It is a case not hard and not soft. Good enough that if dropped it will not damage contents. Hope it helps.

What is internal size of this case, i.e what size of portable hard drive will it hold? And what is the external size, too?

It is around 8x13cm inside and my hard drive is 7,5x11 so plenty of room. The external size is about the same. (i now posted a picture so you can see).

Is this suitable for Toshiba HDTC720EW3CA Canvio 2.5 inch External Hard Drive?

My hard disk is the WD my passport 2,5 inch and it fits very well in the case.As I can understand, your hard disk is exactly the same dimensions with mine,so I think it will fit the case!
