Sony PS3 500GB Super Slim Console (PS3)

I had the old fat and shiny 40Gb PS3 and just loved it. Sadly it packed in with the yellow light of death followed by the red flashinglight of death !! I was fortunate that there wasn`t a disc trapped inside when it failed or I would have had to go into dismantling mode !!I decided that life without a PS3 wasn`t for me so I searched for a best price new PS3 and found this new model at Amazon. I elected freedelivery and I had my new PS3 three days later. Well done Amazon.My first impression was how light and slim it was compared to my chunky old unit. I had read reviews of this unit being a bit noisy inoperation but when it is running a game it is virtually silent. Yes, you do hear it when it is spinning up and loading but at least you know itis doing what it`s supposed to do.I personally like the top loading via the sliding cover as it is one less thing to go wrong and at least you could retrieve your disc if the unitshould fail with a disc loaded.I am impressed with the capacious 500Gb available compared to the 40Gb of my old unit. I will probably store all my digital photographs on my newPS3 and enjoy watching them on TV.As I said in my title the new PS3 does just the same as the older models. It has the same powerful cell processor and will play Blu Ray films ifyou so desire. It really is a nice neat unit and I am very pleased with my purchase.

after 5 years of xbox 360 i decided to move to another generation but instead choose ps4 i decided to bought a ps3(and i will bought in the future a wii u to put near it) , why i took a ps3 ? well now is cheaper and her games as well, i am tired of shooter and fighter games i prefer now platform and particular games with some exception , and there is a plenty of exclusive such like the whole ratchet and clank series , jax and daxter trilogy, sly trilogy, puppeteer,wipeout HD little big planet series, metal gear solid 4,the last of us ecc. , and i forget it there are a lot of ps one classic game like final fantasy XII ,IX crash bandicoot and spyro series(i bought these one for first game) , i could never imagined how much exclusive game the sonys' console hold , the ps3 super slim is very light and small i was surprise,and i did not find the casing too much cheaper as well i like it the new disk insertion remenber me my childhood when i had the ps one my first console. Set up was easy as well and i found the menu more beautiful than Microsoft console i liked the controller i dont find so much difference from xbox360 controller , i did not tried the blue ray drive so i don't know yet the level of noises because most of the game i will buy by digital delivery , and in that case the console is very very quietly, i appreciate it i can buy from playstation network with the paypal system is more safely now than before so if you want a very good game system took a this one you will be not disappointed

Even as "last years model" the PS3 is still an excellent console. With a vast array of games available including some award winning exclusive titles which are now very cheap (The last of us and the Uncharted series spring to mind). The slim takes up a little more space than your average Blue Ray player but with the 500 GB hard drive it can store movies, downloaded games, music and pictures.With an internet connection it can be used to play Amazon prime films or Love film on your TV as well as BBC I player and E4 and even as an internet browser though it is cumbersome to browse the web or write anything longer than a tweet without a keypad attachment (not included).If your holding out for PS4 to come down in price this is still a good console and doubles up as a blue ray player compatible with most sound systems. To boot if you have a modern sony TV then most models will let you use your remote with the PS3.

Firstly, addressing the 1,2 and 3* reviews. If your console is faulty, bad luck, but get it replaced. You should have no problems with this if you bought it from Amazon. Also, the 500GB is the total memory of the machine, of course some of this is used for the system software and any other extras you may add to the thing but you will still have bucket loads of memory left for music, videos, downloaded games and anything else available for you to put on your console.As for the actual build of the machine, it in no way seems flimsy or cheaply made. The casing is solid, the connectors firm and it all looks fairly sleek. The lid slides right to left, to reveal the disc holder and laser. This is probably the most vulnerable part of the console because it requires you to open and close it yourself ( although it will spring open at a touch of the release button ) It is probably less likely to break than a motorised tray or a slot loading device, so long as you treat it with respect.Next the "noise". Virtually silent on my console. Occasionaly hear the disc spin, but that's it. Hard drive also quiet.This is my first PS3 and I have never owned an X-Box 360.It is great.It is worth the money.I will also use it to watch blu-ray disks.

I got this to replace my old FAT PS3 that died the other week from the dreaded Yellow light of death.. It had been used to death in the 5/6 years I had it so it did very well.. I was going to hold out for the PS4 as its not long off now.. However I have a good amount of PS3 games I simply wont be able to play on the PS4.. Classic Black opps with zombies and the like.. (I could never be without that game in my collection)So ok.. Is this any better the the original FAT PS3? No clearly not.. Its got a bigger hard drive and a better fan system so im told.. But the main hardware is as the original.. however its not anywhere as cheap and lightly made as people have been moaning about.. The disk tray does make a little more noise when loading then the old one as its at the top now.. But the system itself is a lot quieter then the old one when running games off the hard drive or non disk tasks .. I have a plus account again now and I play most things on the HDD and it makes hardly any noise at all, even after hours of use its still the same.. So yes I love this one as much as the old one.. Just miss the over the top DVD drive tray lol

Ill start with the ONLY good thing about this product and that was the quick and efficient way that Amazon dealt with the order and delivered it - 5 stars to you Amazon.Now where to begin - Firstly when you open the box you immediately notice how light and rubbish it looks. Gone is the slide in disc load system which has been replaced with a hard to find tiny button that springs open the flimsy cover over the top of the console and we now have an old PS1 style disc loading system. (There is now no eject disc function) The lid is spring loaded to open very shoddily. On the other PS3's you had the little brush that sort of cleaned the disc as it was loaded, well no more. You have to manually close the lid by pushing it sideways over the top of the disc. It is very poorly designed.Secondly - The cheap looking plastic makes the unit look very tacky indeed. It may look cool in the ads and on the box but when you hold it in your hands you notice that it could have easily have been conceived from a Kinder egg toy. You get the feeling that if it was dropped it would shatter on impact, even on a carpet.The disc groans as it loads and as I played my first Blu ray on it. It struggled to play the disc continuously and instead kept pausing the film and skipping frames much to my dissapointment as it was a brand new product/unit.Copying my music and videos over to the HD took an eternity as the console struggled to read a USB stick, leaving me waiting a while before it decided to start copying over the files.The choice of 500GB and 12GB!!!!!! -Who actually thought these options would be useful. 12GB is impractical with data saves allowing you only a couple of games data utilties to be updated to the unit. And will we ever have that much music and video to fill a 500GB HD.The joypad feels cheap and fragile, did not feel good and sturdy in the hands, I could not find a warranty in the box (how apt).I did read a few reviews before I purchased this item and I must say "what were these reviewers on!!!!!" Another planet is my guess OR they were carefully chosen by SONY.The only reason I was purchasing this new Ps3 was because my Blu Ray stopped reading my discs on my 320GB slim version. Apart from the Blu Ray issue the 320GB slim was a good ol console. It felt sturdy, it did the job and I had it 2 years before the lens went. I should have got it fixed, I think i will still do that now.All in all this is a massive step backwards for the PS3, and no amount of different colours offered and bundles can make up for the 'devolvement' of this product. It seems to me that Sony have only got their eyes on the PS4 and have thrown this new superslim PS3 at us to bind us over til the new PS4 comes out.Ive never been dissapointed with a Sony product before, MY GOD who do you think you are kidding SONY to throw this at us and expect us to accept it as a step forward.The worst thing is the price. I paid the same for this PS3 as I did for all my other ones £240 and it clearly does NOT represent value for money. If it was £150 OK I could accept that, but they have stripped as much as they can from it to keep costs down and then gone and charged the same anyway. SHAME ON YOU SONY!!!!!!!If Amazon would allow me to exchange this for a 320GB slim version (even a used one) I would bite their hand off. In fact I will be making the appropriate emails and phonecalls as from tomorrow.As a Loyal Playstation owner from 1995, I have owned and enjoyed every version and update they have produced, I actually did the unthinkable today and started thinking about buying an XBOX, I know for the price I paid for this I would get a lot more bang for my buck.SONY - HOW DARE YOU treat your loyal customers to this shoddy, throwback, piece of poorly made C**P! and then rip us off at the same time by charging us the same.To anyone thinking of purchasing this item, take it from me DONT. If your a true Playstation lover you will abhore this version of the PS3As you can see i am very very disgruntled with this poor poor product!

The ps3 came, as detailed in the ad, fully working and with all the cables. The note that was placed on the outside of the bubble wrap was a nice little touch. It made me feel like I had actually helped someone out with my purchase. Like I said a nice touch.

This PS3 super slim is a great games console and it works fantastically for playing games. There are only two problems that I have found playing this console. One is that the hard drive is a little bit slow on installing games, especially big 6-8gb ones which can take 30minutes. The second problem is the most severe and I would go as far as saying that it is a bit of a design flaw. My reason for this is because the HDMI port is located at the rear of the console in the centre, in between the cooling fans. After 10 minutes of games or even downloading. These cooling fans blow warm air out of the back and onto the HDMI cable. I have had to replace several cables because they have warped from the heat and no longer work. I am a little bit let down by these problems which distract me from fully enjoying this machine, however Apart from these problems I am really happy with the console. 7/10

I was nervous and skeptical buying a used PS3, but there were a lot of good reviews, so I trusted them. I got the PS3 quickly and even though it was dirty and scratched up, it runs really well. I got it for a Christmas gift for my husband because he has a bunch of games that are his favorite and can only be played on the PS3. We had a PS3 years ago, but it fried and died. Because this is a meaningful gift I wanted it to look nice, so I had my 19 year old daughter, who loves to do nails, draw, and paint, work her magic on this PS3 for her dad. She detail cleaned it, buffed scratches out, and then she painted, and resined scenes from one of my husband's favorite movies on the sides of the PS3. It covered the flaws and made it personalized for him. I know he's going to love it even more now!
