SMALLRIG Ball Head Mount (2 Pack) - 2059

Solid, well built and finished to a high standard. This was purchased to mount to my Canon 600D hotshoe which then holds a Joby phone mount to give use to the DSLR Controller app and has done that very well. I was a little worried about the quality of the Hotshoe plate and damage to the camera over time, looking at other similar priced items the plates always looked rough but this one has a very good and durable finish. Pro's- Price, very competitive On prime, always a good thing Solid and well finished, all components are well produced, paint finish is excellent Use, mounts very well to the Hotshot, thumb screw is just the right size to get a solid grip but not too big it gets in the way. Cons- and the only one i can nit pick are as others have said the ball does not move as smooth (when minimal grip is set) as say a manfrotto ball head out of the box however some dry silicone lube corrects this. Once nipped up its very solid, Ok I'm only mounting light kit to it but i would not hesitate to use it in other applications, The less polished finish of the ball head i feel will give better grip over a highly finished ball head over time so to be fair this may be an advantage?.. Will defiantly get a few more for speedlites and so on.

I recently bought a couple of LCD panels for doing macro-photography and in no time the ball-head broke. So I bought these SmallRig units, because I've been happy with other products from them. These are so much better than the ones I received with my LCD panels. They tighten very decisively and feel secure. My only criticism is that when you release the tension, the whole thing moves freely. It is a little fiddly to position everything how you want it because there are so many planes of motion. BUT= I am still very happy that I bought these mounts. They hold my lights securely and the package of two units is excellent value for money. I would definitely buy them again and am happy to recommend them.

Very good product for the price. The reason I have put 4 stars is because I have a small issue with the knob on the side. I removed the bottom part and I connected it with the plate of my tripod. When I try to tighten up the knob on the side, it seems to touch the plate 1 or 2 levels before full strength and I cannot fully tighten it up. I have never lost stability so far. It doesn't bother me too much because i use my phone on it and it's working fine. I don't know if it will hold heavier items the way i use it.

The item arrived quickly and in perfect condition. There are two main uses for it: 1. To convert a static tripod mount to one that will rotate right to left and up and down. 2. To allow accessories to be mounted on top of a camera via the cold shoe adapter and for those accessories to then be directed in any direction. I have used it in both situations and it does the job...but I now mainly use it to convert the large tripod I got with my soft-box lighting kit to an additional flexible camera tripod...which saved me money! Overall it's a great item and I highly recommend it. It is something that all photographers/videographers should have in their gear bag.

I ordered this for use with a BlackMagic Video Assist 4K, which at 928g with batteries is a quite heavy piece of kit to hold on a single balljoint support. I did wonder if it would be up to the job, but I must say it has been very satisfactory. The SmallRig 761 has not shown any tendency to work loose in use so far in the time I have used it. It can be set at a wide range of angles and stays put and, importantly, I have found it possible to make very subtle adjustments to the tension so that it can 'give' rather than break off the camera coldshoe in the event of someone colliding with the Video Assist. For such a compact and inexpensive device, it is excellent value for money, and when used with care gives secure support for expensive accessories.

It's OK but the locking wheels can be very stiff to loosen it they've been installed for a while, I would have preferred them to be a little wider (especially the lower one) to allow better grip. Seems build to last but could just be a tony bit more user friendly.

This is an excellent piece of kit. I've used it to attach my Zoom H5 to my DSLR for well over a year now. It hasn't worn or detoriated in any way during this time. I like the way I can tilt the head so that I can have my Zoom looking right at me without having to raise my head. In terms of value for money it's hard to go wrong with this little device. It's also easy to pull it off and on when in the field. I would highly recommend this item. It's stil going strong now after a lot of use (which has surprised me somewhat considering the low price).

I purchased this product not to use with a monitor, but to use with my digital SLR on a custom built frame. For my application, the camera doesn't need to be moved all that often so I just needed a secure holding ball head and a method to fix it to my frame. This product offers two options: 1) the hot shoe attachment, and 2) a 1/4" screw thread, which is perfect for what I need. Both can be removed from the ball head if need be. The ball head supports the weight of my camera just fine with a standard 18-55mm lens. It's a useful little accessory.

Works as intended, build quality seems good! Cheap but reliable

It’s sturdy, holds well, and doesn’t slip too easily. Won’t carry much weight but not really meant for that and it carried my small lights / phone very easily.
