What exactly is the material? natural? cotton? man made? viscose? polyester?

Its called chenille velvet. Chenille is made by wrapping fibres around a core thread, it can be cotton, linen, nylon etc, it doesn't say which one is used here, the velvet affect is obtained by incorporating two sheets together and splitting them in half to give the soft touch like the way velvet is made. Its very difficult to explain but the material is extremely strong, the back feels slightly rough to the touch but the front is very soft with just a hint of a pile and a faint silvery fine thread in the weave.

What quantity do I need for a sofa and 4 chairs?

I think I bought 2 meters and it did 2 seat cushions and a back cushion. Hope this helps
