There is a sticky side which is somewhat adhesive. It will hold its own weight since these patches are not heavy but if the patch is suspended it may not hold depending on the surface. These patches overlap very well for larger holes.Once applied these are strong and if blended with metal-filled bondo then its very strong.I used a sharpie marker to trace a contour and that worked well. You can even use this to make curved shapes as a base for filler. These work well as intended. The adhesive is only there to temporarily hold it in place for the bondo filler.Just like fiberglass mat, its not meant to be used on its own.

Adhesive is bad
Great idea, adhesive is rubbish so you need to use other ways to fasten it. Not worth the cost.
User
Reasonably easy to use.
Easy to cut and relatively simple to shape to fit. Very stiff screen. Holds bonds well. Cuts easily with a scissors.
User
Really challenging
It is really fun but challenging! It is good made!

Zwecksentfremded aber funktoniert.
Flexibel und leicht anzuwenden, da es eine selbstklebende Stelle hat. Ich hab das Stück verwendet um Insekten zu hindern, dass sie das innere vom Fenster weiterknabbern.
