Really Impressive Book for kids
I purchased this book for my 7 year old who has been asking for a fact book about bugs. I wanted to find one that wasn't little facts and told very little about bugs, but wasn't going to overwhelm him with information. This book surprised me. Its a big book, about the same as a standard paperback and a little wider. The book is organised by beetles, flying insects etc. there is a wide variety of various insects along with a good amount of detail about them. Rather than just a "did you know..." Fact it tells you where the insect lives, what it eats, what it looks like, what it's known for. The photos are varied and include many zoomed in photos. It is quite impressive in detail and I am happy with the purchase of this. My son loves it and has been reading it and telling me about various insects! I would say it is ideal for a child perhaps 6-12 ish. I would recommend to someone looking for an encyclopaedia with a variety of information and quality photos.

Awesome 👌🏼
Perfect gift for my bug-obsessed 7-year old. He's able to read everything by himself and loves the big, detailed pictures and variety of interesting bugs. It's been a lifesaver at restaurants and during car rides in and has helped cut down a bit on screen time. Very educational and fun book!

Ultimate Bugopedia
From the Praying Mantis looming out of the frontispiece, National Geographic Kids uses visuals (over 400 mostly excellent colour photos, maps and graphs across 265 pages) to draw in the young insectophile-to-be. A short introductory section presents the basics of ‘bugs’, each topic spread across just two facing pages, with multiple photos and graphics limiting text to at most three or four short paragraphs. We learn where insects fit within the biodiversity and evolutionary history of the planet, basic life cycles, key adaptations and behaviours, habitats and functions within ecosystems, migratory patterns, their importance and roles relative to people and threats to insect extinction. This firm base allows 80% of the book to focus on the major insect orders and species within them, and the key elements that make those species or orders unique or particularly interesting. The 80 or so insects chosen range from the common or iconic to the unique and truly bizarre. Who wouldn’t want to learn about blood-sucking moths, beetle larvae heavy as a cell phone, or ants that use their larvae as a glue stick? Each order/family/species gets a basic two-page spread. Identification is done more or less by eye, using the basic features of each order or, in some cases, family. Specific identification requires additional resources, some of which are provided. Scientific terms are used, explained and backed up by a good glossary. This is an excellent basic resource for students in Grades 5-8, and should sit on outdoor centre shelves as well.

Bug and pictures
Great quality book, with many good descriptions of the content. Durable enough to withstand the dropping from a toddler, light enough for a toddler to carry.
