An excellent router that ticks each box and more....
My poor old Asus RT-AC3200 router has done sterling service over six years but it came to a point where it was beginning to overheat and slow down. The constant firmware upgrades from Asus persuaded me to go with another Asus router as they appear to support their products well after theyโve been taken off the market. After doing a fair bit of research, I selected the RT-AX82U. This model is the non-DSL variant so this is essentially a WiFi extender. In the box, you get the European and UK plug adapters, an ethernet cable, the power supply and the router itself. There are some leaflets and a quick start guide. The first thing I did was to see if I could move my settings from the old Asus router to the new one. Thereโs some useful video tutorials out there and I was able to transfer all my settings etc from a back-up configuration file and I didnโt have to reconnect anything. That saved me a lot of time and hassle. Well done Asus for sticking to the basics in making sure that general network settings can be transferred over even between devices that are years apart. If youโre starting from scratch, the Asus interface takes you through the set-up process so youโre not alone. As with a lot of Asus routers, the designs are original and the RT-AX82U beautifully exemplifies the design aesthetic. The main LED lighting grille is beautiful. In tandem with the app, you can generate some amazing colours although try to avoid static red as that is also used to indicate a problem. Even my wife who isnโt into technology loved the lightshow and insisted it pulsed a green colour as it is soothing. There are many other colour settings on the Asus app and itโs worth testing all of them. The AX82U is smaller than my old AC3200 but it more than compensates in all other areas. The networking and configuration capabilities of Asus routers has always been the best in class. My AC3200 I thought was comprehensive but the AX82U takes it to a whole new level. Iโve barely scratched the edge of the surface but believe me, this is one heck of a flexible router. You can connect it directly to Alexa to download updates, switch off the internet feed to the router. The traffic analyser, QOS, Firewall etc., the list goes on forever.Speed wise โ you wonโt be disappointed. It is fast. Coverage is brilliant covering the whole house without any issues even through thick walls โ quite an achievement in itself. Those four antennas although small definitely provide ample coverage. The old Asus router barely registered through two walls โ this one goes through four and provides a full signal as if the laptop was next to it.So, whatโs my final thoughts on this router? The RT-AX82U does its job beautifully. Add in the numerous capabilities which you can use along with a beautiful design, this is the router that not only looks good but it is more than capable in matching its exterior features with its networking capabilities. And it comes with a three year warranty if you register the router with Asus. Highly recommended.

Good wifi coverage for 3 storey house (2 story + converted attic)
I bought the ASUS RT-AX82U V2 (AX5400) to replace an older D-Link EXO AC2600 MU-MIMO.My Wifi signal wasn't great where the router is located at the front door but has to travel up 2 floors to a converted attic, but now I'm getting good coverage and speed.Good points- good coverage ( 3 storey house)- good speed- Android app is fairly decent (but doesn't work when I had NordVPN enabled on the mobile - I probably need to whitelist the app to use split tunneling)- no problem setting static ip addresses for selected devices- no problem setting up a DDNS pointing to NoIP server- no problem setting up port forwarding- I was able to completely replace a vodafone supplied router (fibre to the house), so no need to resort using the vodafone router as a modem in bridge mode. However configuring that was nasty in the web user interface, requiring enabling "dual wan" just to set the VLAN ID to 10.- the front LEDs look cool but can be disabled- there's apparently "Merlin firmware" you can install and is completely replaceable with the stock Asus firmware and you can swap them interchangeably without invalidating your warrantee- interestingly the router flagged that my wired ethernet connection to a powerline adapter wasn't great and recommended to replace it with CAT5 cable. Not sure whether it decided this by speed or error retransmission.Bad points- depends on your point of view. Some of the security features will require you sending your data to Trend Micro (AI security protection etc) but you must explicitly agree to the terms before it would do this and you can avoid it.

Great but not as easy to set up as would be led to believe
Needed to upgrade my poor performing sky fibre connection and after a lot of reviewing, settled along this. It's pricey but ultimately (part) did the job.Setup was a bit of a challenge, not as easy as people suggest on forums. You'll either be lucky and get it going first time or a long couple of days tweaking it. A lot of restarts of both the router and the need to reconnect various devices (echo very problematic) continually. It was a couple of days until it settled down... However I then had dead spots I didnt have before. Subsequently bought 2x ASUS RP-AX56 AX1800 extenders. Again some fiddling, but I now have excellent coverage all over the house (including the WiFi 6).I'm still tweaking it now, cat7 cables etc. Powerline adaptors don't seem to have improved.Just don't expect instant results (caveat, this could be specific to sky, notorious for making it difficult to swap from their product stack....)

Definitely the easiest router Iโve every setup
Been meaning to get a new VPN router for a while and saw this on resale. What a great router and works a treat. WiFi is strong and gets down to my greenhouse from the house.VPN Fusion makes life setting up VPNs a breeze

Great Router
Was switching to Sky broadband and had read that their routers were not the greatest, however ASUS routers were a great replacement (Asus are the only routers with client identifier - option 61 available which you need for direct replacement for sky hub).Really simple to set up, WiFi range has increased and speed is much improved.

Good but lacking in parts
I needed a low height router to use as an access point. As I have Asus already I bought this as it fitted well for the application and integrate with my existing router, I thought. You are forced to use a mobile app to initially configure, that as set for access point does not work. I had to rest and start again, I think because it assumes it's the main router. No default IP or password is provided, so I trawled the Internet to find them to manually configure. I hate this assumption that everything should be automated because when it goes wrong iit can be a nightmare. It has been reliable so far, not needing regular reboots, unlike my RT-AC86U that drops WIFI on a regular basis.I can't get mesh to work in access point mode, despite instructions available But I use ethernet for back haul which is better, not consuming wifi bandwidth. Also, there is no separate 'radio' for WIFI6, WIFI5 and 6 are on the same radio. My Netgear access point has them separate. But overall, it does what was intended just lacking the icing on the cake.

Excellent
Love it, looks good, never had any issues with this and works with all devices

Not an Australian plug
Setup was easy and app worked eventually. Despite warranty information referring to Australian customers, it ships with UK and US style plugs. Maybe they forgot it, but from my own experience Australian customers will need a plug adaptor to make it work.

Powerful and very good gaming router
I have been changing different routers to make my home connection stable especially since I am streaming my Playstation using my PS portal, but other advertised routers that are wifi6 have instability which makes my PS portal stutters. This Asus router is the best gaming router you can buy if you are tight on budget. I love this very much. perfect for my 250Mbps home internet connection. A must-buy.
