Is this item BPA free and safe to store childrens clothes directly in??

I don't think this is a BPA free tote, as the BPA free plastic is usually used for food storage. I would recommend searching for the sterilite totes. Literally search for the terms "bpa free storage tote" on google. I personally found the sterilite ones that are BPA free at my local walmart starting at $7 each. It would be advisable to go to a Local store (if able) and read the labels yourself rather than rely on the (sometimes inaccurate) listings on places like Amazon and eBay. The item in question would probably be great for outer clothing (like coats) if you washed this Plano Footlocker out with some warm water with dawn dish liquid and thoroughly rinsed it with water and let it dry before use. But if BPA is a major issue, look for a different container.

It's only like 3 feet wide and 18 inches high. It will fit in your tiny trunk. If your car can fit 2 people side by side in the front, then you can fit this plastic foot locker in the trunk.
