Question 1

Can this be used for casting 2cm thick items in a silicone mold? Or is it only suitable for thin layers?

Great question!  ArtResin was designed as a surface coating for artwork, not as a casting resin.  It was formulated to be poured in thin applications no thicker than 1/8" or 3mm at a time.  Having said that, you certainly can achieve a thicker coat, but you must pour in 1/8" or 3mm increments.  You can wait 3-5 hrs in between layers.  If you pour thicker than 1/8", bubbles won't have a chance to rise to the top to get torched out and you'll end up with bubbles in your cured resin.  Hope this helps!

Question 2

Can you use this on outdoor projects?  If not, could you put a marine grade varnish or sealer on the top?

Once cured, ArtResin is weather resistant and waterproof and while many artist do use it for outdoor pieces we still don't recommend that you put it outside.

With its advanced UV and Hindered Amine Light Stabilizers, ArtResin is chemically engineered to offer the best protection against yellowing on the market. Even so, it doesn't make sense to deliberately put your artwork in an environment full of UV rays - it makes it much harder for ArtResin's UV stabilization to do its job :)

Question 3

Can I use resin on plexiglass?

We have had artists that apply ArtResin to plexiglass however you may want to try a test piece first. Because it is plastic, there is a small chance it may peel off ... some of our artists like to sand the plexiglass first to give some tooth for the ArtResin to adhere to. The biggest thing to prevent separation between the two surfaces aside from the sanding it would be to keep a steady temperature. Drastic changes in temperature may cause the resin to separate from the substrate.

Is it 1 gallon of hardner and 1 gallon of resin, or 1 gallon of hardner and resin combined?

Our 1 gallon kit will come with .5 gal of Resin and .5 gal of Hardener when mixed at a 1:1 ratio you will have 1 gallon of ArtResin Epoxy Resin :)
