I love it, very easy to use
I am a young widow/mother who has zero experience with setting up solar. After googling the correct amp required and failing with the basic ecoworthy setup and incompatibility I am absolutely over the moon with this renogy MPPT, it works.. I have solar wahoooooo. I noticed reviews saying screws were flimsy, I didnt have any problem at all with the screws and was worried about it as I purchased it but i didnt think they threaded easily at all, maybe I was just more careful than a heavy handed bloke?

Ripped off
Misleading listing, Clearly states Bluetooth in the title but doesn't come with it. I contacted Renogy direct as Amazon isn't the easiest way to find out about these things. On all fairness to Renogy they did respond quickly and sent me a complimentary BT2 module ( it's actually cheaper to buy it as a complete set for some weird reason ) The controller appears to be working brilliantly and the Bluetooth thing with the app is really useful for checking how it's going

A VERY impressive controller
I bought one of these controllers in 2022. It has been in use for 4 years, so far, in between several full size 400w solar panels and a 15kwh battery bank. I was reminded to write this review after an event yesterday left me VERY impressed. Due to my mistake, a battery lead fell out of the connector. It left around 10 amps of solar power feeding into the Renogy controller for several hours. I feared the controller might be toast but, no, it didn't even blow a fuse. Once I reconnected the battery wire, it started working again. I also have Victron controllers but there's several things I prefer with the Renogy device.

Not as clever, as you'd think......
Easy to install, but a few moans - * No back-lit screen, so you cant see whats going on at night.....in this day and age, theres no excuse for not having back lighting.... * the terminals clamp the wires IN FRONT of the terminal clamp, not behind (depending on your perspective).....anyone whose ever fitted a plug to anything, or wires into a plug socket on the wall will get this.... * The 4 status lights on the front of the panel, all look like they are illuminated, when the useual 2 are on.....at a glance, you think you've got an error code up, but its not....clearly, the 4 LED's are not shielded from each other inside the caseing, and get a bit of reflection off the ones that are lit...... * the button procedures (left and right, up and down) are quite complicated, and its easy to miss a step....YouTube is full of tutorials for the product, for this very reason...... To be honest a couple of guages to monitor battery strength, and "volts in", would do the job, at a fraction of the cost.....the advantage of this system, is that you can set it up to shut down the charging, and tell you what its doing by bluetooth or the internet, (extra module at extra cost) but i am sure, there are other ways around that, that are cheaper..... The "at a glance" screen gives you the basics, * is charging taking place, * is the system using power, * how much is left in the battery (symbol) but as above.....a couple of cheap gauges, would have told you that anyway...... I meant to give it 3 stars, but pressed 4 by mistake......

Good product
Works as it should and kept a 110ah AGM battery toped up with a 200w panel in heavy cloud for a week, brilliant.

Not fit for purpose
Stay well away from this rubbish, installtion started bad when I realised that the mounting plate was specifically designed to make it almost impossible to be mounted while the unit is in place as the unit prevents you from getting to the mounting holes when all they needed to do was make the back plate 10mm bigger, but this didnt prepare me for the completely useless terminals that use the softest metal on earth as your terminel screw that instantly round off the second you make contact with a screwdriver, and for some reason the terminal screws require masssive quantities of torque to turn despite never actually gripping any size wire you try to fit in them, I was hoping to fit in 6awg but tried both 6 and 8awg will not grip the wires just fall straight beck out again, you have 2 options, either strip the unit apart invalidating any warranty to replace the terminal points with something that can actually hold wires or remove the M5 terminel tightening screw and replace with a long steal M5 Screw and effectively use that to bolt on a M5 terminal ring and hope that M5 is thick enough for the current you plan on drawering through your system, complete and utter rip off and poor engineering this is not a charge controller its a kit of bits that you might be able to salvage and turn into a charge controller wish I bought epever now, really should have lisetened to the warnings from other reviewers about the poor quality terminels, I decided to open it up and replace the terminals or at least try to fix the badly made ones fitted, to my horror I could see the paper thin metal that connected the treminals top and bottom and see how easily it twisted when trying to turn the screw, this cannot be safe if running at 40 amps its simply not enough metal for that level of current to travel through but explained why these terminals are so flimsy and unusable please dont make my mistake and waste your money on this junk, if they cant even fit it with a set of terminals that work I can not imagine how bad the rest of the unit must be of such shoddy cheap workmanship and parts and they expect me to trust them with 40 amps running through this piece of rubbish without burning my shed down, not a chance buy a cheap 10 pound PWM at least they come with proper terminals that actually secure wires. The supplied manual is also incorrect, for instance page 20 refers to changing parameters such as charging charge voltages but infact if you follow the instructions the only parameters it allows you to change is battery type and if you select Li then you can select between 12v or 24 volt since the controller cant detect that itself and needs a helping hand when using Li batterries but you cannot change the charge voltages as the manual elludes or instructs, presumable your need to spend more money on the BT-1 app controller that another reviewer said doesnt work either to change battery charge state and voltages, this really is a dissapointing product and has put me right off buying anything with the name Renogy attached to it I write procedures for a living to build and use complex pieces of medical equipment it really isn't difficult to write and verify such instructions are correct and work so any company that produces manuals that simply don't work I always feel says a lot about their quality standards of which Renogy has firmly placed themselves on my list near the bottom rung buy epever or victron and save yourself a headache and have a proper charge controller you can wire something to safely and know you can control when needed without spending more money on devices to use apps that may or may not work, I had been enjoying my small off grid solar project right up until I made the mistake of paying Renogy for this headache

Great bit of kit
Bought a discounted on to begin with. Had to pay a solar engineer £80 call out to find out what was wrong with the system.. After checks he pinpointed the control box.. Returned to amazon.. No problem.. Ordered a New one which has been working as it should. Just annoyed we were sent on described "like new" which must have been returned because it was faulty. Cost me £80.to find out.

Well priced Controller - a definite must for small-scale/camping solar applications
Great replacement for the PWM controller that came with our Renogy Solar kit. Initially we had the Renogy PWM 30 AMP controller and it was an entry level controller in all respects. The previous controller was limited to a 12 volt battery source had 2 lead pairs, one for solar panel connection and the other for the battery side connection. Any load connected to the battery array had to be connected directly to the batteries and was not governed by the controller. Also you had to rely on LED indicator lights To determine when the controller was in charge mode versus float mode. Adequate for an entry level controller but not great. Now lets talk about this controller. First, this controller is capable of 12 or 24 volt wiring installations. 24 volt DC is superior to 12 volt DC because it cuts the Amperage draw in half on the DC end. A 1.2 Amp TV running on AC/120 volts will require 12 Amps on the 12v-DC end to meet the same 140 Watt requirement. A 24 volt DC setup will reduce the amperage requirement down to 6 amps on DC, which means your DC wiring gauge doesn’t have to be as robust when supporting a 24 volt application. Secondly, the LCD display is great and is a must for a solar charge controller. It’s not enough to know that the solar cells are charging the battery, you may also want to know how “fast” they are charging the battery and whether or not the panels should be angled to reach optimized charge rate. The LCD screen also provides a percentage estimate of battery remaining in addition to the amps that are being supplied by the panels, along with a running amp-hour accumulation of charge provided the panels over a period of time and current battery voltage. Third, it has a pair of positive/negative load leads that permit connecting appliance loads up to 20 Amps DC. It’s not necessary to use the load leads for connecting the devices that run off the battery, but the added advantage of using them is that your battery array is protected from over-consumption, as the leads shut off usage on the battery once it reaches a certain level of discharge in order to protect the battery array. I’ve only used the new controller once, but the instructions were easy to follow and I made a laminated copy of the LED and Menu options as a quick reference guide that will go along with the kit on camping trips. Currently the array powers my 400 Watt (4x100W) kit and 2 VMAX 125ah batteries wired in parallel, but I am seriously thinking of doubling the panel array and adding 2 more batteries in a series/parallel configuration to take advantage of the 24 volt capabilities of this controller. Quick Note on the 100 Watt Renogy panels: When I measured the charge current of the 4 x 100 watt panels connected in Parallel I noted an 18.5 amp charge rate on the new controller or ~4.6 amps per panel. That seemed low to me given that 400 watts/12v is around 33.3 amps, or 8.33 amps per panel. In discussions with Renogy support I found out that the 100 Watts is calculated at 17.9 volts * 5.7 amps, where they use the maximum charge voltage by each of the panels as basis for the calculation. Just something to be aware of when you are reading sub-5 amps per panel charge rate on your controller. This new controller works as advertised, was relatively inexpensive for what it does, and I may update the review again in 12 months after running it a few more times for a consistency check.
