Tin on the wire wasn't necessary. Twisting the wire tightly would have worked fine.
Works great. Had to tin the wires to make the wires insert into the switch easier. The wire kept bending while trying to insert them in the sides of switch. Putting tin on the wire made it more rigid and simplified insertion. The switch was more pricey than others, but the black nickle matched my fan and it was worth the extra for me.

Works, with caveats
This fixed my fan switch perfectly. The color of this chain and the barrel was unfortunately not like my fan. However! I simply disassembled the switch carefully, studied how it worked inside so that I could put it back together again correctly, and I swapped out the chain and barrel nut for the one my fan had. Perfect match and it now works too! So! When in doubt about the color match; if you're chain isn't broken and the barrel nut is fine too but your switch isn't working; just get this switch in one of the cheaper generic color variations and swap out the chain and barrel nut and you'll be happy too!

Perfect replacement switch
This was an exact replacement for the broken switch in my Hunter ceiling fan. Easy to release the wires from the old switch and insert them into this one. All the slots are numbered. A no-brainer :-)

Works as it should
I gave this 4 stars.. I could not order black so that was my first issue. The beaded pull chain is not as sturdy or fat as my old ones. So that was my 1 star off. Everything else was spot on! Perfect fit, Properly coded or marked. So four stars for that!!
