Do you think you could put this on a deck underneith a fire pit that is raised off of the ground? (to protect deck, or would the fire pit be too heavy

i put mine under a small fire pit to protect deck, but it is on the deck floor. not sure if it would hold a fire pit up in the air too thin

Can this be used on the wall behind a stove?

Yes, that is what it is for, and also under stove. Haven't installed mine yet, but that was my reason for purchase.

can you set a wood stove on this?

I put a small wood stove on mine. I mounted one on the wall to protect it then, because the stove was so short, I made an apron out of 2 x 10's then laid a layer of fire bricks on top then put another one of these on top and set the stove on top of it. I sleep very well at night with the stove fully loaded.

why is this indoor only? i am looking for something to put under my charcaol grill on a wood deck?

No. I bought mine for outdoor use to be hung vertically against a vinyl fence a few inches from the gas grill. While I have not yet installed it as intended it has been outside for several months exposed to the rainy and hot Florida weather without any sign of deterioration therefrom. I think it would function well on the wood deck.
