Is there an option to mains charge the battery, say on initial use or in very cloudy weather?

As the battery is a 7Ah capacity, safe charge would be at 10% of that which is 0.7Ah. If you buy a trickle charger that as an output rated no higher than 0.7Ah (700mAh) and the battery is carefully measured with a multi meter every so often as to not overcharge, the battery can be safely charged by mains power. However, the cover from the box would need to be opened and this may invalidate a manufacturers warranty. Please charge with care and disconnect battery from wiring harness in box when battery is charging.

Question 2

When the unit is set up with the solar panel attached, for charging the battery, does the "master switch need to be "on" or "off?"

just to point out that the unit will not charge the internal 12v battery if the power switch is off. The unit has a regulated charging system that will not "overcharge" the battery. However, as per the instructions given, if the battery is allowed to discharge completely the unit will have to be looked at by an electrician. The moral to this story is "do not switch off the main power switch".

Question 3

I know it might not be practical, but is there a way to use an ac (3 pin) plug with this product? is there an adapter i could purchase?

If by 3 pin plug you mean to attempt to run a 240v item from this piece of kit, it doesn't work like that. Output is only low voltage. If you are asking can you charge this piece of kit, I believe it may be possible but would suggest you contact the manufacturer. Great piece of kit though.

Can you carry this on a commercial flight?

Probably not, as it is quite big and has a 7Ah lead acid battery inside. Please check with the company you are flying with to see if they accept a solar panel and a battery as the restrictions may vary.
