I was introduced to this album by a friend; and it was love with the first song most of the original orchestral music is by Shigeru Umebayashi and is absolutely sublime. Incredible production and sound an all around great soundtrack. There is and extended version of this album that contains twenty songs and is worth looking for. Why this is not a better known piece of music I will never know . Excellent soundtrack to a great film.

Great Soundtrack and very good service.

A few Japanese films have been released recently, claiming to be the most beautiful film ever. 2046 is one of those, but it makes a bigger claim by having a simply outstanding soundtrack. Entirely listenable in its own right, even if you never see the film, it intersperses jazz-marinated cello-laden symphonic music with perfect selections from classic big band such as Dean Martin and Nat King Cole - a very 'Western' selection indeed. From the Perez 'Prez' Prado-like Siboney to the very famous opera piece Casta Diva, the music is never less than wonderful. Umebayashi Shigeru also arranged the score for House of Flying Daggers, but this OST surpasses that for sheer excellence. An hour in which to lose yourself in fantasy.

No one who has watched 2046 can resist buying this OST, it is actually the music that make this film so beautiful and memorable. But I must say (particularly to the reviewer above) that 2046 is a film from Hong Kong rather than Japan. The diector, Wong Kar-wai, is really famous in Asia, not just in Hong Kong. In Europe, he and his films has been winners in Cannes in the past few years and I would regard "In the Mood for Love" as his masterpiece and the best Asian film I've ever seen.

It is as good as the film, that is to say, brilliant.

The DVD has a feature describing the significance of the music in the film; I won't repeat that. I will tell you that the soundtrack album takes you back to the film with evocative incidental music, and the period pieces ("Sway with Me" is my new favorite jazz song). The last track is an auditory montage of sounds, dialog, and music. If you love the film, you'll appreciate having this CD. Great to drive to in the morning commute....

I saw the movie and took a big chance and bought the CD of the music. Wow just a wonderful soundtrack. The recordings are all just outstanding -- quality work. And amazing, these are all such complete songs, that you can listen to the entire album -- there are only 2 short 35 second songs that would only be found on a "soundtrack". I highly recommend this album -- a gem -- buy it while it's still available! As an update - April 2012 - this CD remains one of my favorites.

Meine liebste CD: unvergleichliche Filmmusik zum Film von Wong Kar Wai; ein Must für Liebhaber von dessen Filmen und vor allem von Shigeru Umebayashi. Sinnlich, geheimnisvoll, rhythmisch, zieht mich immer wieder in Bann.

Questa colonna sonora è semplicemente BELLISSIMA! I pezzi originali composti da Shigeru Umebayashi sono fuori dall'ordinario, quelli degli anni '50 che la completano pure. Se la trovate prendetela, vale la pena.
