Good Will Hunting

This film is somewhat a masterpiece like Rocky. It's about an underdog, who has special abilities, amazing gifts. Yet he is an average, poor young man with a troubled past. He is a mathematical genius, and he works at constructions, drinks beer with his undereducated, dumb but infinitely loyal friends and he tries to find himself in present day Boston. This is one of the most perfectly written, acted and directed films I have ever come across in my life. It has stayed with me for years now and I can't seem to and don't want to let it go any time soon. I am Will, you know. And I'm quite sure that many people around the world feel the same way. I too try desperately to find my way in society, make real friends, a girl who really loves me and I can love her back, a decent enough job no matter how hard it is. And if we feel that we possess some special skills which nobody understands, we feel isolated, alone, lonely. And sometimes angry. I can't emphasize enough how brilliant Matt Damon is in the role his lifetime. He is even better than in Bourne, and I assume, he will never have an acting opportunity again that can live up to this role. He is mean, disturbed, feisty, yet vulnerable, loveable, sad. The dialogues are like polished diamond. The direction is quiet, suttle, beautifully balanced, simple and realistic. All the supporting cast deserves high praise, and certainly the best of them all is Robin Williams, who is simply amazing. This is a very moving film, so much so that there are plenty occasion when we feel the urge to cry. I encourage each and everyone to do so bravely, because in the world of Good Will Hunting there's no such thing as outer nobility and dignity. These qualities come from within. A true measure of a man is how he can live day by day doing what he truly believes in. And most of all, by believing in himself. And finding love is never too late or too much trouble. And remember, what Williams's character suggests: one can't get to know life by reading books about it. You have to get out and live life while you still can. It's never too late. That was one important lesson this great film tought me. I recommend it to everyone whole heartedly.

Good Will is Hunted by the Mathematics Lecturer. the therapist and America's criminal justice system. An entertaining humorous film with lots of modern language terms. I particularly liked the dialogue between Will and his 'best friend' where Will's friend tells him he's sitting on the winning lottery ticket but fears collecting the winnings because of the consequences and implications. Maybe that's why many winning lottery tickets go unclaimed - the Hunt is more interesting than the claim - (for some). My theory is: if you are 'Gifted' as Will Hunting clearly was - your destiny has already been predetermined and mapped out for you. You have no choice and no conscious say in the matter because no matter how you try to escape, there will always be somebody somewhere Hunting you down to do better for yourself, and claim your Gifts. 'The World' Is Your Oyster' is the saying - i.e you can pick 'and' choose your destiny but which ever way you turn its green lights all the way. If you are Talented, you have the choice to make conscious/subconscious decisions regarding your Talents and your future. Your destiny is determined by 'your' decisions. Your decision is 'your' world and 'your' oyster. You have amber lights and must proceed with caution - you can even afford to throw caution to the wind and see where the wind blows you. If you are Skilled, you are required to do the bare minimum for yourself, but it will always 'limit' how far-reaching your destiny 'could' be. It will have a knock on effect and limit your future plans. You have red lights and will periodically have to stop, analyse and re-evaluate your life's direction and decisions. The last 20 mins of the film seemed a little rushed or the production team ran out of time and money as much of those last 20 minutes is left to one's own imagination of 'the feel good factor' - that everything went well for Will and he made it up with his girlfriend. It would have been nice to see/meet Will's new boss and see the smile on the girlfriend's face when Will shows up. Thank You!

a friend recommended this to me. its a must see. of course robin williams is comfortable in his favourite role as mentor and after being a life long fan of dead poets society he even topped that. matt damon was great entertainment value and equal to williams. i am so used to seeing him as jason bourne i found this role compelling. what can i say without giving away the entire plot its a hard luck story but i felt it was the supporting actors who made the leads shine, their perspective really hammered home some poignant moments so often overlooked when your so focus on one man's take on things. this film nails it as a basic down to earth hit. i could still believe that this is a real event and also had to get the kleenex out a few times along the way.

I've been a little sceptical when it comes to HighDefin' movies such as Good Will. On the face of it, I'd be saying that HD can't offer anything to it. It's such a staggeringly brilliant movie that relies solely on it's story. The only outstanding performance is from Robin Williams (deservedly getting his Oscar) really but the rest of the cast don't do a half bad job either. As I said, true star, is the story and it will provoke many thoughts for you once the movie is over. What would you do if you were Will, What would you do if you were Will's friends?... Back to the HD scepticism. I didn't think it would have any effect on my enjoyment and during my viewing I was saying to myself things like , 'picture looks good, nothing fantastic though'; 'I haven't really noticed anything special about the sound'. Now, given that I hadn't seen the movie in a few years, especially not on the size TV I have now, I thought I'd pop the old DVD in to have a quick compare. To catchphrase Janice from Friends: Oh My God. If you have the DVD, upgrade now. If you don't have the DVD, buy the Blu-Ray. I will go to the extreme of saying that I couldn't even watch the DVD now. I love the film, and have watched it a number of times since it was first released. This copy was purchased as a gift for one of my sons. Each time I view Good Will Hunting I discover a different aspect of the relationship that builds between Robin Williams' character as therapist, Sean Maguire, and Matt Damon's character, the under privileged but mathematical genius, Will Hunting. Brilliantly acted, all the more poignant since Robin Williams recent death. As a therapist myself I feel that Williams portrayal as Will's therapist is credible and has integrity, as do the altercations between Williams and his emotional and intellectual sparring partner, Will's mathematics professor, Gerald Lambeau (Stellan Skarsgård). There are many 'gems' and for me one of the most moving scenes is in the sequence where Sean tries to convince Will, 'It's not your fault, it's not your fault'. Wonderful stuff!

I do like those apples Mr hUNTING. 1.Preheat the oven to 200C/400F/Gas 6. 2.Sieve the flour and salt into a bowl. 3.Rub in the margarine or butter until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. 4.Add the cold water to the flour mixture. Using a knife, mix the water into the flour, using your hand to firm up the mixture. The pastry should be of an even colour and suitable consistency for rolling. 5.Divide the pastry into two halves. Take one half and roll it out so that it is big enough to cover an 20cm/8in enamel or aluminium plate. Trim the edges with a knife using the edge of the plate as your guide. 6.Cover the pastry with the stewed apples and sprinkle with sugar to taste. 7.Roll out the other half of the pastry. Moisten the edge of the bottom layer of pastry and place the second piece on top. 8.Press down on the pastry edges, making sure that they are properly sealed. Trim off any excess pastry with a knife in a downward motion, again using the plate as your guide. 9.Flute the edges with a pinching action using your fingers and thumb. 10.Prick the surface of the pastry lightly before placing the pie in the oven. Cook for 20-30 minutes. 11.When the pie is cooked it should move slightly on the plate when gently shaken. 12.Slide on to a serving plate, dust with caster sugar and serve.

Not enough can be said about this film. Easily one of the best films to be ever made and probably one of the few films.

Super film Will est un orphelin, qui vit dans une maison ancienne délabrée de Boston Sud. Pour fuir l’atrocité de son passé et la morosité de la réalité, il se réfugie dans les livres, de mathématiques principalement, seule science dont la difficulté lui permet d’être plongé intégralement dans la réflexion et lui permettant d’oublier ce qui se passe au fond de lui. En autodidacte, il s’intéresse aussi à la physique, la chimie, et la médecine. Ses auteurs préférés sont Nietzsche, Shakespeare, Pope, Locke. Il se reconnaît en eux. Mais la grande acuité de Will est portée intégralement par l’énergie de ses frustrations. À 20 ans, Will passe le plus clair de son temps à se battre, à regarder du baseball et à boire des bières dans les bars avec ses seuls amis, Chuckie, Morgan et Billy, amis d’enfance du même quartier. Abandonné toute sa vie, il est très susceptible, et la moindre remarque à son égard est perçue comme un affront. Il rejette tout simplement les autres avant qu’ils n’aient le temps de le laisser tomber. C’est un mécanisme de défense et il est en fait assez asocial. Will travaille au Massachusetts Institute of Technology en tant que balayeur, et il se fait remarquer par le professeur de maths Gerald Lambeau en démontrant successivement de manière anonyme pendant son service, deux théorèmes de mathématiques d’une grande difficulté. Après une bagarre où il frappe un policier, il risque la prison. À la demande du professeur Lambeau, le juge accepte, plutôt que la prison, que Will travaille pour celui-ci, mais à condition que Will soit suivi par un psychologue. Après une longue série de visites infructueuses chez des psychothérapeutes réputés, Will finit par se trouver face à un adversaire à sa taille, Sean Mac Guire, ancien camarade d'études du professeur Lambeau. Un bras de fer commence entre les deux individus qui ont de très nombreuses choses en commun. Sean Mac Guire réussit à instaurer une relation de confiance, en lui parlant de son intimité, de sa femme décédée d’un cancer (il l'avait rencontrée le soir du match des Red Sox de Boston lors de la finale de baseball du championnat de Série mondiale (World Series) qui avait lieu au Fenway Park où Carlton Fisk réalisa un célèbre « coup de circuit » (home run)). Parallèlement, Will découvre l’amour avec Skylar, une étudiante à l’Université Harvard qu’il rencontre dans un bar où il l’impressionne suite à un débat sur l’évolution de l’économie de marché dans les colonies du sud des États-Unis avec un étudiant en histoire à Harvard. Comparé à un autre génie, Srinivasa Ramanujan, par le professeur Lambeau, on lui propose de nombreux postes, dont l’un avec la NSA, l’agence de sécurité nationale. Il les refuse tous. Sean et Lambeau ont alors une violente altercation sous les yeux de Will. Will finit par rompre violemment avec Skylar, accablé par la peur d’être abandonné, quand elle lui demande de partir en Californie avec elle. Bien qu’il en ait conscience, il n’arrive pas à y remédier, face à son lourd passé d'enfant maltraité. Sean le met alors face à ses responsabilités en l'accusant de saboter délibérément sa vie pour éviter toute prise de risque. Chuck, de son côté, confie à Will qu'il ressentirait comme une insulte qu'il continue à perdre son temps avec lui et ses autres amis au vu de ses géniales possibilités intellectuelles. Sean Mac Guire s’est pris d’affection pour Will ; en lui évoquant les tortures qu’il a subies, il lui fait prendre conscience qu’il n’est que la victime de son passé et qu’il n’en est nullement responsable. Sean, qui a lui aussi appris de Will, se réconcilie avec Lambeau et décide de voyager à travers le monde alors que Will part rejoindre Skylar, partie étudier à l’Université Stanford en Californie, avec la vieille voiture bricolée par ses trois amis, cadeau d’anniversaire pour ses 21 ans.

Will Hunting de Gus Van Sant est un chef-d'œuvre. Magistralement écrit et interprété par Matt Damon et Ben Affleck (ils décrocheront l'Oscar du meilleur scénario original en 1998), Will Hunting suit le parcours d'un génie des mathématiques mais aussi d'un rebelle aux élans imprévisibles dont les actions risquent bien de l'envoyer en prison. C'est alors que ses dons sont remarqués par le professeur Lambeau, brillant mathématicien mais qui, dans l'incapacité à gérer le caractère de Will, va demander de l'aide à un de ses anciens amis : le psychothérapeute Sean Mac Guire. Ce film est juste génial et montre tout le talent d'écriture de Matt Damon et Ben Affleck. Magistralement mis en scène par Gus Van Sant, ce film offre également un rôle en or à Robin Williams (absolument magistral) qui décrochera l'Oscar du meilleur acteur dans un second rôle. Fort et touchant à la fois, Will Hunting est un film à voir absolument. Du grand cinéma.

The story is quite shallow for upper aged people. I couldn’t share the kid’s backgrounds.

Der junge Will Hunting (Matt Damon) hat versteckte Talente, die er unter gewalttätigen Handlungen und Sauftouren mit seinen Jungs verbirgt. Er ist einer von wenigen, die ohne große Mühe mathematische Probleme lösen und erklären können, die in einer Nacht ein komplettes Buch lesen können und den genauen Wort laut wiedergeben können. Jedoch macht sich Will nichts aus seinem Talent und verbringt seine Zeit lieber mit seinen Freunden, bis er verhaftet wird und eigentlich ins Gefängnis soll. Doch unter strengen Vorlagen darf er die Strafe als Bewehrung absitzen. Eine der auflagen ist das Er sich einen Therapeuten sucht der ihn hilft seine Aggressionen in den Griff zu bekommen. Dabei trifft er auf den ersten Menschen der ihn intellektuell ebenbürtig scheint Sean Maguire (Robin Williams) und ihn zeigt, dass es mehr gibt als nur Prügeln, Bier und sein Viertel. Soviel zum Inhalt nun kommen wir zu dem, was den Film so unglaublich gut werden lässt und warum er in keiner guten DVD / Blu-ray Sammlung fehlen darf! Nicht nur Matt Damon und Robin Williams, die großartig ihre Rollen spielen, sind an Bord, sondern auch Stellan Skarsgård , Minnie Driver, Ben Affleck und Casey Affleck spielen ihre Rolle meiner Meinung nach großartig und zeigen sich von ihrer besten Seite. Die Geschichte um Will Hunting lebt auch gerade von diesen Charakteren und der hervorragenden Musik im Hintergrund. Das Drehbuch von Matt Damon und Ben Affleck ist so gesehen die Kirsche auf dem Eisbecher, sehr gute Dialoge, die sogar ab und an den Zuschauern selbst zum Nachdenken anregen und sie an diesen Film ganze zwei Stunden an den Bildschirm fesseln. Fazit: Gute Schauspieler die tolle Charaktere zum Leben erwecken, ein Soundtrack passend in jeder Szene, gutes Drehbuch und eine Regie, die hieraus ein Meisterwerk macht. Unbedingt kaufen!
