Card Game for Catan Fans
CATAN Rivals Deluxe is a fantastic card game that offers an exciting twist on the classic Catan board game. Whether you're a seasoned Catan player or new to the series, this game provides a fresh, engaging experience full of strategy and fun. The CATAN Rivals Deluxe edition comes beautifully packaged, with high-quality cards and components that feel durable and well-made. The design is sleek and modern, with an easy-to-follow setup that gets you into the game quickly. The rules are clear, and it’s evident that a lot of care went into making the game accessible while still maintaining the strategic depth that Catan is known for. In CATAN Rivals Deluxe, you build settlements, cities, and roads while managing resources and competing for control of the island. The card-based format works really well for a two-player experience and has the same exciting elements of trading, expanding, and developing that make Catan so beloved. What sets this edition apart is the ability to play in a head-to-head format, making it faster and more intense than the traditional board game. The deluxe edition includes additional expansion packs and features, adding more variety and replayability. It’s easy to adjust the difficulty, and the game offers a good balance of strategy, luck, and decision-making, ensuring that no two games feel the same. Pros: Great for two players, offering a deep and strategic experience. High-quality components and well-designed cards. Quick to set up and play, making it ideal for shorter game sessions. Offers plenty of replay value with expansion packs and customization options. Perfect for fans of Catan or those looking for a competitive, engaging card game. Cons: Best played with two players—while it can be played with more, it’s not as dynamic as the full Catan board game with a larger group. New players might need some time to get used to the rules and strategy, but once you’re familiar with it, the gameplay becomes smoother. The CATAN Rivals Deluxe edition is well worth the price, especially for fans of Catan looking for a card game version of the classic. The added expansions and customization options ensure that you’ll get plenty of enjoyment and long-term value out of the game. This game is perfect for two players who enjoy strategic card games and want a more portable, faster-paced version of Catan. It’s also a great choice for couples, friends, or anyone who loves the Catan series and wants to experience the game in a new format. Overall, I highly recommend CATAN Rivals Deluxe to anyone who enjoys strategic card games. It’s engaging, fun, and offers hours of entertainment. A must-have for Catan fans looking for a new challenge!

very good game for two
I bought this game over 1 year ago and we have played with is extensively. There are not many good two person board games but this is one of them. The game is different every time and the game is not over in the first few moves which many games are. We removed one charater from the set of cards to stop it being one sided. That card being Gavin the Polyglot.

Interesting and fun game with expansion sets letting you modify the game to keep it fresh
Purchased this game after enjoying the original Settlers of Catan. It is a really fun game and easy to get to grips with. Once you’ve played a game or two you will have the hang of it. Everything in the box is high quality and includes multiple expansion card sets which changes the way the game plays keeping it interesting and letting you loftily how you play. Great value for money and we have already had a lot of games with this not long after purchase. I would recommend this even if you haven’t played Settlers of Catan, while the theme is similar and there are similarities to the mechanics, it is an interesting and fun game in its own right. I would recommend getting some card sleeves for the included cards to protect them during play. We use the Gamegenic Blue Matte Sleeves (73mm x 73mm), they fit great and make it easy to move the cards.

Interesting and fun
A great game, but does require a LOT of table space so not for camping or the like, maybe. Many levels of complexity possible. Fiendish to work out to begin with but you soon get up to speed. Loved the ability to make your own character cards on the Catan website too.

Great game :)
It's great, but I bought it as a Christmas gift for my husband. It wasnt' shipped in a protective box! Just had the shipping label on the shrink wrap. As he brought it in from the front porch, let's just say - no longer a surprise :(

Great game for bored couples
Great way to pass the time with your wife/partner while on COVID-19 lockdown. Good length of play, around 1 hour. Each game plays out differently with the included theme card sets. Game play is mostly non-combative resulting in less arguments if your other half is passionately competitive ;)

Lots of fun for 2!
First off, I wanted to talk about the 2 other reviews for this game. The 1 star review mentions buying the game from a 3rd party seller and missing some of the pieces. While this is a total bummer, I wonder if this review would be better suited for the individual seller rather than docking the game stars. Usually if you contact Amazon they will help you resolve the issue. Plus, I noticed that Catan customer services commented on that review and offered to send free game pieces that were missing. On the second review, I don't have a problem with them scoring it with 3 stars, but I will totally disagree that games are generally the same and that the first player to have a turn has a significant advantage. If you play without using any of the expansion sets, yes games can tend to be very similar. However, the different themes offer 4 additional ways to play that can significantly alter player strategy. And lastly, I don't think that the player with the first turn has a significant advantage. They might have an advantage in certain strategies, but this is why there are multiple paths to victory. But it is important to note that luck and using all available strategies can make a big difference. If you want more opinions about this game, I suggest that you look up the Amazon review for Rivals for Catan . The other version is not the Deluxe version and does not come with the card trays (a must in my opinion). But at least you can get some more opinions. FYI, if you are curious, there are other expansions for this game that are not included in this Deluxe package. With that out of the way, let me give you some background about me. I played lots of the classic board games growing up (Monopoly, Life, Chess, Checkers, etc.). I have only played Settlers of Catan once, and that was years ago. My wife (my second player) also has a similar gaming history. We were looking for something fun that the two of us can do after the kids are in bed. First, I will say that the instruction manual is intimidating. If you are a "gamer", then you will probably have no problem with this. The manual is long and takes some time to absorb all of the rules. I suggest watching an instructional video on Youtube as that will help you learn the game quickly. You will probably have to consult the manual as you play and read some of the fine print after watching the video, but totally worth it. My wife and I have played the game about 10 times. Our time playing probably ranges between 1 - 2.5 hours. If you are playing with a theme, then your game is going to be much longer as you need 12 victory points to win rather than 7. You also need lots of space as we essentially fill up an entire card table with our set up. I also want to throw in that I love the set up and the way you turn your cards to indicate how many resources you have. Its also nice that you don't have to worry about losing tons of little game pieces as the only items in the box are game cards, card trays, two plastic coins, and 2 dice. As far as the gameplay goes, it is very fun. There can be slow moments, but usually I am so busy thinking through my next few moves and all my options that I don't care. I could see how the game might get old after many playthroughs, but we are far from that point. I could also see how the time commitment or barrier to entry could be a problem for some, but I think it is totally worth it. Great game. I am thinking about buying additional expansions already just for the heck of it.
