Street Hawk: The Complete Series

The 80's were a great time to watch television. There was such a great diversity which has carried on or varied in the present. As a teenager, there were so many shows to view, one would never claim that there was never anything to watch. Just a quick trip down memory lane for some of us: we had The A-Team, Stingray, The Greatest American Hero, Wiseguy, Knight Rider, Airwolf, Street Hawk, Remington Steele, Hillstreet Blues, St. Elsewhere, Automan. I should stop here because I will just go on & on!! Nonethless, tv was never boring. We had a talking Trans Am, an attack helicopter, a motorcycle with immense firepower & capable of speeds in excess of 300 miles an hour! I would love to see all of this in actuality today! This series, even though short-lived, was quite enjoyable back in the day. It was only available by those sites who claimed to have "public domain" to release them on DVD-R at outrageous prices! I waited patiently over the years that someone would release this officially! & here we are, the complete series with a few extras to help us re-kindle the memories of this series. Great stuff!

This takes me back to my childhood I use to watch street Hawk I wish they would do a updated version of this

As a child that was born in the late 70's . I would wait for every Saturday at 12.30pm and this was shown on ITV. The show was way ahead of it's time similar to Knight Rider , Airwolf, Automan The A Team and Manimal. Kids born during this era had a staple diet of action shows that have mostly disappeared . The bike was beautiful as was the score by Tangerine Dream. My only gripe is on Disc 4 which shows the original pilot episode and has a message of copyright in large letters. Other than that it was an investment and oppurtunity to show my kids what I used to watch before the internet was devised.

Old tv series, that brought back memories, just 13 episodes, as described, well packaged,on time,highly recommended AAAA++++.

While the series "Knight Rider" remains a classic example of 1980s retro TV, it's two-wheeled relative "Street Hawk" remains relatively ignored in comparison. A pity really, as the series has a lot going for it. The 70-minute pilot lays the foundations for this short-lived crimefighting series of only a further twelve, 50-minute episodes. Jesse Mach (Rex Smith) is an ex-motorcycle cop switched to light duties following a serious 'accident' which left him badly injured. Mach is then identified and recruited by a top-secret government department to fight crime while riding the newly developed hi-tech motorcycle "Street Hawk" after receiving an advanced prosthesis. The series is a nod towards the likes of "Batman" and "Superman" in a sense, with Mach now leading a double life - hopping between his office desk & his new secret role as the mysterious crimefighting avenger, with only one person, Norman Tuttle (Joe Regalbuto) aware of his secret identity. Tuttle is the designer of the advanced motorcycle, a shy but warm-hearted computer geek. The motorcycle has a top speed of up to 300mph and is equipped with numerous concealed weapons including machine gun & laser fire, while also able to leap over high obstacles. The rider wears a blacked-out crash helmet which transmits everything seen through the visor back to the secret HQ run by Tuttle. The series has such a 80s feel, with familiar ingredients such as explosive action & gadgets, along with some cheesy dialogue & warm humour. Having missed the series first time round, the characters & performances eventually grew on me, with my fave being Joe Regalbuto's portrayal of Norman Tuttle, who when not finding himself awkward around women, can usually be found sitting in front of his computer screen fretting over his two-wheeled pride and joy. While the series may not be top heavy with Hollywood A-list guest stars, you do get an appearance in the pilot from Christopher Lloyd, who plays a particularly nasty piece of work, while a mullet-coiffered George Clooney also later appears as an assassin. Good fun - good series!.... Mustn't forget to mention the ecstatic theme tune provided by German techno-wizards, Tangerine Dream - fabulous stuff! (The show also brought the band welcome publicity in the US). While there are no subtitles, the picture & sound quality is good though not great. The sound level of the action & incidental music occasionally rises considerably higher than the dialogue, which had me keeping a finger on the volume button of the remote. This dvd came exactly on time. The viewing is great. A good quality dvd

Nostalgia can be a cruel experience. Too often we remember a TV program or sweet from our youth with fond memories; only for them to be shattered by the grim reality when we try to go back - it hasn't aged well (I'm looking at you Knight Rider). Fortunately that's not the case here. The show is still well written, with an incredibly cool main hero - the titular Street Hawk; and possibly the second best TV theme ever (right behind the A-Team). It seems unbelieveable that the show only lasted 13 episodes, I seem to remember it running for years! If you're a fan of 80's tv, or remember this show from your youth, purchase this set with confidence; this show is still as good as you remember it!

Pure nostalgia as you hyperthrust back in to 1985. Takes pride of place on my dvd shelf.

THE STORY: Rex Smith is Jesse Mach, a motorcycle police officer who is wounded and his partner killed by some ruthless criminal types (led by a bizarrely miscast Christopher (Taxi, Back to the Future, etc.) Lloyd. Shortly afterwards, Jesse is selected by a shadowy government agency as the best candidate to pilot Street Hawk, a prototype motorcycle that does 300+ MPH, has lasers, machine guns, can jump 100ft in the air and pretty much does everything but cook dinner and fold the laundry. Jesse gets a secret replacement knee operation to allow him to operate the bike AND use his "injury" as a perfect cover story so that no one will suspect he's the mysterious, 2-wheeled man in black. Unfortunately, Jesse is forced to team up with uber-dork Norman Tuttle, the creative brains behind the super bike. Norman and Jesse of course are initially at odds but soon iron things out and work together to stop criminals who operate above the law. THOUGHTS: Street Hawk is in the same lightweight action/adventure vein as Knight Rider, Airwolf and Blue Thunder. Show's star Rex Smith had good looks & plenty of smooooth charm, but by the time Street Hawk hit the streets the "futuristic vehicle show" craze was running out of gas. And it didn't help that it got stuck in a crappy timeslot either. Thus it only lasted 13 episodes. Too bad. The bike was badass, and the catchy synth score from Europe's techno New Age boys, Tangerine Dream, fit the futuristic proceedings to a "T". I really enjoyed this short-lived series. Joe Regalbutto is a lot of fun as government super-nerd Norman Tuttle. He & Rex have good chemistry together and make an amusing duo: Mach on the bike and Norman keeping everything running behind the scenes, (despite Jesse's inclination to ignore Norman's orders and go rogue every chance he gets. LOL) THE DVD SET: STREET HAWK arrives on DVD in pretty good shape. The picture is decent for an 80's TV show; bright, strong colors and fairly sharp, but there is some pixelation. Audio portion is equally good with no hissing, muffling or dropouts. A few nice extras add to the fun and up the value, including on screen interviews with the 3 main cast members and several promotional, concept art and behind-the-scenes photo galleries. A restoration on Blu-ray would be sweet, but honestly it's just nice to have this obscure, short-lived TV show as a legit release after years of grainy crap-quality bootlegs. This is probably all we'll ever get, so take it or leave it. 5 hyperthrusting STARS for the innocent 80's fun of STREET HAWK. >>>Trivia tidbit: Concept artist Andrew Probert not only did designed the Street Hawk bike, but was also responsible for some of the coolest craft of the 1980's, including the Airwolf helicopter, insignia & flight suits, and the USS Enterprise 1701-D from Star Trek: The Next Generation!<<<

Good show for what i remember. Good dvds. To bad it didn't run for few years. It was only one season.
