(Berklee Methods). The beginning-level book of this comprehensive method teaches a wide range of guitar and music fundamentals, including: scales, melodic studies, chord and arpeggio studies, how to read music, accompaniment techniques, special exercises for developing technique in both hands, a unique approach to voice leading using moveable chord forms, and more. Review: Excellent Guitar Learing Aid - This book & CD combination is a must for all guitar students. It is of great value when you compare the cost of this compared to private lessons. You could teach yourself with this book & the CD makes this possible. But having said that, this book would also be of great use for guitar lessons. The CD has all of the music of all the pieces to be learned - this is not the case with some other book/CD combinations. Review: Very simple - I never was overly interested in learning to read music for guitar, its not exactly a high demand considering most people either prefer to learn by ear or tab. But i thought id go through this book in my own time anyway just so if i ever needed it. Its easy to understand and very helpful. You can go as far as you want to. If you just want the basics you can just go through the first 3rd and that should set you up as far as reading music and translating it onto a guitar.

Great method but not for guitarists new to notation (even with practical experience)
I have been playing guitar for a few years and have a good practical base. I now want to get into jazz guitar and of course that means learning to read notation. For me, this method was to fast paced and dry straight off the bat, i nearly lost motivation. I think this book is best completed with a tutor. But don't fear - I can highly recommend the Mel Bay Modern method for students who our self taught. I am on the second volume of the Mel Bay series now and will be moving onto the Leavitt method later on down the road as it is the superior method - just don't rush it like i tried to do, enjoy the process and start with a funner easier method.

A Great book for teaching guitar sight-reading
The duets are very tuneful but what makes this special is the focus on learning to practise reading notation. So many other books use tab and lots of dot patterns or diagrams so you end up skipping the notation on the stave.

Ogni esercizio andrebbe mandato a memoria.

Great book!
Great book. If you're a beginner, it's better to get a teacher explain some concepts. Nice songs and etudes arranged by Leavitt. Unlike other Modern Guitar method books, this is more inclined towards Jazz guitar playing style. Although you can get enough knowledge from this book which would help you in other types of genre as well. I got book 1 and 2. Book 3 is more advanced concepts. I'm planning to get it in future. If you are going to buy these books, Get the ones that come with audio.
