I’m really happy with my Echo Dot! The sound is surprisingly good for such a small speaker, and Alexa responds quickly and clearly. I love being able to ask for the weather, set timers and reminders, play music, and get answers without having to pick up my phone. Setup gave me a little trouble at first, but once I got it connected to Wi-Fi, everything worked perfectly. The Alexa app makes it easy to customize and add features, too. I I bought the Amazon Echo Dot in 2023 and I’ve been using it ever since, mainly in my bedroom. The sound quality is really good for its size. It has a clear, vibrant sound that works perfectly in a closed space like a bedroom. It fills the room nicely and is great for music, alarms, and just using Alexa throughout the day. In my bedroom specifically, the volume is just right for me, not too loud and not too low, just comfortable for everyday listening. I’ve noticed that in more open areas, the sound does feel a bit lower, but that’s expected since it’s a small speaker designed for smaller spaces. In the room where I use it most, it performs really well. The connection is also very reliable. It connects to Wi-Fi without any issues, and I’ve also been able to pair it with my phone via Bluetooth when I want to play things like YouTube videos, which works smoothly. One of the biggest things I appreciate is how durable it is. I have a one-year-old at home who has dropped it multiple times more than I can count and it still works perfectly fine. Even though it looks a bit worn from daily use, it hasn’t affected its performance at all. Overall, I think it’s definitely worth the money. It’s simple, reliable, and has held up really well over time. It does exactly what I need it to do in my bedroom, and I’m genuinely impressed by how durable it has been despite everything it’s been through.

I have no idea how amazon made such a basic device so ridiculously difficult to set up. I ordered one of these a few days ago, spent a few hours trying to set it up, consulted the internet, and nothing really worked. It continually got stuck at the "searching for wifi" step and being unsuccessful in finding *any* networks. I tried manually connecting it, using a mobile hotspot, restarting my router, etc etc etc. It could not find ANY signal at all. I called customer support, did a hard reset, tried some things, and still nothing. The lady recommended I return the device and order a new one, so I got a refund, returned the first unit, and ordered a new one. I was conflicted whether I should order this same model again or try a completely different smart speaker. Ultimately I decided to give it one more shot and I received the new unit today. Plugged it in, had guarded hopes. Again, same issue that it couldn't find a network to connect to. So I shut off Bluetooth and tried manual connection again. This time, a list of networks came up! ... but not my network. So I "added" my network, and it would glitch and start over. I tried half a dozen times to add my network, and it still wouldn't show up or connect. I tried another hard reset for the device, and repeated adding my network again to no avail. Back to consulting the internet! I hard reset the device, and followed a guide I found on Reddit. Still, it didn't work with my wifi network, so I had the idea to download the alexa app on my tablet and use my phone hotspot instead of my wifi. I read something that if you leave the app page for ANY reason during setup (even just the device falling asleep for a second or two), the app will glitch and connection with fail. So I hard reset the device again, added device, selected the echo dot, disconnected my tablet's bluetooth, selected manual connection in the app, then connected to the Amazon "wifi" network, let it search for wifi, came up with a list that didn't include mine, and so I manually added my hotspot network's name and password. It did it's little loading thing, and sent me back to the searching for wifi page. The list of networks came up again and alas, it happened! My hotspot appeared on the network page! I clicked it, feeling as though Alexa were playing tricks on me but after all my failed attempts, it finally connected! .... to my hotspot, but at least there was a shred of hope somewhere in the universe that this tiny, frustrating device had some potential, if only I could just add my personal wifi network instead! So all I had to do was spend another hour repeatedly fiddling with the app trying to add a new network so I could move it off of my hotspot to my wifi. I followed the same steps that worked for the hotspot connection (minus the hard reset) and after the third or fourth attempt, it finally connected.... And then I had to unplug it to move it to it's permanent location 10 feet away from my router- I did all this at the same outlet my router is plugged into because it was struggling so much. I considered just leaving if there for eternity because I didn't want to risk it reseting and having to deal with all the connection issues again. You have no idea the relief I felt when I plugged it into its permanent outlet and it automatically reconnected. If I had to mess with the setup process from scratch again, I probably would've just returned it again. I don't understand how this is a 5th generation device with such a flawed and frankly crappy set up process. I had to go digging through my router settings, app settings, restarted/reset the device multiple times, rebooted my router, consulted customer support, poked around multiple online forums, and spent hours trying to get this cursed little orb functioning. That said, it is now working. We'll see how it holds up over the next few weeks. If it had so much trouble finding my wifi in the first place, I'm curious to see how it'll hold up and if it will stay connected or continue posing issues. All I know is when I move out and have to set it up again in a few years.... lord help me.

When I took it out of the box, the first thing I noticed was how compact it is. The build feels solid, and the fabric finish gives it a clean look that fits easily in a bedroom or office. After using it for a while, it’s been reliable for reminders, quick questions, and controlling lights. Everything has worked consistently, and I haven’t had connection problems. Overall, it’s a small device that performs steadily and feels well‑built.

Alexa Echo Speakers Multi-room Music issues I found a solution to not being able to get more than one speaker to work at a time, paired, or set up a “Multi-Room Music” in the Alexa app. This solution also fixed my inability to get Apple enabled devices connected into HomeKit, or even Google Nest Hubs to set up, period. Quick answer: Deselect “Enable Wireless Isolation” when activating your 2.4 Wi-Fi broadcast on your router. I also took all speakers off guest wifi. But I’ll try to put them back to see if that is necessary now. Back story: Months of issues with HomeKit, (only weeks with Echo Multi-Room Music), I gave up trying and decided to try Alexa and Google to replace my Apple smart home efforts. I spent way too much time. After the fix, I’ll live a blended tech life. I’ll give a quick answer, followed by my backstory: Last week I was at my wits end in utter frustration over three major roadblocks. I acquiesced and decided to try Alexa because I couldn’t get almost any of my Apple HomeKit enabled devices into HomeKit, except for new Apple products. I knew it had to be something small I was missing. Alexa was sooooo easy and quick to connect to everything, before I figured out the fix. (I dislike the echo show advertising, their echo speakers are better.) While they seemed a breeze to connect everything, for some reason I couldn’t get more than one echo speaker to work at a time. I was continually blocked from setting up Multi-Room Music or even connect a pair to play together. Hundreds of tries. I deleted, reset, rebooted, spent over 4 hours with Comcast yesterday (thankfully a Boston native who did not put me on hold every minute like certain countries) getting my internet working again. I had rebooted my modem and router so many times, my computer got molasses slow and I feared I went too far In interest I also decided to try a few Google nest hub speakers. Black Friday had great sales on all this stuff. Trying to set up googles hub 7 was impossible. It wouldn’t stay connected to the internet for more than a split second before “Something went wrong” message. Probably over 70 tries. (Google is better than Echo Show. Apple HomePod mini sounds crisper and better than Amazon echo 4 and mini 5’s. But Alexa is way friendlier to interact with verbally, and price point, well...) Frustration. Thursday, I broke down and bought my first Apple Homepod Mini to see if I can get that working and see if it works better than the Apple TV 4k Ethernet connection. The HomePod mini gave me a hint how to solve all these l connection and internet blocks. The HomePod mini kept telling me that I don’t have “peer-to-peer connection” allowed on my network. Now, I’m a little techy, but it took three days (ehem, months) to finally take a chance on a for granted setting I always enable on my netgear router. It’s the blasted first Wireless page when enabling a wifi broadcast. I had to deselect “Enable Wireless Isolation.” That was it. It solved every issue I have come across with smart home tech for the last 4 months, ..year. For the months that I could not solve these problems, Amazons Multi-Player Music issue made me dig deeper. I did not find anyone suggesting this particular router setting, so I thought I’d share with ppl. Tonight, I finally am able to simultaneously play music on all of my Echo speakers, connect my HomeKit enabled and Google nest hubs. I’m not sure what this will do for my/your internet security. But I’m going with it for now. And I’ll try to put all devices back onto guest Wi-Fi. I’ll never really leave Apple, but after interacting with other smart speakers, it’s probably not going to be my main go to for speaker or answers to questions. Or I’ll just get too creeped out by Google and Amazon invasiveness and acquiesce with Apple instead. Echo Dot 5 (this is such a sprite, great speaker!) Echo 4 are my favorite for Amazon Echo Echo Studio seems the least smart, most deaf, quiet, combative, difficult to interact with, of the three speakers. Hopefully the Multi-Room music fix will improve my experience with it Echo Show 8 Meh. Far too much and annoying advertising of non-solicited or wanted advertisements. Least user friendly screen to work with. It sits unplugged for the most part. I mostly got this for a friend who visits who wants a YouTube fireplace playing on the tv. SIDE NOTE on other Smart Home Amazon (online, or physical store) products, related to this topic: I have been pleased with Smartbot plugs, switches and app, the Levoit 600s air purifiers and app (app goes by VeSync), and Lutron Caséta Light Switches and Dimmers, and hub. Lutron has the most stable and reliable app out there. I was fine running their apps separately. They are very nice, better than the big 3 apps. Well, back to listening to music throughout my house instead of one or two rooms. Joy!

I just yell, "Set a pasta timer for nine minutes," while my hands are covered in raw egg or flour, and the Dot handles it. She will even happily run three different timers at once, somehow keeping track of my disorganized kitchen madness without breaking a sweat. 3. The Obscure Trivia Referee My favorite feature is using her to settle domestic disputes in real-time. * Me: "Alexa, how long do bees actually live?" * Alexa: "A worker bee lives for about six weeks in the summer..." * Me: "HAH! I told you! Pay up." She is the ultimate, unbiased third party for resolving late-night debates before they turn into full-scale family arguments. 4. Surprisingly Punchy Sound For something the size of a large grapefruit, this thing actually thumps. I can blast my favorite tunes while cleaning, and the vocals are crystal clear while the bass has just enough kick to make me feel like a professional kitchen dancer. The Verdict: If you want a tiny, helpful, occasionally sarcastic companion that will turn your lights on, play your music, and track your pasta without ever complaining, buy the Dot. She’s the perfect roommate—all the help, none of the attitude.
