How do they work?

I use several dozen of these in the 6" and  9" inch sizes to fix and tension a 16' x 9' outdoor movie screen on a metal frame. They are doubled and function under considerable tension. While in place the 6" bungees remain at more than 80% of their maximum length. The 9" are used at about 65% of their maximum length The screen usually goes up and comes down in the span of 1 or 2 days. However, the screen sometimes remains up for more than a week or so.  I have now used them for eight screenings and they remain as strong and nearly as stretchy as when new. You could say that they work great.

Question 3

What is the real length of the bungee and how much stretch?  Previous answers contradict.  Is a 6" bungee ball to ball or is it really 12"?

My guess is, it depends on how the bungee is being used.  If one is using it to stretch the entire unit around an object, (much like a rubber band is placed around a rolled newspaper), the "ball to ball" length, ( measured in it's passive state and then it it's fully stretched length ),would be in accordance with the 12" rating.( Note: The "ball lock / anchor" feature is really of no use in this application.)  -  -  -- Otherwise, given the intended "ball lock / anchor - fastener" key feature of the design, the same rules  would apply to the 6" minimum rating instead.  Based on this key feature of the design, ( which is the ball anchor / fastener ), it seems to me that the advertised  6" specification is correct accordingly. Note: Using the 6" specification, my bungee has a "minimum" stretch of 6". The approximate "maximum" was 14".  Using the 12" specification, using it as a "newspaper rubber band", it will contain a minimum circumference of 12" and a maximum circumference of 28" accordingly.

Is the length from the ball to the top of the loop 6" or is the full bungee 6" (3" total length because it is folded in half)?

It is 6" plus 6" back to ball, so more like a 12" bungie, but when you double back for the loop around the ball it ends up being 3".
