Perfect.
Simple to set up and use. Absolutely delighted and totally worth the money. Was sceptical to start with as originally wanted a wooden one but this works perfectly, isn't extortionate in price like the wooden ones and comes in a plastic tube for storage. Used it 3 times the first day I received it and so simple. Hands down beats trying to unwind a skein on the back of a chair. Spending £20 will save you hours of having to untangle yarn. Believe me.

Great winder to get you started
It looks rather like an abandoned umbrella without its fabric and comes in a handy storage case. It attaches to a table using a G-clamp type fixing and the 'frame' size for holding the wool can can be adjusted by moving the umbrella-like faster up and down the central pole. Think pole based washing line for a comparison, as you slide the clip up it opens wider for larger skeins, or you can keep it quite small. It is a great winder and it can go really fast, but you can get caught out if you stop winding because the spinner will continue long after you stop winding. I found this out to my peril! This being my first winder, I think I would splash out on a wooden one next time as I do find there are plenty of places that the yarn can get caught; there are rings and hooks that support the blue frame 'arms' which are quite flexible and I had to stop and extract the wool from the rings on some occasions. A wooden winder would be kinder to your wool, which you may prefer if your yarn is expensive.

Low and reasonable price. Folds up small into compact storage case. And it works well and smoothly.
Genuinely impressed with this yarn swift, for the current price of £21.99. A reasonable price to pay in order to save a lot of bother. I always found winding skeins/hanks of yarn into balls, with no assistance (mechanical or human) to be a nuisance of tangles and frustration, gritted teeth and much swearing. But have now winded skeins/hanks of yarn into neat balls using this new yarn swift I've bought. It's easy and lovely to use and saves such a lot of time and frustration. Makes it a relaxing, pleasing experience. It's easy and intuitive to set up and use. May be of practical use to readers: the product description says: "The table clamp or clip is 1.75" (use it on a table thinner than 1.75"/4.5cm)" - but by being careful with the screw/clamp bit, it does sit firmly on my table that is full 5cm thickness. It folds up neatly again - it works just like an umbrella - and I had no trouble fitting it back into its compact storage box. Glad I bought it.

Smooth, sturdy and great price
I already had a yarn winder but my husband had been complaining about acting as a yarn swift. I spent about 6 months looking on amazon and other sites but couldn't find a swift that had reviews without a fair amount of negative ones, until now. I used this swift on a hank yesterday, as the other reviews said instructions were confusing I didn't bother with them. I had to loosen the clamp screw before I could put up the swift but everything else was really straightforward - the swift arms expand like an umbrella and you can change the size to fit your yarn, the clamp easily screwed securely to the side table I was using, no wobbling, and it rotated really smoothly in both directions - faster than i could wind it. I had pre-tangled the hank a bit by accident, so when I first started, I rang across a lot more snags. I stopped and unwound then used the other end of the yarn and it went much more smoothly - I did have to stop occasionally but I found it easy to free the tangles by loosely spinning it both ways. I don't know if skeins have a direction but if you are struggling I suggest trying winding from the other end. Arrived in a hard plastic box so protected from bending/plastic parts breaking which was great. It was a tight fit so I have decided not to bother putting back in the box in case I snapped some of the plastic bits, you will probably need a bit of patience if you want to store it like that. Amazing item, wish i'd found it sooner

Handy gizmo for a reasonable price
This is a very handy thing to own if you buy yarn in skeins rather than balls. It’s a little flimsy feeling, but certainly works well enough for me - it took only minutes, using this in conjunction with the yarn winder (which you can buy separately), to wind several skeins into usable balls of yarn. Needs a bit of help in guiding the yarn from the Swift to the winder, but very easy. It fits nicely on the edge of my table and has made my life so much easier! For the price it’s good value

Easy to use
Love this, I had a wooden one but trying to get the yarn skein organised to stay put whilst opening it was so difficult but this with its umbrella action is so easy! It was very reasonably priced and works so well, it turns smoothly whilst winding yarn and even has its own case which is good as it keeps it dust free and safe from breakage! Highly recommend this both for price and smooth action! Glad I changed, expensive is not always the way forward as this was incredibly low priced for such efficiency!

Scarso
