Sony's Dualshock Grows Up
I have been a PlayStation owner since the launch of the first PlayStation home console in 1995 and have been using Sony's controllers from the original PS1 gamepad through four different versions of Dualshock controllers. When the original PS1 launched in the US I remember distinctly loving the (then) radically designed controller. After sticking to the same basic formulation of that controller for nearly 20 years Sony introduced the Dualshock 4 with the PlayStation 4. -------------------- DESCRIPTION: -------------------- The DS4 is a continuation of the controller designs that have been so successful with Sony's PlayStation consoles. The DS4 builds on previous experience and designs and is really a fantastic, well-built and comfortable controller. The DS4 is larger than its predecessors the DS3 and DS2. The increased size will probably be most noticeable to adult gamers and especially to folks with larger hands. Some of the most common complaints with the previous Dualshock models was the size of the controller. Aside from a larger form-factor the DS4 implements some really nice touches including longer handles and a textured plastic material over the bottoms of each handle and entire back of the controller. This makes holding on to the controller in hectic gameplay moments a bit easier. The face buttons are slightly larger as well and feature matte-finished face buttons (square, triangle, circle and 'X'). The dual analog sticks have also received attention. The convex curvature of the previous controllers has been abandoned for indented slightly concave joysticks. The sticks have also received a grittier rubber finish making them easier to keep your thumbs on. The excellent D-pad has been retains and features crisp and clean button presses. New Additions: The major changes for the DS4 include: ♦ Touchpad: This front mounted touch pad is a really great feature that games utilize in different ways. The touchpad can be used for fine adjustments when moving your fingers across the surface or depresses on each side for more direct inputs. It's a neat feature that hopefully more games will take advantage of. ♦ Built-in speaker. That's right the DS4 gets it's own speaker. It's an interesting option that's taken advantage of in games differently. For example in the game Resogun the speaker is used to communicate direct information to each unique player via their controller. ♦ Share button: The former 'select' button has been replaced by 'Share'. This button is used in a variety of ways and directly interacts with the PS4 firmware to either snap in-game pics, video, or live-stream game sessions right from your controller! ♦ EXT and headphone port: These are built into the bottom of the main body of the controller and used for headsets that connect directly to the controller (like the one included with the PS4) or to charge the controller with the optional charging stand. -------------------- USE: -------------------- I've had my PS4 for almost a year along with two DS4 controllers and absolutely love the controller. It's by far the best that Sony has produced for a PlayStation console. The controller is more comfortable and ergonomic than its predecessors and that leads to less strain on hands. Thanks to the increased power of the PS4 interacting with the console (XMB) via the DS4 is extremely fast and responsive. Contrast this with the PS3 that always featured a bit of lag due to limited RAM resources. Games that take advantage of the new DS4 features are out there and hopefully developers continue to find new clever gameplay elements to implement with the touchpad and speaker. -------------------- WHAT SONY GOT RIGHT: -------------------- (+) Size. The Dualshock finally grows up and will be immediately more comfortable than the smaller DS2 and DS3. (+) Joysticks. These joysticks needed attention. The convex design led to less than ideal control for fine movements and that's been addressed with the DS4s more precise sticks. (+) Share. The ability to take in-game screen captures or video or even livestream gameplay is so incredibly easy and implemented from the onset. (+) Construction. The controller is well-built and even my bundled controller looks like new. You're getting your monies worth here. -------------------- CLOSING: -------------------- Sony's has really created a fantastic controller that addresses common complaints with previous versions and then some. This is a fantastic controller that's more comfortable and better designed than previous versions. Recommended!

Just An Overall Excellent Hard To Beat Quality Official PlayStation Controller
I think this is perhaps one of the best feeling controllers out on the market now for any console. That is my opinion of course, but it is just one of the most well constructed, durable, and comfortable controllers I've ever had in my hands. The buttons on these controllers are slightly stiff in the beginning but then eventually as you play, they break in like a great pair of boots. I absolutely LOVE the color I got. I wanted something different from the traditional black, so I purchased the Glacier White one. In the past PlayStation white controllers were all white I believe but this one has a two tone coloration to it. White on the front and a light gray on the back. It's very sexy. And it also, I think, will prevent the back from getting as grimy looking over time since it is not a flat white. Don't know how else to describe it besides every time I look at it, I think of storm troopers! I'm not going to ramble about this product because most people purchasing an official PlayStation controller already know the caliber of quality to expect. In my opinion these official PlayStation controllers, although pricey are worth the money in how the feel and hold up. I've included a couple pics so you can see what the coloration looks like on the white version that I purchased.

Great Controller Worth the Buy
Works perfectly, best gaming controller out there, Love the ability to plug my headphones into the side of the controller and use them instead of only using a blue-tooth headphone. Touch-pad is amazing for typing and with some games it helps with the functionality and game play is interesting using the motion sensors within the controller. Overall controller in perfect condition and the built in speakers makes hearing specific in-game events and sounds interesting and well built sturdy control. I sometimes drop it or someone else drops it and it still works fine. The color is amazing and though its white it does not get dirty as some people would think. Keys function perfectly and did not have any trouble pairing it with my ps4 just plug and play. Joysticks are well made and not easily broken for actions such as flicking and holding in a direction. and built in speakers make gaming experience come to life in a new perspective as phone calls and private in-game conversations come through the speakers on the controller. Share feature makes this controller amazing as you can share videos, screenshots and mini clips of you game play with the press of a button. No effort needed. The EXT port is also a neat feature used for charging stations.

Minor quality flaws but a huge ergonomic upgrade from the DualShock 3. PS4 owners rejoice!
The DualShock 4 is a huge ergonomic upgrade from the DualShock 3 of the past. This is most notably present when playing games for a long period of time (hence ergonomic upgrade!). I would feel some wrist pains after an hour or so of gaming with the DualShock 3 and it became glaringly apparent after straight days of gaming for an hour or so (when GTA5 came out in my case) that the DualShock 3 was a nightmare when it came to ergonomics. I love using the DualShock 4 now and wish Sony had come up with this design in previous iterations of their controllers for the Playstation. I can use it for several hours and not feel the pain I felt in my wrists with the DualShock 3. The only two real complaints I have about this controller is that after several weeks the R2 trigger button has become a bit "stuck". It's become a bit of a hassle when playing Destiny but not a huge problem as I can still press down but that extra stick definitely shouldn't be there. Also, the coating/plastic around the joysticks seems to be ripping off. There are even third party replacement coatings/plastic as this seems to be a known problem, though mine personally hasn't gotten so bad to the point where I have to replace it yet. With that being said, I love my Glacier White DualShock 4 and got one to differentiate my controller from the controllers that came with the system.

DualShock 4 Is Here To Stay
Playstation has been around for 20 years with 4 different home consoles and 4 different DualShock controllers. As a gamer that uses his playstation everyday I was excited to crack into the new DualShock 4 to see what Sony had to offer. The first thing I noticed when I picked it DualShock 4 was the grip. I wrapped my hand around the controller and it stuck very nice and firm allowing me to make my inputs freely. The buttons are all very resposive and tight including the D-Pad. The triggers are curved, so it makes playing games like Call of Duty and Killzone a lot more easier compared to the DualShock 3 where the triggers and bumpers were all bulky. The analog sticks are the ones that surprised me the most. Compared to the DualShock 3, the DualShock 4's analog sticks has so much more grip and precision. My finger doesn't slip off as easy compared to the previous DualShocks. The great thing about it all is that there are multiple different colors to choose from so I found one that fits my personality! Unfortunately, the battery life of the controller is fairly low only being on around 4-6 hours then needing another charge. With amazing grip, responsive buttons and analog precision it's easy to look past poor battery life with a $49 price tag. The DualShock 4 is here to stay.

PC gaming
Setting the obvious aside, these are now my go to controllers for PC gaming as well. Track pad helps use the mouse on loading screens where devs didn’t implement controller support yet(Fallout 4). Accelerometers can be used to assist aiming a la Nintendo Wii U if you find the right settings in Steam. Speaking of, Steam has native support for the DS4 now. I still find myself using a mapper like DS4 Windows every now and then though. Works both wirelessly through Bluetooth and wired through usb for marathon sessions. Huge upgrade from my 360 controllers which need dongles or hard wired connections to use. Worth the effort to use. Definitely perfect the form factor now. I’ll also mention this is a good midpoint between the 360 controller which is the standard for button mapping, and the steam controller with its infinite configurability. The DS4 controller has almost as many inputs to map to, a better form factor, vastly better build quality, and not quite as steep a learning curve.

Nothing beats the sensation of having something brand spanking new in your hands specially those analog sticks on the dualshock 4 controller. The ergonomic design of the pad feels outstanding and one could easily enjoy hours upon hours of gaming without having any hand strain at all. The glacier white controller is so elegant, owners of a playstation 4 must pick up. The contrast of dark colored buttons against a white vivid white carcass Is simply candy to the eyes. A downside of the color is that it tends to get dirtier than its black counterpart, but with sufficient handle and care this shouldn't be a problem.the price tag at $53 or so dollars is very competitive since I've seen higher prices elsewhere plus shipping. So overall if you're thinking of picking up a second pad or third to game with your budie or gf, go for the glacier white dualshock 4!

Some drawbacks, overall an impressive piece of machinery
Just as good as the black version—but prettier! My biggest qualm with the DualShock 4 is that a charging chord isn't included with purchase, which is saying something, given that the list price for this item is a whopping $60. This wasn't a huge issue for me, as I used this controller as a replacement for my last one, but anyone who doesn't already have a charger or was expecting a second one will be disappointed. I would also like to note that Sony does not cover controllers under their manufacturer's warranty. However, most issues will probably pop up outside of that first year, anyways (for instance, one of my analog sticks started malfunctioning on my last controller after about a year and a half of use). Otherwise, this is an awesome piece of equipment. Like the DualShock 3, the controller is rechargeable, ergonomically shaped, and has controls that all work reasonably well. The new features, the touchpad, the speaker, and the light, can be a bit annoying at times. However, they can also be a great asset to gameplay if properly utilized by the game developer. This really differs on a case-by-case basis.

great
love the DS4. sony have made this to accomodate a typical gamers hand, and L3/R3 are perfect size for the thumbs to fit comfortably, i love the concave thumbs sticks, its adds more grip and less wear and allows your thumbs sit perfectly. the speaker embedded into the controller is a wicked touch scared me first time i heard it on killzone because i wasnt expecting it but it definetly adds a more dynamic gaming experience. the touch pad is really cool, being able to quickly access in game menu's/maps and leaderboards ect. this white version looks amazing, much better than the standard one. great product and great seller, affordable and quick delivery.

Merci.
