Masterplug Three Socket Surge Protected Adaptor with Individual Switches

Looks and feels like a quality item, plus it's Masterplug who actually make proper stuff. It's been fine sitting there with a laptop power supply and a small LED desk lamp plugged in. I switch the laptop PSU off with the switch when the machine isn't plugged in. Then I go to switch it off yesterday and the middle switch, for the laptop PSU, is hot. Shouldn't be hot. I switch it off. The switch action doesn't feel right, it feels soft like the mechanism has failed. I switch it off anyway but the PSU doesn't power down. Check it with the lamp. It stays on when the switch is in the off position. It's hot and doesn't switch off, this means safety hazard. Remove it immediately and quarantine it. Contacted the manufacturer but nothing back yet. Not happy. I expected this to last a lot longer. Won't be buying another one but all the alternatives are not attractive so I have no idea what I'll do next.

I thought I'd purchase the masterplug and try it out, even after reading the warnings in the reviews. I purchased the masterplug so I could have both my toaster and microwave plugged in at the same time, everything seemed okay at first, the 3 red lights were on and the 3 seperate switches were all working fine. I waited an hour to check after plugging in both my microwave and toaster. I went to use my toaster and it just wouldn't work but the light on the toaster was still on, I thought maybe the fuse had gone. I unplugged the masterplug and plugged my toaster back into the main socket, it was working again. I also plugged my gusto coffee machine into the Masterplug and that won't work now. I've not returned the masterplug but I've learnt that in future I will definitely take notice of the reviews.

After having this plugged in to a surge protected 2m extenstion for over a year using ONLY 2 of the sockets, and having never been moved or adjusted in any way, I started to hear crackling over my speakers from the amplifier. Knowing this was electrical interference, and after checking connections, I went to the board to make sure there were no problems, and on the 2nd socket switch, the light was out. The 1st socket switch had the light on. I lifted out the extenstion to have better access to the sockets, and when I attempted to 'SWITCH" the socket switch back on, the think literally exploded...inc sparks abd some flame from where it blew out the switch unit and I'm guessing plastic, shorted the enitre socket fuse circuit in my apartment, and then happilly smoked away! THIS IS A FULL ON FIRE RISK - Should this have happened in a place where no one was aware, or without adequate surge and circut protection, and worse, if this was near ANYTHING that could have picked up a spark...like a christmas tree....it could be catastrophic! THIS IS A DESIGN FAILURE AND CANNOT BE AN UNKNOWN ONE....AMAZON SHOULD REMOVE THIS PRODUCT OR BE COMPLICIT IN WHAT COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH!!!

This is a warning similar to ones that other users posted, plug is a hazard. You both risk electric shock and a fire. I have several of them at home, even if switch buttons are not used, they break away from the unit spectacularly sending them across the room with a nice flash of electric thunder. Other plug also developed the same problem, i.e. button fell off but during the use. These have an inherent manufacturer / design defect where the button pegs break off their fitment.

I bought two of these and one of them simply does not work out of the box. The green light is lit indicating it is protected but the switches do not work. This is making me question the reliability of the other one. Surely these things are tested before they are sent out ? (Edit: After reading other reviews I should of not ordered these . It looks like they are poorly made inside and either end up shorting out or melting & seller is counting on people not sending these pieces of trash back. Absolute garbage)

I bought 3 of these. Two are ok but the 3rd just disintegrated. I had my alarm clock, TP Link and the bedside lamp connected to it. Then one morning the alarm clock was dead. On investigating I found that the middle switch had come off and the spring was found several feet away on the floor. It had come apart on its own during the night. I did email Masterplug but guess what? Still waiting for a response from them. Update 29/01/21: They didn't respond and the 2nd and 3rd purchases had the same problem with the switches. ***DO NOT BUY***

This item is life threatening and should be removed from Amazon. I cannot imagine a very small child playing around this plug, breaks the switch which is very flimsy and the child then inserts their finger in empty space of broken switch. The exposed contact of the broken switch has live electricity, in UK 240 volts which will kill anyone touching the exposed contact. Unless you have a good circuit breaker do not buy this product as the material is very cheap and the switch breaks very easily causing it to be an extremely dangerous product.

2 years later an appliance stops working. I look under the cupboard to find that the plastics holding the rocker switches in place have gone brittle and snapped allowing the switches not only to pop out, but expose the electrical contacts behind them. I stopped in my tracks when I reached under to try and press the switch in a dom light (as I could only see the orange switch indicator wasn't showing.) I would avoid personally.
