What's the difference between cool rods and hot rods

The cool rods are individually bigger so quieter. The hot rods are thinner so there are more of them per stick. It makes them louder, though not as loud as a normal drum stick.

Can you use Thunder-rods for rim shots without seriously reducing their durability? Thanks.

Good question, like all rods, they're not gonna last too long if you rim shot often, saying that, they are lasting better than my previous Wincent rods, with my sloppy playing "style" which includes many miss hits, and inadvertent rim shots. The individual dowels are quite dense, which I believe adds to their durability, over other brands.

As far as I know you don't need and different sticks for an electronic kit. I have acoustic and electronic kits and prefer to use normal drumsticks. In fact I wouldn't really use Hot rod sticks on electronic kits at all .
