Really pleased with this purchase. Used to have an Eheim professional + (can’t remember the model number) but it was a nightmare to clean and then prime (it hadn’t a built in pump). I got this and a small water-feature pump and it’s is a thousand times better. It’s a doddle to clean, and it actually does a fantastic job in its own right of removing solids. I have a lot of plants in my aquarium so they do the biological stuff that is missing from this - but if you use a bio-filter then this would be an excellent choice for a pre-filter as it is so easy to clean. As other people have said, there are a few niggles with it, like the clips come off when you clean it, the inlet position is inline with one of these clips which is awkward, and getting he lid off with wet hands and nothing firm to grip on is difficult, but for the price I can happily live with all of these minor niggles. If I build out my aquarium I will definitely use more of these filters.

So now I have two of these and theyre just a huge time saver and incredibly effective I have one attached to a aps 2000ef one to a 1000ef. The idea is actually brilliant, i dreaded cleaning out my canisters usually once every 2 months but it's been 8 months and my canister is still clean removing all hassle from tank maintenance. The two taps on the booster make maintenance really easy and it traps all heavy muck leaving my expensive filter media with clean water for super effective filtration I have noticed a drop in ammonia and nitrates since using these in 2 heavily sticked goldfish tanks the ultimate filter test is goldfish! They are quite fiddly to attach hoses too takes around 20 minutes and a sharp knife but the time saved long term and the obvious benefits in filtration and water quality far outweigh the set up time. Highly recommended brilliant idea and an excellent product.

I have been running this for a few months now so thought I'd give a quick review. I have this as a pre filter for my JBL Cristiprofile E1501, which I have packed with biological media. This runs alongside my Fluval FX4 on a 450litre planted tank. As with most of APS items I was expecting a relatively cheap product (you get what you pay for right?) But much to my surprise this is quite well made. It comes with three different sponges, ranging from course to fine, with the water flowing from bottom to top I start with a course through to fine to polish the water off before it enters the canister filter. It is not see through like the image suggests, which is fine, I just disconnect weekly and give it a good clean with a tap, as it's only acting as a dirt remover I'm not fussed on affects on bacteria. It does the job at removing grime from the water, without any significant loss in flow when using a relatively powerful filter. It is easy to disconnect and clean regularly and I'm happy with the sponges provided. In summary, for the price it's a great way to negate the need to keep cleaning your canister filter and enabling you to use that solely for biological filtration, leaving this to do all your mechanical beforehand. 2020 update: So, still going, although affectively just a box with filter sponges! Only criticism is that the clips holding the lid on are particularly brittle, I've managed to snap 3/4 clips and have now resorted to cable ties. Bizarrely it's £10 for just 1 clip on the APS website! Yes, 1 clip is a tenner! The unit only costs £20! Just for that I've knocked a star off. Anyway, works well and as expected, you will need to clean once every week or two depending on your stocking levels.

After wasting a lot of money on in aquarium filters I gave this a shot and I am very happy with it. My fish are finally happy and the water looks much cleaner and clearer after 20 min of use. It is very silent too. One thing to mention, after setting everything up and starting to filter, nothing was happening so I stopped it and added 1 L of fresh water to the canister and restarted it and worked perfectly afterwards with it getting full water flow within 5 minutes. If you have a small or bigger tank that gets overpopulated (like in my case) and you start losing your fish, I highly recommend this filter to you. Also it gives the benefit of not overheating your water tank in the summer :)

Quality product, I bought this to add onto my 1000EF so I could separate the biological & mechanical media so I could fill them up with extra media to boost my filtration, so far so good, definitely recommend, this product makes no noise as there is no motor attached, boosts storage capacity, value for money, very easy to set up.

Bought this as a pre filter for a UV clarifier. Easy to fit and adjust the flow to suit the UV filter. It's all working very well in my small pond set up, very pleased.

I theory these should be great, I've got three of them, I had one leak out the top joint on delivery but the other two work with a big but, coupled with a canister filter it allows you to fill the main filter completely with media and move the prefilter duties to these things, however the o ring seals are dreadful, any restriction at all will have the canister filter pulling air in past the seal, I actually lost a canister filter (and all ponds solutions one) when It had so much air in it the internal UV tube cracked and shorted out the house, the company's after sale service (in my experience) was appalling to the point I gave up, (see my YouTube video) so you must clean the sponges over regularly and need to change the o rings regularly, like twice or three times a year because they compress and start leaking, not a problem except All Pond Solutions will charge you £9.99 plus postage per o ring, so over half the cost of the whole unit which is crackers, as a side note the clips fall off when you take it apart which is annoying! So as a concept, brilliant but very poorly executed and probably the worst customer service I've experienced. Just needs someone to make a decent version that I'd happily pay more for.

I bought this in order to better maintain my canister filter. I put all my biological media in main canister filter and I clean these sponges every other week. Its super convenient to clean this than to take apart my main canister filter. Its saved me a lot of time and hopefully my nitrates continue to go down. Thank you pondguru for this recommendation.
