Great product for its price!
I’ve used a different color-depositing mask before, but this one really impressed me. It gave my hair a rich, beautiful tone and left it soft and shiny. Just a small note for anyone using it for the first time — when applying, the mask may look a bit greenish in color (even though it’s not green in the jar!). It can also leave a slight tint on the scalp, so I recommend gently washing your scalp with shampoo after rinsing it out. Don’t worry, the hair itself doesn’t turn green at all. Overall, it toned my hair evenly and looks great. Definitely worth it for the price!

Make sure to do a test strip and watch for dupes.
This turned my hair greenish. When I opened it, the color looked "off", so I tested a small strip of hair first. It WAS off. I have bought the same color of brown before ans loved it. I ended up stretching what was in my old container and have gone back to ordering directly from overtones website. This is the 2nd time I've had an issue with an Amazon ordered Overtone product, and I won't order them here again.

Works great for toning grey hair
I am the target customer for this color. I use the overtone chocolate brown to blend my salt and pepper hair. however, as the brown fades, it turns the gray stripes a really unpleasant yellow - almost greenish - color. I got the dusty magenta as a color correction for this. The untouched grey parts are now a bright silver, the faded brown sections are an ashy blonde and my natural dark brown is richer and less faded. Not a hint of magenta anywhere.

Made my hair patchy and green...
I ordered the chocolate brown one too get me back to brunette after being blond for a few years. I put a red dye on my hair first to fill in the color but you wouldn't be able to tell. This stuff refused to cling onto certain parts of my hair even after Olaplex and protein treatment. My hair has a yellow-green tinge in it now and I'm going to have to get my hair professionally fixed now. I couldn't be more heartbroken, I used to trust this stuff but I will never use this again.

Chocolate Brown WARNING about staining
My grey hair is not white or silver, it's blondish. My natural color before I went grey was an auburn (reddish brown). I figured I'd have fun with it by experimenting with color, but I didn't want to pay a professional to have to redo it every few weeks as the roots come in. These wash-out tints seemed like a great solution: low cost, low risk. A $32 tub of chocolate brown lasted two full applications (my hair is past my shoulders). My hair did not seem to absorb all the color. It came out a gorgeous golden brown. However, as it washes out, it turned pinkish-orange. My sister calls is "creamsicle," which is VERY bright. It has been almost 5 weeks, and I'm still struggling to wash out the orange streaks, especially in my bangs. I figured I'd warn people that although the main color you applied does fade with each washing, they still can stain your hair. I'm not sure this is ever going to completely come out....

Consistent product
I've used Overtone in the past and liked it, except for the kinda high cost compared to lasting power. But, that was for the fun colors - reds and purples. I have shoulder length, very thick, wavy/curly hair. I got balayage highlights a couple months ago, they just weren't done by the same person who did them previously and the result was less lightning more dirty dishwater. I had zero interest in paying another $400 for an additional session. So, started looking for options to maybe not permanent dye back to dark, but give myself a break from looking at it every day until I had a better plan. I was looking into learning how to dye with henna but I'm a renter and didn't want to risk creating a big staining incident. So, recalling pleasant experience in the past with Overtone, I searched it out. Found this lovely chocolate color, spent some time looking for possible dupes, watched review videos of dupes, and opted to just go with the product I've had good results from previously. Glad I did. Really loving this chocolate brown. After one treatment I've definitely got enough for maybe 2-3 additional rounds. I personally enjoy the scent, it's a refreshing minty herbal smell that triggers some distant childhood memory I can't quite recall. Anyway, ya. Price is a bit of a surprise. I'd feel inclined to give rave reviews if the price point were closer to $20. But, the brand is consistent, and depending on hair length/thickness, you'll get more than one treatment. So, might be worth it.

Gave luxury shine to my hair
I colored my hair with medium brown henna to help strengthen it. The only problem was that my color looked dull. I tried this product in espresso brown (kept on for 15-20 minutes) and wow. My hair is just so glossy and luxurious looking now. This is high end salon quality stuff that I can do at convenience of my home. I recommend if you have a special event to go to, do the color the night before to maximize the glossiness. I have super fine Caucasian hair that gets oily quickly so I have to wash it daily, therefore I need to apply this weekly. Compared to chocolate brown, I feel like you need less of espresso brown to tint hair and still have same effect. I also love that this product removed the awful henna smell from my hair. I am very sensitive to smells and this product is a major win for my nose. It took me a while to rinse out the product and I ensured to wash it with cool to slightly warm water. When I dried my hair with a towel some of the color came off on towel so I was worried it would stain my pillow and clothes, but it didn’t happen!

Don’t waste your time
Doesn’t cover gray hair very well well- stains skin more than colors hair. Better to use a non-permanent hair color.
