The instructions with this says to charge it for 16 hrs. before 1st use then it says to charge it for 1 1/2 hrs before 1st use which is it please?

I just started to use it and keep it plugged in between trims. Always had plenty of battery for every haircut.

Can be used without the limit combs?

No, it'll cut your scalp without the clear comb. It can be turned down very low, though. I think 2mm is lowest, and that's pretty close. Close enough that I have a mole that still got cut up even with the comb on.
