9 Peak and Peak Pro Sports GPS Watch for Demanding, Performance Driven Athletes and Adventurers

Best watch I've ever owned. I had an apple smart watch and used it for years before I picked up the Suunto 9. This watch exceeds all of my expectations. If I had more money to pick up one of the more expensive watches, I would have. But, this watch does all of the things I currently need it to do. I would highly recommend this watch to anyone who wants a smart watch. I still receive text, email notifications and phone calls which are helpful for screening before pulling my phone out of my pocket. The price point was perfect for this watch. The display on the screen is clear and just the right size for my wrist. This watch holds a charge longer than my Apple Watch did. Great watch for the value.

Great smartwatch for the last 2 months. Battery life ridiculously long - over a week no problem. Tracks steps, workouts and tennis scores. I can check my heart rate, blood o2 and sleep. Legible and easy to use. No problem pairing with my iPhone. I’m not much of a runner so I haven’t used it for that yet. I think it’s great looking in all black and sized smaller than many dive watches. Very comfortable to wear. My only knock is the strap which can come undone relatively easily. I added a black silicon strap stay and problem solved. For the price it was a no brainer and worth it. I don’t need the latest and greatest, this watch checked all my boxes.

This is my initial impression written the day after receiving the Suunto 9 Peak Pro. I will update my review after a month or two of use and increase or decrease my rating accordingly. Please note that I am not an athlete, so if you're looking for a review that covers that perspective, this isn't it. I am very pleased with the premium, minimal design and apparent quality. It doesn't scream sports, outdoors, or tactical; it's a watch that could easily be dressed up for the office with a leather band. I didn't appreciate that it was advertised as "handcrafted in Finland," but later production runs were evidently moved to China. The retail packaging has been updated, and the box and watch now reflect "Designed in Finland, Made in China." Apparently, almost all of Suunto's watches have been made in China since around 2023/2024. To be fair, iPhones are made in China, along with many other premium products, so I recognize that China has the technical proficiency to deliver quality products. Nevertheless, I thought it was made in Europe and was disappointed to learn otherwise. I just hate it when companies shift production like this and include products that are already actively marketed and stocked, as it inevitably results in customers being confused about a product's origin, as occurred here. Shift production of new products if you must, not existing products. Ok, end rant. For me, the size and style is perfect. I have a 7" wrist, average for a man, and it looks just large enough. Any smaller, and it might begin to appear disproportionate, at least by modern standards. If you're a guy with really large wrists or hands, you might prefer a more substantial model. I do feel that it should have come with a longer strap. The included strap barely fits my 7" wrist, which, again, is typical for a man; there's only about 1" of overlap beyond the buckle closure. If you have a larger wrist, you will definitely need to purchase a longer 22mm quick release replacement. Some complain about the bezels surrounding the display, but it doesn't bother me at all. I find the display to be clear and easily readable for my purposes, and I much prefer MIP to AMOLED displays because I value long battery life over vibrant colors. That was one of the primary reasons that I chose this watch. I can't say that I'm wild about its proprietary charger. It works well and easily aligns with the watch, but its cable is very short (around 1.5ft) and very thin. As such, I have it connected to a docking station on my desk, but I would have preferred a longer and more substantial cable. I am concerned about its long-term durability. Fortunately, the watch lasts a long time on a single charge, minimizing its use. From what I can tell so far, the step count seems to be highly accurate. Last night's sleep data appears likewise accurate. Time will tell if this holds true. I haven't had an opportunity to test activities yet, but I will note that I dislike that you cannot manually arrange activities on the short list. It is chronologically ordered based upon which activities you've engaged in most recently, which I'm sure works fine if you typically do the same two or three activities, but if you mix it up a lot, it's less ideal. Not a dealbreaker, of course, but a minor nuisance. I was surprised, with around 100 activities to choose from, that pickleball wasn't among them. The workaround is to create a custom sport mode using tennis as the base activity and labeling it "Pickleball." You would think with its popularity today and over the past several years that it would have been added with a firmware update. Notifications work well, as do media controls. You can't directly filter which notifications you wish to receive in the Suunto app (that's an iOS thing, not Suunto's fault), but you can achieve it by turning off Notification Center in iOS notification settings for the apps for which you do not want notifications on the watch. The weather app provides pretty much everything you would want in that regard, and standard stopwatch/timer functions are straightforward. Just bear in mind that this is a sports watch first. If you want a full-featured computer on wrist, buy an Apple Watch, Pixel Watch, Galaxy Watch, etc. All in all, at its current $199 price, this watch delivers unbeatable value and remains a perfectly viable option in 2026. It originally retailed for $549 (for this stainless steel variant). That's almost 64% off. I think you would be pressed to find a higher quality watch for the price.

I have mixed feelings about my purchase. I swim with this watch. Easy to read while splashing about, but I got two wildly different readings on two swims of equal distance. After swimming 2300m I burned 172 calories, and had a average heart rate of 72bpm. Next swim, same distance, 670 calories expended and average hr of 115. At least it counts laps for me. I'll keep swimming, but not rely on any of the physiological metrics it displays. At this price I guess it's good enough for the weekend athlete. Good enough user interface. 9/29/2025 The power percentage went from 100% to 20% in 5 hours. Not acceptable, I'll be returning watch.

...and this one is my favorite. I'll keep it short, but I have used a Fit Bit Versa, Garmin VivoActive 3, Galaxy Watch 4 and 5, Pixel Watch (1), Apple Watch (SE), and finally, the Suunto 9 Peak Pro. And that's where I'll stay for awhile. For reference: Pixel is my favorite smartwatch variant and this is my favorite sports watch variant (by far). I wanted a watch with a MIP display, good battery life, GPS, and notifications + quick reply. There's all sorts of information about the features, GPS, etc... but I'll throw out there that the notification system is very good, you can customize which apps can send notifications. And I can quick reply on Signal (I don't need to on other apps so I haven't tried). Plus, I really like the Suunto app feed, and how easy it is to share the workouts and scroll through your history. Though, I share workouts back and forth with someone with a Polar watch and it's quite similar. But I like it better than FitBit, weirdly enough. Exercise context: I run, walk, and hike for 90% of my exercises. It's not 100% accurate of course, and heartrate can be tricky sometimes, but it definitely does these activities very well. When I do stairmaster, for some reason, it can't always get the heartrate right, I'm not sure why. It usually maxes out at 120 even if I'm 40 mins in and dying LOL. I'm sticking with Suunto for the near future, they've won me over. I upgrade tech pretty frequently, but I don't see myself wanting a watch upgrade for awhile unless there's something really tempting with a MIP screen, but my next watch will almost certainly be a Suunto either way.

I love this watch does all I can ask for and great for outdoor but with recent updates to software battery life is horrible even with items like heart rate turned off and minimal functionality will burn up 70% battery daily. There is no way to its claim it could last beyond 2 days. Very disappointing with battery life. Overall you just have to charge it nightly, and it’s a perfectly good watch!

I’m really impressed with this watch.I've owned four different Suunto watches over the past 20 years, and this one continues to deliver where it matters most—battery life and durability. I charged it once when I got it and haven’t needed to charge it again for about 9 days (around 215 hours), and it still has roughly 30% battery left. That’s far better than I expected and a huge advantage over most smartwatches. The workout and sleep tracking can be hit or miss at times, so I wouldn’t rely on it for highly detailed data. But for general use and training, it gets the job done. Overall, if you’re looking for a reliable watch with outstanding battery life and solid performance, this is a great choice.

I wanted a fitness watch to track heart rate accurately and send me high heart rate alerts. While the watch is able to do this, it was extraordinarily difficult to set up and once done, it triggers so many other sound alarms as to render the feature useless. So far, I have been unsuccessful in finding out what these extra alarms are for and how to turn them off. The watch does not measure sleep as other watches do. That is, if you get up in the middle of the night and then go back to sleep, the watch will not recognize the second sleep and there is absolutely NO way to alter your total sleep time. After receiving the latest software update, the watch has developed a habit of stopping heart rate measurement at random times. The solution is to turn off the watch and turn it back on, but in my case I need 24h data. This is no longer possible. Also, after the update, you can't change the ridiculous, hard to read watch face unless you pay a subscription. I'll try to sell it. I think the problem is that I need a general health tracker and not a cycling lap counter, which seems to be what this watch is for.
