Great album. Sounds good after all these years. :) it awakens feelings from when I was 17. It's nice to remember that time, and the woman I loved listening to this album.

Raw energy from the band and evidently the audience as well. Great line from the band "when you stand on each others shoulders like that the brothers and sisters at the back can't see..." Live rock at its best.

I bought this as a gift .Very pleased to be able to get hold of a copy and even more pleased it arrived before Christmas .

Live Album For good old fashioned rock you can't go far wrong than this album. I purchased it on cd to replace my original vinyl album bought in 1971 which had worn out, and yes, the music still gets me up and bopping!

Excellente musique

Dieses alte Hardrock-Live-Album, welches ich seit der Veröffentlichung im Jahre 1970 kenne (ich war damals 13), geht mir nicht mehr aus den Krallen. Ich besitze noch das alte originale Doppel-LP-Album von Capitol, dann eine spätere LP-Pressung von Capitol, die Japan-Doppel-CD aus den 90er Jahren und nach diesem Kauf zwei digital remasterte CDs. Die erste remasterte CD scheint (gefühlt) den Bach runterzugehen und so brauchte ich für die letzten 20 bis 30 Jahre meines Lebens eine erneute remasterte CD, bevor es diese womöglich nicht mehr käuflich gibt. Denn: Ohne dieses Album ist für mich als Hardrock-Fan ein Leben zwar möglich, aber sinnlos. Die Musik klingt dreckig, verwaschen, kein gestochen klarer Sound, aus meiner Sicht genial abgemischt, direkt von der Bühne auf den Plattenteller. Ein grandios vituoser und übermächtiger Bass, eine teilweise total übersteuerte und gut gespielte Klampfe und sahnemäßige Drums. Die schiere Rockpower auf's schwarze Vinyl gebannt, die ihren Höhepunkt im letzten Stück "Into the sun" findet, was an Power und abgemischtem Sound einer Drei-Mann-Band kaum zu überbieten ist. Das Album beinhaltet des weiteren ein einfaches, aber beneidenswert gutes Gitarrensolo und ein langes Drumsolo, welches seinesgleichen sucht. Da sieht sogar Ian Paice auf dem Japan-Album recht blaß aus... Wer Stücke in Überlänge mag, liegt hier richtig: Vier Stücke der alten Doppel-LP sind länger als 10 Minuten. Jedem, der dieses Album noch nicht kennt und auf die gute alte Hardrock-Musik zu Beginn der 70er Jahre steht, empfehle ich dieses Album, solange es noch käuflich ist. Ebenso empfehle ich die fünf ersten Alben von Grand Funk. Zum ersten Mal habe ich mich für ein Album zu einer Lobeshymne hinreißen lassen, die es mir aber wert ist. Fünf Sterne sind zu wenig, kann aber leider nicht mehr vergeben. Was soll ich weiter sagen als: Freut euch, dieses Album zu besitzen!

First received vinyl around age 10, when album came out. At that time, listening to Tommy, ELP, and Deep Purple Japan made for Live Album to be a harsh experience, due to raw nature of recording, so didn't make my then playlist. Fast forward 50+ yrs, and not having any GFR in CD collection, went a'looking: bought 2 different 'hits' collections, then Red Album, then return to Live Album. The Red Album is a killer 2nd album, and the '02 remaster has extensive liner notes which include recording and engineering intent. THIS helped to understand the raw nature of the live recording...SO, listening to it now in my 60's, I get it. Yeah, rough, distorted, harsh, but as a document of their live show, I can imagine myself there. Interesting, but I had the same experience with the Zeppelin debut CD, with the extra disc of their Paris '69 show: sounds awful (was a bootleg originally?), but if you play it LOUD, you can visualize being there. Cool. Back to Grand Funk, I have a later in life newfound appreciation of their talent. Of the 2 hits CDs I have, I prefer the Capitol Collectors Series (with blue and red stripes): 75 min, and in chronological order. For an overview, highly recommended. Studio album: so far 'Red' is favored (debut and CtH on the way!). But make sure to savor Live Album too!
