Can this be used on old-style british sash windows (on top where the gap is when you close it)?

I don't see why not as you could stick it to the moving window or the frame at the top. I have used it on double glazed patio doors which I open and close and it has stayed put.

Can this help with soundproffing? My window faces a highway

I guess not because the sounds of the buses, and bikes etc that I used to hear before applying this adhesive foam ...am still hearing them now after applying the foam to the Windows.....

Anyone know how to remove it? Its left pieces stuck to the panel

try pealing off as much as possible then spray sticky bits with WD40 spray? someone suggested this so don't know if it works, let me know if successful :)
