I have an old ide media enclosure and want to know if anyone has successfully used the item 'sata drive' with an ide enclosure?

I have one of these installed in an old USB/FireWire enclosure. It works with SATA hard drives and DVD burners.

Will the allow me to connect an lg gsa-h55n ide optical drive (drive end) to a sata port on a asus p5q pro motherboard, so i can disable ide controlle

If your motherboard has only IDE controllers, you may not be able to disable it, unless the MoBo offers this ability in the BIOS. Second, this little interface allows you to connect a SATA HDD via the StarTech adapter which you attach to the SATA HDD, then to a MoBo that has only IDE controllers using the original 40 pin IDE HDD cable connector. Unless others know better. Hope this helps.

For those who used this on an original xbox, was it required to keep the ide power cable connected to the power adapter on the convertor?

Yes, the IDE2SAT2 requires the IDE power to be connected for both the adapter and the drive as the drive power plugs directly into the adapter. Matt, StarTech.com Support

Does it work both ways? ide hard drive to sata motherboard, or will it only do sata hard drive to ide motherboard?

I believe that this adapter only works when connected to a SATA HDD when used used with an IDE source. It connects straight onto the SATA drive, then you connect the old IDE drive 40 pin single connector to the adapter. Haven't tried it any other way.
