From a New York Times bestselling author, a guide to restoring good bacteria to your gut — and keeping y our microbiomes happy and healthy. Because of our highly processed diet, pesticides, and overuse of antibiotics, our guts are now missing so many of the good bacteria that we require to be healthy. As a result, many of us have lost control over our health, weight, mood, and even behavior. With cutting-edge research, Dr. Davis connects the dots between gut health and modern ailments such as SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth), a silent and profound epidemic, which affects one out of three people and is responsible for an astounding range of human health conditions. Super Gut shows us how to fix your microbiome once and for all. It includes more than forty recipes, a diet plan, and resources so you can pinpoint your gut issues, correct them, and maintain your long-term health and well-being. Review: game changer for health and wellness, just focus on your microbiome before all else - I am big on supplements, always have been. But one thing I rarely bothered with has been probiotics. I just figured I didnt need them as my poops(I have dogs, I love that word) have been fine. I get lots of fiber. But at some point within this year i began sniffing around probiotic supplements. I was drawn to them after trying to figure out some health stuff. I eventually made my way over to this book. I have learned A LOT. Between this book, and watching a lot of YT videos, I have come away with a greater understanding of just how important probiotics are, that there are different types of probiotics and different strains of each. That probiotics NEED prebiotics to feed from. That probiotics are truly the foundation to our overall health and sense of wellness. AND THAT, if no other supplements it is PROBIOTICS I should be focusing on. They moved to the top of my list. Forget (nearly) all else unless my body microbiome is in good shape. I KNEW THIS on some level, but did not fully put the pieces together. Between mental health and physical health, the microbiome-- all the critters that live in us-- seems to be steering the ship. We treat them well, and they do wonderful things for us. I knew all health begins in the gut, but this info just made it make sense and put it into explanations that helped me see the how and why. I was like, AH HA, I was onto something and now I have solid info to work from. Now when I think of everything wrong with me, everything right with me, and I learn of others ailments and such. I wonder.. how is their microbiome? Drink that kombucha, eat FERMENTED foods, make your own yogurt (easy peasy), pop those capsules! Now all that being said, I dont drop everything that I am doing and just follow what one person says. I have not adopted the "wheat belly" protocol of his (Have yet to read but understand it enough), nor have I made any major changes. Diet and activity level are the same (but more on that later). I just started increasing consumption of probiotics (all sorts, various strains, daily), prebiotics (foods, supplements), and started dabbling in fermented foods and making my own yogurt (L. reuteri). I have only barely begin with making my own yogurt, uh hem, cultured dairy product.. but I am all in. Just search for videos on this particular probiotic, and it will likely make you want to take these probiotics and maybe make your own super charged yogurt. I also really like akkermansia, gasseri, and a few others. In the relatively short period of time that i have been consistently taking a variety of probiotics, there have been changes to my microbiome. I know it because I have a couple of measurable factors. One is which is my oral flora. SOMETHING has changed because I went from life long issues (despite OCD level hygiene) to having entirely normal dental situation. DECADES of always at or on the cusp of bad things. So much so that I get checked out by dentist every 3-4 months since i was a teen (now late 40s). My last visit we scheduled a "deep cleaning" (mega scraping deep under gums). So, just after that, maybe within a month, I happened to start probiotics. Mostly Previtalize and Provitalize plus I added in Akkermansia, and my beloved reuteri , and sometimes others. I actually STOPPED using listerine, and flouride toothpastes (im not against flouride, it does different things than what I am looking for at this time), and swapped to hydroxapatite based toothpaste (I had used that before, so Know just that changes hasnt made the impact). I did stop the other two things because I wanted to give my mouth a break from antibacterial type products. I wanted something that would help good bacteria and not wipe it out. But that has been VERY recent so again, not enough impact, yet probably helped. Then I just had my appointment. EXCEPT, as they began their exam the changes were so noticeable (through imaging, tools, and visual hands on) that the "deep clean" wasAborted. NO tartar (can you imagine?), not even plaque. Healthy gums, tight gums. They said, "I'm looking at someone with a very healthy mouth". Then proceeded to ask what I was doing different. I had to bring up intense intentional probiotic use. They were on board with my holistic approach. OK, other changes. I feel more alive, and less--Anxious. Energy? definitely a lift. Not bouncing off the walls, but not flat out on the couch. I have a little more oomph. That'll take time, especially as I am severely overweight. Oddly, I am already fairly active and eat well. I just eat a lot. Speaking of, I didnt set out to lose weight, and so I have no measurable data for that. But I see a change in my belly. It has deflated some. I can see it in my face too. Maybe that is what sort of started this all. I see all this GLP-1 use, and I dont want to look like how some of my friends do after being on it for some time (shots). They are thinner, but they are haggard. Like the life is being suckedOut of them with each pound. Very startling. Then I learned that GLP-1 naturally occurs in body and that there are ways to support it, to help it make more. There are many things, but one of those happen to be the PROBIOTIC akkermansia. From there on out I just sought to learn more and more. Which the algorithm of YT brought me content from and about Dr Davis. Very accessible, very straightforward, feel like I could have a great convo with him as he seems that approachable and affable. Few spots I question, but otherwise has been good info for me. I intially read this through Kindle Unlimited, then found myself wanting a hard copy to refer back to. So I bought it and here I am. Maybe I will add more info as I experience more. Good bad or not. But really, read the book but perhaps watch a bunch of YT vids to see if it is something of interest (it should be!). Marys Nest has a great interview with him. Review: Essential health info, well written, fascinating! - A great book and affordable so we can all benefit. A book for us to read and share! This is another example that Dr Davis truly cares about people and their health and sharing his sleuthing abilities to find answers to health issues, brilliant processing of the clues, testing to be sure, and years of training and experience.

Feel Better from the Inside Out - the Power of Super Gut
I've been interested in gut health for a while and have watched tons of videos about the microbiome, so I wasn’t expecting to learn so much from this book—but I really did. Dr. Davis explains things in a way that’s easy to understand but still goes deep into how certain microbes can impact everything from digestion to sleep, mood, skin, and even emotional well-being. What really stood out to me was the focus on L. reuteri—how it can promote compassion, improve sleep, reduce bloating, help with skin health, and even speed up healing. I’ve been making the 36-hour L. reuteri yogurt and sometimes add L. gasseri, and I’ve already noticed some great results. The tips on using Saccharomyces boulardii to make a fizzy, probiotic drink were also fun and easy to try. Super Gut offers a clear, practical plan to rebuild your gut by reprogramming the microbiome through diet and lifestyle changes. It shows just how essential a balanced gut flora is—not only for digestion, but also for mental clarity, mood, sleep, and immune health. The book does a great job explaining the gut-brain axis and how closely our mental and physical health are connected to what’s going on in our microbiome. We often hear the phrase “we are what we eat,” but it’s more accurate to say we are what our microbiome breaks down and helps us absorb. These microbes don’t just help us digest food—they produce enzymes, extract nutrients, and even generate vital compounds like B2, K2, and neurotransmitters like dopamine. When we feed them well—through whole foods, an active lifestyle, and a positive mindset—they return the favor in powerful ways. If you're curious about how to apply this knowledge in daily life to support real, lasting health, this book is a fantastic place to start.

Heal Your Microbiome, Heal You Life! (But Coconut Milk Recipe Is MESSED UP)
The emerging research on how specific microbial partners in our guts profoundly affect our health is exciting and fascinating. This book introduces the idea of restoring a more diverse inner ecosystem NOT by taking probiotics, but by fermenting those probiotics as yogurts and other ferments to explode their population numbers for much greater efficacy (and economy). I got this book when it was hot off the press and have been making all the different yogurts for months now. I can honestly say that I feel better, even though I'd already been on a very "clean", 100% organic, low carb, no-sugar-or-grains diet for many years now. Since adding the ferments to my diet my energy has improved, my skin is clearer, and some inflammatory issues have resolved. For other reasons than the A1 protein thing, I have to avoid milk, so I've been using coconut milk instead. Now the dairy-based recipes are fine... my husband has been making them and lovin' them. However, even though Dr. Davis says that the sugars (and proteins for that matter) get broken down and digested by the bacteria, in the coconut milk recipe as printed in the book they are extremely problematic. They cause the yogurt to expand up out of the jar (even when given 1 1/2" of headroom), and the finished product always ends up with a pink/green mold or yeast on top. And after scooping that off, the yogurt below is sickeningly sweet. We use a calibrated sous vide at the exact recommended temp, we sanitize everthing in boiling water before starting (and then let the jar, lid, & utensils cool before starting), are very gentle at the end when adding the probiotic, and yet we got this consistently bad result over and over. Here's how we fixed it: 1) use TWO cans of coconut milk, not one (I think that is a misprint in the book - all the other recipes call for a quart of liquid, not a pint, which is one can). 2) omit the sugar completely - the inulin or raw potato starch is all the bacteria need for food. 3) after whizzing the coconut milk and powders together, which makes it all foamy, pour it in your sanitized quart jar and let it sit for half an hour or so, gently stirring occasionally with a whisk to get the bubbles to surface and dissipate. 4) when the surface is free of bubbles and the temperature is right, add the probiotic and gently mix it in slowly with the whisk. 5) Now coat the surface by pouring a thin layer of coconut oil on the top to keep the surface from contact with air, which solves the mold problem. (If your coconut oil is solid, warm it above 75 degrees and it will reliquify) I bought some fabulous stainless steel lids with 100% silicone liners off Amazon (no BPA), and I put these on very loosely to let any gasses escape. Seems like a lot of work, but once you get the process down it doesn't take that long and the results are worth it. Photo is of a coc milk L.reuteri culture that did NOT have a coconut oil "seal" on the top.

Fascinating read
Dr Davis does a great job of explaining how the gut microbiome works and how you can reverse the damage the modern lifestyle has done to yours. The book is super informative and gives good guidance for moving forward toward a more healthy gut.

Changed my life
The multi-strain yogurt he explained how to make at home, totally calmed my intestines and changed my life. This book is an excellent explanation of the prevalent hidden epidemic of gut dysbiosis. This book should be required reading in every grade-school health class.

Super Gut is Hard to Digest but Worth the Read
While it contains excellent, potentially lifesaving, information, the repetition and poor organization make Super Gut a difficult book to digest. It seems more like separate writings were compiled to make the book and there are many pre-rambles, my new word to describe all the references to the main message to come. The really great part about Super Gut is it describes how gut imbalances happen, how they are behind inflammation and a host of maladies, and how to fix it with diet and probiotics. I expect to try more of the recipes, but already, the L. reuteri yogurt is very easy to make and incorporate into our diet, so hopefully, given more time, we will realize the purported benefits others achieved. Some of Dr. Davis’s advice, I am taking with a grain of salt, especially no grains, while he admits ancient grains have different genetics and are well tolerated by many with gluten intolerances. In getting our diets back as close to God given foods as we can, my take is bread made from sprouted ancient grains, like einkorn or barley, are enjoyable in moderation with valuable nutrients to contribute and should be included in a balanced diet. I also think it’s a bit of a miss to think fixing your gut will naturally get rid of parasites and not recommend getting checked, given new information showing parasites are behind some cancers and MS, and in light of all the people who have pets, work in the garden, or eat sushi. If you are trying to improve your health, I do highly recommend wading through Super Gut book for the excellent information it contains.

Super Gut
A very useful book to help restore the gut micro-biome to a healthy balance; 70-80% of our immune system stems from the gut micro-biome and it is essential to maintain this via a good diet.

A Perfect Gift to Humanity…
A masterpiece/triumph beyond any words. Never in my wildest dreams, I dreamt that I would find—by serendipity—a seminal treatise of such magnitude as this book in particular that contained—in one place—all the information I desperately was seeking about the gut—with everything that related to it—in the long run; but, never could find in one place—anywhere. For the life of me, I just cannot put this book down and leave it alone for awhile! I had to wait 40+ years for this book of Biblical proportion and beyond to appear from nowhere in my humble life! I can now fully understand how gut-brain pathway is so vital/important to our overall health and outlook toward our lives especially during these difficult times—ie, post COVID, and beyond. Thank you so much Dr Davis for sharing your timeless cutting-edge knowledge and wisdom with us. You are a man of honour; and then some. The information about SIBO/SIFO/FODMAP/IBS/IBD/Microbiota etc in this book is absolutely invaluable beyond anything that I had hoped for to find anywhere, at any time. It has changed my outlook toward life forever. It has given new dimension/hope/tools that I was not aware of before this book that existed out there somewhere unreachable. Gut health and the Microbiome/Microbiota are THE new frontiers in medicine and beyond to get excited about in the long run. Dr Davis, I—for one—salute and offer you my profound gratitude/appreciation for giving us your priceless G. I. F. T. The timing of the release of this book during these unpredictable/painful times in our lives nowadays could not have been any better. Just perfect—if I may say so. Thank you. Greatly appreciated your sense of humour throughout the pages of this book. Thank you again. You are a person of the highest integrity and conviction. Your incredible book has taken my breath away that I had never before imagined. I cannot thank you enough for the vital information you have shared with us herewith. Similarly, I cannot wait long enough for your next book—whenever that may suddenly appear in my life as well! In closing, I send you love, peace, tasty food, incredible yoghurt, forever health, and all the green lights going forward. You have inspired me beyond any word that I could possibly muster here. Thank you so much. Stay safe forever, ;^o
