Japanese language, English subtitles, all 39 episodes in 1080p high definition, region A discs. Following an accident in the Himalayas, Akira Fudo’s body has been taken over by none other than the fearsome demon, Devilman. However, upon living with the Makimura family, Devilman has come to find himself rather fond of humanity - even if it means getting roughed up by his girlfriend, the Most Dangerous Miki Makimura for acting out, much to the Demon Lord Xenon’s dismay. Wishing to kill the traitor, Xenon begins unleashing a series of cruel, grotesque demons unto Earth, and only Devilman stands between them and humanity’s demise. Can the reluctant hero save his soul while keeping the city and his secret identity safe? Devilman is an unforgettably dark, twisted melding of the superhero and devil genres and lightened with a perverted sense of humor. Created by legendary manga artist Go Nagai (Mazinger Z, Cutie Honey), Devilman first aired on Japanese TV in 1972. This set contains the first U.S. Blu-ray release of the entire 39-episode series, in 1080p high definition, uncut with the original Japanese audio and English subtitles! Review: This show would scare parents in a censorship way today - 1972 Japan had a special escape for cartoon watchers in the Devilman TV series. The return on my purchase of this blu ray set is the continual gift of surprise that these episodes slay down with macabre delight. Even with the occasional filler episode I press play with an anticipation reminiscent of my childhood cartoon escape. I'm halfway thru the 39 episodes and I want more. For me it's too weird and non narrative to bing watch, but having that next half hour-ish episode cued up is a treat to drop on myself when I am ready to be a kid with welcome invitation into a demented dimension of fairy tale logic. Review: Devilman - Awesome!
