Set for release on June 23 via Asylum Records, x (multiply) is the hugely anticipated new album by Ed Sheeran. It follows his critically acclaimed and hugely successful 2011 debut +. Never an artist to stand still, Ed recorded x at various locations around the globe (all the while drawing on experiences and influences encountered on his over three years of unrelenting touring) with such luminary producers as Rick Rubin (Eminem, Jay-Z, Red Hot Chilli Peppers), Pharrell Williams (Daft Punk, Robin Thicke, N.E.R.D), Benny Blanco (Rhianna, Wiz Khalifa) and Jeff Bhasker (Alicia Keys, Jay-Z) adding new flavours to the classy work of key collaborators Johnny McDaid (Snow Patrol) and Jake Gosling (who produced +). The new set showcases the exponential growth (both vocally and musically) of an incredible artist, who at 23 exhibits the poise of a seasoned veteran. The songs for x came together whilst touring + and, in the same way as the latter was a snapshot of his life and relationship to-date, x charts his loves and life since. Only 'One', the perfect album opener and first song written for the record (in 2011 whilst on tour in Australia) looks back to that time and is the link between the two records. With 'One' under his belt, almost before he noticed he was writing, Ed had ten new songs and counting. The breath-taking album-closer ‘Afire Love’ was written about his grandfather who passed away last Christmas. “Always the hero of the family - such a cool guy - he'd been suffering with Alzheimer’s for some time and I actually started writing that song two weeks before he passed away," Ed says. "I was thinking 'What if?' and then he did…” Then there is the timeless ballad ‘Photograph’ written in May 2012 in a hotel room in Kansas whilst on tour with Snow Patrol. McDaid had a piano loop playing on his laptop while Ed was making a Lego X-wing Fighter to give to a charity auction. He just started singing as he put the pieces together and the song grew from there. ‘Don’t’ started life as a riff on his phone and grew into another of x’s massive moments. The deluxe version of the album also includes the original song, ‘I See Fire’, which Ed wrote, produced and recorded for the second Hobbit movie. This was after Academy award-winning filmmaker Peter Jackson personally commissioned him. However it’s the Pharrell-produced lead single 'Sing', due out in the UK on June 1, that’s pushing the envelope for Ed. #Sing was the number one trend on twitter globally ahead of launch with the track immediately tearing up airwaves nationwide including a 7-week add to Radio 1 and an unprecedented addition straight to the Super Hit list at Capital FM and Kiss Network. The audio upload on YouTube was Ed’s biggest ever video launch, clocking 650k views in its first 24 hours. Already i-tunes Top 5 in 15 different countries (number 3 in the US), Top 20 in 36 countries and with all chart positions climbing, ‘Sing’ is well on the way to being a global smash. On the back of ‘Sing’s’ launch, x reached No.7 in the UK iTunes chart on pre-order alone with that success mirrored internationally with No.1 positions in the US and Canada, Top 5 in New Zealand, Sweden, Australia and Top 10 in 20 countries. “I’m really proud of my new album and can’t wait for people to hear it.” Ed says. “It’s definitely my best work.” Review: Great album - Great album Review: cd - A very good album to listen too

X-cellent!
When I realised Ed Sheeran was finally bringing out a second album (after milking the hell out of the first one!) I was extremely excited for it. I was a bit nervous too as Ed Sheeran said something about changing it up for his second album, or something along those lines. I just wanted the Ed Sheeran I'd come to love, the one that had that distinctive style with his acoustic guitar which even made itself evident on the CD. His CD finally turned up (Duluxe edition with all 17 songs on), and for once I'd hardly heard any of his songs off the album, other than his single 'Sing' and a few others like 'I see fire' and 'All of the stars'... After listening to it about 6/7 times, all I can say is wow, what a brilliant album and hats off to Ed! 'Sing' in my opinion is the worst song on the album, which is saying something about the quality of the album as I still enjoy that song... For once, I genuinely cannot pick a few faves from the album like I can with just about any other album (including his first album which I loved A team, Small Bump and Drunk). If I were to pick my faves it would effectively be the entire album, as it's so strong. The bonus songs felt like the weaker songs at first listen, but having heard them many more times since, I actually really like them and so they're all very equal and very very strong! Perhaps if I absolutely had to pick a favorite it would be 'Afire Love' because of the emotion in the song, as well as it being an incredible song. Can't wait to hear more from Ed, but this will certainly tide me over until his next album, let's hope it's not another three year wait though!!!

Wonderful before : (Divide)
From street performer to international star, British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran is definitely one of the biggest names on today's music scene. His album "X" is wonderful. The themes revolve largely around love, the backbone of his artistic production, but each trace is colored with its own nuance, passing from memories ("Photograph"), to the distance from home and loved ones ("One" and "Nina "), Alcohol (" Sing ") up to the disease (" Afire love "). The sounds range from funky, to rhythm and blues to hip hop soul, but, as well as for the themes, they are always accompanied by the typically English pop imprint. The characteristic that most distinguishes this guy is, however, the unmistakable voice-guitar combination that makes him independent of any instrument, both in the studio and live.

A piece of genius multiplied by 10!
Excuse the pun above but ya know! Had to it just felt right. I'll take a step back momentarily and just say.. The music coming this year just gets better and better; Sam Smith "In The Lonely Hour" Michael Jackson "Xscape" and now Ed Sheeran "X (Multiply)". This is the best of the best right here. From the quiet ballad of falsetto and acoustic "One" To the ever so regretful "I'm A Mess" Followed on by the number one UK single acoustic dance track of "SING" Then we get to the best stuff. "Don't" is a particular highlight of mine. And many others by the looks of things. The hip-hop influenced spoken rapped four minute masterclass about being cheated on. "Nina" is another hidden gem. R&B and catchy about long distance relationship. "Thinking Out Loud" is also a personal favourite; a pretty falsetto ballad. Uplifting. "Bloodstream" is a catchy R&B influenced song about drugs etc. "Photograph" is another long distance relationship song. Lovely. And "Afire Love" is heartfelt ballad about his grandfather's alzheimers and resulting death. Those are my favourites. Not that the others aren't exceptional! "I See Fire" is ridiculously good. Slow, slow, slow, then an explosive ending. "The Man", a song reflecting on love, career, and fame. Sung in a rap! "Take It Back" is a song about his career, reminiscent of "You Need Me I Don't Need You" from "+". "Shirtsleeves" is a beautiful touch. Nuff said! "Even My Dad Does Sometimes" is pretty but my least favourite. "Tenerife Sea" is kinda magical. About true love, Ed Sheeran style! "Runaway" is about Ed's dad's drinking problem, and is the second song directed by Pharrel. A very touchful yet upbeat tune. "The Fault In Our Stars" is a real gem of an end to a real gem of an album. Highly recommend. Best album this year :-)

Multiply is a brilliant Album from Ed Sheeran. Buy it. It will not disapoint you.
Simply wonderful. Play it endlessly. Greatly admire Ed Sheeran for how he had faith in himself and left home at 16 with his guitar to play in subways of London. If my son did that I'd have freaked out, and worried myself silly. Maybe his parents did that. But on the other hand, his faith in his own abilities as a singer songwriter is commendable. Ed Sheeran is one of those singers who for me, came into my own limelight with his song Thinking Out Loud, and I just had to own a copy of it. Since listening to the albulm I have loved so many of the other tracks especially track 16 I see Fire. Where Ed got the lyrics for that track from I'd like to know. Does he have Native American roots, or a Native American Spirit Guide perhaps? Great song. A masterpiece. Not overly keen on the Rap, but Ed does it better than most so I bear those tracks and there isn't much of it anyway, only one track really that I generally fast forward. I thoroughly recommend this albulm to everyone whether you have heard of Ed Sheeran or not. The lyrics are down to earth and could apply to any of us. I look forward to Ed produce future albums and will snap them up the moment they are released. In many respects he reminds me a little of Justin Timberlake and Darren Hayes both of whom I love to listen to and have every album of. But then on the other hand Ed is one on his own. Cannot fault him. Congratulate him immensely.
