The Coen brothers make their finest thriller since Fargo with a restrained adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's novel. Not that there aren't moments of intense violence, but No Country for Old Men is their quietest, most existential film yet. In this modern-day Western, Llewelyn Moss (Josh Brolin) is a Vietnam veteran who needs a break. One morning while hunting antelope, he spies several trucks surrounded by dead bodies (both human and canine). In examining the site, he finds a case filled with $2 million. Moss takes it with him, tells his wife (Kelly Macdonald) he's going away for awhile, and hits the road until he can determine his next move. On the way from El Paso to Mexico, he discovers he's being followed by ex-special ops agent Chigurh (an eerily calm Javier Bardem). Chigurh's weapon of choice is a cattle gun, and he uses it on everyone who gets in his way--or loses a coin toss (as far as he's concerned, bad luck is grounds for death). Just as Sheriff Bell (Tommy Lee Jones), a World War II veteran, is on Moss's trail, Chigurh's former colleague, Wells (Woody Harrelson), is on his. For most of the movie, Moss remains one step ahead of his nemesis. Both men are clever and resourceful--except Moss has a conscious, Chigurh does not (he is, as McCarthy puts it, "a prophet of destruction"). At times, the film plays like an old horror movie, with Chigurh as its lumbering Frankenstein monster. Like the taciturn terminator, No Country for Old Men doesn't move quickly, but the tension never dissipates. This minimalist masterwork represents Joel and Ethan Coen and their entire cast, particularly Brolin and Jones, at the peak of their powers. -- Kathleen C. Review: One to watch again - A cinema great Review: There are lots of violent parts, well paced thriller. - Watched over two evenings, found it very slow paced, but I liked this, lot of shootings among Gand members over drugs, acting top rated, loved Josh brolin who finds the drug money then has to keep ahead of drug gang leader played superbly by Javier bardem, a very evil man. Will have to watch again in one sitting, as it was so entertaining, bit paced like Paris Texas movie, but didn't detract from this film, highly recommended viewing.

Another brilliant movie from the Coen brothers.
Another brilliant movie from the Coen brothers. I've seen it at least 20 times over the years. I had to leave a review here after reading some of the pitiful 1 & 2 star reviews, who clearly just don't get it and should stick mild mannered movies about kittens and fluffy clouds!

Classic
It's a classic in the making, if it hasn't already reached that status. A truly brilliant film. One Battle After Another (Paul Anderson) has borrowed heavily from this film, especially the cinematography. This is a must-watch.

Gripping
Violent, shocking in its ability to convey what has subsequently happened without actually showing the gory reality. Finishes at a loose end….door open for a sequel ?

A film that unfolds and ends like no others in the Hollywood mainstream scene. Coen's at their top but right before their fall
I did not like it the first time. Now I think it is a very good film with a overall sense of destiny and hopeless sense of loss. Loss of humanity, god, values. The silent scenes, the silent characters, the sometimes mechanical and almost unreal actions and situations, now they all seem to me not like Coen having lost originality and just repeating themselves (as it will happen after this film, anyway, expect for A Serious Man), but like an inevitable approach to reduce in 2 hours and convey all the density of the book. And I also appreciate much more the ellipse right before the ending, when the story takes another direction, as well as I like the way all the characters leave the scene at the end of the story, each one like they are nothing but puppets in the absurd theatre of life. And I also loved the very ending, where there is no ending, no mainstream and reassuring conclusion. Unfortunately Coen will just copy themselves after that, continuing to follow the same cold approach and strategy, but with nothing else or more to say, thus resulting in dry and pointless new films, no more just essential, but just essentially boring. Blu ray is fantastic both for audio and video quality (the photography is remarkable)

Brilliant in every sense
Simply a classic. The tense moments and conversations that make this one of the best movies I have seen. Brilliant psychopathic thriller

Great movie, perfect condition, fast shipping
Brand new in clear wrapper as advertised. The shipping was fast and movie was a great price. As for the movie itself, its a good movie, slower then a normal action movie, but the story is great, acting is great. Watch it if you haven't
