I recently got the OM SYSTEM OLYMPUS OM-5 in silver, and I’m really impressed! This camera is lightweight, compact, and feels solid in hand—perfect for on-the-go shooting. The image quality is amazing, and the M.Zuiko Digital lens gives sharp, vibrant photos every time. It’s super easy to use, whether you're a beginner or experienced photographer, and the in-body stabilization is a huge plus for sharp, shake-free shots. I also love the flip-out screen for vlogging or selfies. If you’re looking for a versatile, high-performance camera that’s easy to carry around, this one is a great choice!

I bought this camera as it is dust/freeze/sprash proof. Separately I bought 100-400 mm telephoto lens. Photo quality is sharp and I’m impressed.

I bought numerous digital cameras in last twenty years, and all cameras combined didn't have that many dead pixels as this one that I purchased the most recently. This shows just how bad the quality of the camera is. Not just the sensor, but overall: knobs, latches, buttons do not give this robust feeling when handling the camera. Talking about buttons and knobs, there are too many and they are scattered all over the camera. For a small camera like OM-5 the minimalist approach would be a better idea. I use the camera about once a week and in a year I still didn't find a good use for all the buttons. There is another huge design flaw that I never saw it being mentioned before. It is about holding the camera. Forget about holding it with a single hand, because it's impossible to do so without accidentally pressing a few buttons in the process. Among all the unnecessary buttons there is no room to lean the root of the thumb that gives the support when using a single hand. There was so much said about the awful menu system. I don't understand why not fixing something that so many people complain about. With OM System I learned there are PRO lens without manual focus button. I would be ok with that if I wouldn't have to spend time by clicking through menus to turn off auto focus. If I compare it to another 20MP camera that I have from a different brand and for the half price, it has better handling and more solid feel than OM-5. The retro look is unfortunately the only thing I can compliment on this camera. Even with all the various features that is not enough.

I bought this after many months of researching reviews and recommendation for a smaller camera for travel. I am just back from 6 National Part trip, and ready to edit pictures. The camera was excellent on the trip. Easy to carry and shoot. I till have a learning curve with all the settings.

Update: No charger, just a cable to charge in camera, but not transformer, you have to get any phone transformer you have laying around the house, also just one battery, you have to buy more if you want some more juice, because the battery life on this camera is not great as I stated above, but not OEM batteries are cheap and a great option to get a couple of them and get a whole full day of pictures and videos, Also the charging port and data port from this camera is a uses micro-usb instead of Type C connector which makes the charging port ridiculously slow, but anyways in my case I use a proper external charger with 2 batteries at a time saving time and properly charging the batteries for better performance, But I had to share this with you because I think its important to know.

This camera is marketed as a great travel camera, so I bought it to travel around the world. Unfortunately, it totally stopped working a month ago. It is still under warranty, but it turns out there is no way to get it fixed while traveling internationally. After countless calls (often in the middle of the night to accommodate their limited call center hours), online submissions, and emails, I still have no solution. The repair center in the US can't accept packages from outside the country. There are extremely limited places where one can get an OM camera serviced abroad and they don't accept the US warranty. I offered to pay for the repair myself, but still no go. For example, I am in Australia for a month, but the service center says it may take up to 6 weeks to repair and they can't mail it out to another country if it is not done before I leave. Same story when I was in New Zealand. What's the point of a lightweight, "rugged", travel camera if it suddenly stops working and you can't possibly get it fixed while traveling?!? You have been warned - if you plan to travel, get a camera from a company with a stronger international presence, or at least more reasonable customer service options!

This review is coming from a Sony A7 user's perspective. Yes, it's been a long time since the release of the A7 and the OM-5 so of course, this is a big upgrade for me. I've always been in the mindset that full frame is be all, end all and I haven't taken a serious look at Micro 4/3 seriously. At least until I started shooting with the OM-5. I know that there are many reviews out there that OM-5 hasn't made enough advance from its Olympus/OM Systems predecessors and I can't comment on that part. If you're a Sony A7 user like me and looking at OM-5 for your entry into the world of MFT, then you might find this review useful. I'm writing this review after using the camera for a week. I will add to this review at 30 days and 60 days. For the first week, I'm using the OM-5 in manual mode with single-shot AF so that I can compare the experience at 1:1 with how I use my Sony A7. Here are some "quality of life" improvements that I've experienced so far. - A fully articulated touch screen is a HUGE upgrade to the Sony A7 limited articulation screen. - Autofocus is lightning fast compared to the A7. The photo of the bee was captured successfully thanks to the fast autofocus of the OM-5. The bee was actually jumping around a lot but I was able to go from focus to capturing the photo within a fraction of the second between the bee's jumps. - I'm very impressed with the included lens in this kit, the M. Zuiko 12-45mm F4.0 lens. On the lens, there's an inscription that says the close focusing distance is 5" at 12mm and 9" at 45mm. Somehow, I was able to get as close as 4" to the bee at 45mm. All of my full-frame lenses that are not macro lenses have a minimal focus distance of 1ft or more. As far as I know, the M. Zuiko 12-45mm is not a macro lens so I'm quite surprised that I was able to get much closer to the subject. - Going from the viewfinder to the screen is absolutely seamless. My A7 rarely switches to the viewfinder when I put the camera up to my eye and I ended up changing the viewing mode via the menu button. The fact that OM-5 works seamlessly and 100% of the time is a huge quality-of-life improvement for me. Other OM-5-specific features that I've tested so far are auto-focus tracking and in-camera stabilization. Here are some observations. - So far, I have not experienced any lag or misfocus for the AF continuous tracking feature. I was also using it in a fairly low light condition on a none human object. I will have to test this feature out on a fast-moving object and see if it still works ok. - The stabilization is very impressive but it's not 100% perfect. Though coming from Sony A7 with no stabilization at all, I'm still impressed with how well it can keep the footage very smooth handheld. If I need to take out my camera to film something very quickly, I know I would at least have some usable footage. I can't wait to try out the OM-5 with my DJI stabilizer. I'll post a video with the result comparing filming handheld vs the stabilizer gimbal when I update this review. - The lens seems pretty loud when it continuously focuses on the subject in video mode. Given that the in-body microphones are at the lens/body connection, I can see why I'm getting a lot of mechanical noises from the lens when it tries to autofocus. I'll have to remember to use external microphones when I'm filming next time. Here's a bit of my experience going from full-frame to MFT format. So far, I haven't seen any vignetting or chromatic aberration with MFT. Since I can't afford the top-of-the-line full-frame lenses for my Sony A7, CA and vignetting are always something that I have to fight with. Since MFT is cropped smaller than full-frame, the lens (as evidenced by the included 12-45mm lens compared to my lens for the Sony A7 at an equal focal range) is much smaller. I'm suspecting that the cheap full-frame lenses that I've been having trouble with in my Sony A7 would look great and sharp on the MFT sensor. I was also expecting lackluster color and contrast with the MFT format but the OM-5 does a great job with the color rendition and sharpness. I'm going to get some adapters and go through my old lens and see how they hold up on the OM-5. I'll come back and update this review after 30 days with any more findings. As of now, I'm very impressed with the OM-5 and I'm going all in on the Micro 4/3 format.
