Wonderful reference
A very informative book, a good start for anyone wishing to reference essential oils and their uses and effects. Old fashioned I may be in these days of Google but a good book don't need a Wi-Fi signal ๐ค

Amazing book
This is a great book for anyone interested in essential oils. It explains how they work within the body via different usage methods such as inhalation, massage, bath oils, etc. It goes through quite a lot of different plants, their uses as essential oils, precautions and more. Definitely recommend!

Highly recommended for every household
I got these 3 well rated books (see pics) specifically to learn about essential oils and how to safely use them. Out of the 3, this one is the only one with lovely coloured pictures. It will come priceless just for that reason alone. Except for how it has listed the essential oils in alphabetical order of their scientific/botanical names, everything else seems well organised/structured. Knowing the exact botanical names for them is a must as it will help find them even in different languages/countries but for the normal user who will most probably not be familiar with these botanical names it will be a problem when listed in botanical names order. I feel this must have been an error that went undetected as the book was checked coz this book is definitely targeted to the normal user. Though this book has an invaluable amount of knowledge packed in, it definitely is not one with great indepth detail to be targeted for the more knowledgeable person for the essential oils to be listed in the order of their botanical names. Each essential oil has atleast 2/3 (of one side) of a page worth information. And each base oil has 1/2 (of one side) of a page worth information packed in. Check out the pics to see some examples of these. I love the information like dilution percentages given (see pic of Tagetes safe usage section) for safety. It will help stay within safe levels when mixing. The book in whole is very good quality with a good wealth of information for day to day life packed in. Is worth every penny and would highly recommend for every household.

A-Z of essential oils
This 256 page hardcover book is packed full of photographs and useful information about essential oils and their uses. After the introduction, there is a general section about essential oils, then sections on their use, storage, and an A-Z. Looking at the Contents table the A-Z seems to be ordered in a jumble, but then after looking at the actual pages for the essential oils, I realised they are ordered by their Latin names. For example, rather than flicking through the book to find Ylang ylang I had to refer to the Contents page to find it, as it is placed in the A-Z with the C's under 'Cananga odorata'. There are helpful little 'badges' for some essential oils to indicate what they can be used for, eg bath oil, massage oil, diffuser, compress, skin care etc. Confusingly, some of the essential oils span 2 pages, for example on pages 92-93 are Juniper, Bay Laurel and Lavender, but the Bay laurel spans pages 92 and 93 and at first glance it made it look like the Best Uses section for Bay laurel was part of the Lavender section. Some of the oils have a 'Sticker' on the page entitled 'A Perfect Blend', suggesting other oils that blend well with that oil. As a beginner to blending I would have liked to see this for all the oils, although there is a section on blending fragrances later in the book. After the A-Z are sections about base oils, an explanation of additional ingredients, and some recipes for body care and healing remedies. Some of the recipes have a note of how long they will keep for, but some don't, so I'm assuming these are ones that have to be used immediately, which for me is impractical as I don't have the time to make things every day. The bulk of the book is about the essential oils themselves rather than recipes, so while this is a valuable resource to have for that information, if you want lots of recipes to make body and facial products, you will probably need to get another book for that.

Excellent guide, very informative and easy to refer to
Recently purchasing a diffuser along with various oils to get started, I decided to buy this from the reviews of others on Amazon and I am so happy with the purchase. Matching other reviews, this is ideal for beginners. Every page is full of pictures and is greatly informative without being too in depth to bring you into potential boredom. I have dipped into this book to help me with choosing my essential oils plus it gives great coverage on using oils for health etc but also advises on oil blend recipes, blending/carrier oils, using old for skincare, hair car etc, diffusing, bathing etc. In summary I am pleased I bought this book as I have delved into it several times already since arriving 2 days ago and just know this will be my initial bible until I learn more and perhaps need something mor I depth.

Book Review: Nealโs Yard Remedies Essential Oils by Susan Curtis
Essential Oils by Susan Curtis is an essential book to own if youโre serious about aromatherapy. This durable hardback has 256 glossy pages of full colour with plenty of photos. It has an A-Z of essential oils, for each oil covering: An introduction What it is good for? Best Uses Methods of use (i.e. bath oil, massage oil, compress, skin care, etc.) The Plant The Essential Oil (how the essential oil is made) A photo of the plant or herb Then the book goes on to sections on: Base Oils, Essential Oil Recipes and Healing Remedies. The Essential Oil Recipes includes a really useful table of common conditions and which oils are good to work with around these conditions. This book is backed by Nealโs Yard whom are famous for their shops selling essential oils. The only thing that was missing out of the book for me was spiritual/magical uses of essential oils. But other than that I would (and have to all of my friends) highly recommend this book. Essential Oils by Susan Curtis is available to buy on Amazon and at all good bookshops. Review soon, Antony

Brilliant Book!
This has to be the best book on aromatherapy oils I have read in a long time. As is usually the case with Dorling Kindersley publications, it is well thought out in terms of clearly defined chapters which follow a logical pattern. It starts with understanding essential oils and how they work, an almost encyclopaedic section on the vast array of oils available, through to uses, recipes, blends and their effects on both the mind and body. Full colour photographs really help to 'bring to life' what you are reading about and amplify the reader's understanding. The only slight issue I had with the section on each essential oil and its benefits is that they were listed alphabetically by their Latin names, rather than their common name, meaning that I was constantly referring to the index to find what I was looking for. If you are a botanist or expert, this might not be a problem; I am neither! I would absolutely recommend this book - it's a gem.

Great Book & Very informative for price!
Love this book!, After reading people's reviews i decided to give this one a try. I'm glad i did as it's an excellent book for someone who's just beginning their interest in essential oils. It has a vast range of oils for you to look at, you can search via the index which particular oil you would like to know about, it then tells you what the oil is, what it can be used for and gives you ideas of blends they work well in. I also love that their are easy blends for beginners to follow & that at the back you get a list of illnesses/problems ect... and blends for you to make for steam inhaling, diffuses, bath soaks, rubs ect... Over all great book would recommend to anyone!
