EVIL DEAD RISE marks the return to the iconic horror franchise, written and directed by Lee Cronin (The Hole in the Ground). The film stars Lily Sullivan (I Met a Girl, Barkskins), Alyssa Sutherland (New Gold Mountain, Vikings), Morgan Davies (The End, Storm Boy), Gabrielle Echols (Reminiscence) and introducing Nell Fisher (Northspur). Moving the action out of the woods and into the city, EVIL DEAD RISE tells a twisted tale of two estranged sisters, played by Sullivan and Sutherland, whose reunion is cut short by the rise of flesh-possessing demons, thrusting them into a primal battle for survival as they face the most nightmarish version of family imaginable. EVIL DEAD RISE is produced by long time franchise producer Rob Tapert (Ash vs Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe) and executive produced by series creator and horror icon Sam Raimi and cult legend and “Ash” himself, Bruce Campbell. Extras Exclusive audio commentary with director Lee Cronin Lee Cronin's short film Ghost Train Review: Great movie for horror fans - One of the most fun horror movies I have watched, has no slow parts and has good jump moments Review: A Modern Cult Classic - This is, by far, the most scariest and most entertaining new Horror Movie. It is more frightening than Terrifier and I want to stand and applaud and salute the all-female cast. I felt so sorry and sad for the first victim, namely the elder of the two sisters. The entire movie is full of good scenes. I love the beginning when the first possessed begins to quote Wuthering Heights and comes out to take over the others' souls. I also loved when the eldest sister comes back from the lift and tries to get back to normal, and enters the kitchen and smashes eggs into the pan and flies out of the bathtub onto the ceiling and crawls around on and the walls. I love when the family merge into one. It is the Evil Book of the Undead that is playing, through the chants on the record. For me, the best performance goes to the eldest sister. I really cry for her because she is the mother of those children and she even says as she enters, in whispers, "It...it's not me." but is overpowered and how the younger sister tries to bring her back and cries for her. A true loving family wrecked by those evil dead spirits. The best Horror Film I have ever seen in my life. I have my own book coming out this Halloween and now feel so proud to have written stories like this particular one.

Fun, if flawed sequel/soft reboot
I'll start by saying this film is fine. If 1/10 is awful, 10/10, is perfect, 5/10 is average, this is a solid 5 or 6/10. It has the spirit and inspiration of the Raimi films, but relies a little too heavily on CGI for my liking, but hey, apparently that's cheaper than practical effects these days. Even though it looks worse as CGI artists are under increasingly stupid deadlines and decreasing wages as Hollywood seems intent on imploding under it's own grandiosity, there's enough body horror in here that looks realistic to make it a squirmy watch. I can't really fault any of the actors in this film, everyone does what they need to and several are a joy to watch. It's shot very competently, the colour palette is fittingly unnerving, and the score, while not hugely memorable, supported the action really well. My main complaint was that this film could just have been... better... All of the individual ingredients are "fine," good even, but somehow the result is just that, fine. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed this film, I watched it 3 times in my rental period, but somehow it just didn't wow me. It just seems to lack that self aware Raimi magic. It didn't need more gore, that was fine. It didn't need more charismatic actors, they were good, most, really good. It didn't need better music, at times it was great. It didn't need better cinematography, it was bloody nice at times. But it still felt hollow somehow... Please, horror fans, watch this with a beer and some friends, it's fun. But when compared to the original Evil Dead films it's a pale comparison, but a bloody try. It's a good watch, but the Evil Dead name carries certain expectations, and this is a good attempt - would I have enjoyed it more without the name attached? Maybe. My criticisms would be the same, I think I just expect a bit more with the Evil Dead name attached. But hey, Hollywood in general is on the decline these days, big budget films are losing money, let's hope that smaller films like this start to gain some more traction. Rent it, watch it, enjoy it. it's completely "fine."

Awesome nastiness.
I thoroughly enjoyed this. Looks and sounds great in 4k and Atmos. I have the nasty 2013 'Evil Dead' version and will upgrade to this format too (if available). Love a decent nasty.
