How good is the game if I buy it used? Is it as good as buying it new?

Well It depends. If the state of the used game is like near mint one then everything will be fine! If the disk is full of scratces then you are going to have a lot of problems with it! Every game on amazon comes with a state discription. Don' t buy something worst than "Very good condition" and you will be fine! Be aware that If you want to use your game for online multiplaying then you might have some problems cause the codes can be already in use.
