Easy to Use and Perfect for DIY Projects
The XLW 16MB push-button sound module works great and is very easy to set up. Recording audio was straightforward, and the Type-C connection made transferring and managing recordings simple. The sound quality from the built-in speaker is clear and loud enough for small projects and displays. The push button responds well and feels durable, making it ideal for DIY projects, personalized greeting boxes, holiday crafts, or gift surprises. Having up to 16 minutes of recording time provides plenty of space for custom messages or multiple recordings. Everything worked as advertised right out of the box, and the compact size made it easy to integrate into my project. Overall, this is a solid, user-friendly sound module that delivers great value for creative and personalized builds. Highly recommended.

Important info here
If you take this little device and try to plug it into a newer computer that only has the newer usb ports, it's going to give you errors and popups that are going to make you think that your computer has been given a virus from them. I used multiple cords and tried every single one of the ports of my laptop and it was the same thing on each of them. However, after reading a review about the usb ports, I took this to the old computer that I let my kids use, and it has the old style usb ports. I plugged it in there and had zero issue at all, it worked fantastically and it was super easy to drag and drop my files into it. The bad reviews for this product are most definitely because of this issue. And while I would LOVE to give this product 5 stars, I can't because had I not had that old clunky computer, I would not have been able to use this. The makers need to fix something so that it will work on the new usb ports too, or at the very least warn people at the very top of the description of this product about the issue. That all said, once I got past that hurdle, this is easy to use, holds a lot of sound files, is thin and flexible and easy to charge, works great, has volume control, can be recorded both from a computer and just from voice, and it's really just all around what I wanted. The only thing that could make this better is if there was an option to randomize the sounds so that when you pressed the button it was a random pick of the sound files that are loaded instead of just cycling in order. If it had that option I would come back and buy 20 more of these. I do recommend this product, but be aware of the usb issue.

Does not perform at all.
Useless - this is the 5th version of sound card that I am trying out and testing. By far, the worst. 1\ took forever to charge, and I am not sure if battery is really working - charged for 3 hours. 2\ could not copy files to the chip. Neither to the root or folder. I had to format the chip, and that seemed to work temporarily. 3\ if I copy really small sound files, it plays on 2-4 second of the sound bite before it cuts out. 4\ I tried using different usb cable, same issues. the reason I bought this is because of the config.txt file options, I never got to use this feature, so I would say it does not work.

Great device, better and less expensive than other similar units
This little sound machine works great. The sound is loud and clear as it can be for a goofy little speaker, perfect for sound effects or short snippets of music -- it's not a Hi-Fi music player. I have had other more expensive units that didn't work nearly as well. The memory is larger as well. I like that the button has a connector instead of being hard-soldered; I plan to replace the switch on one of them with something more appropriate to my particular project. I have an Intel MacBook Pro and it showed up as a drive as expected. It wasn't terribly fast but not the slowest either. I suspect that others who had trouble may have needed a different USB-C cable; some have more capabilities than others. Get a good cable, preferably USB C-to-C if your computer can use it, that is intended for hard drives.

Exceptional for this price point. Very easy to upload your custom MP3 sound. Great speaker.
This little sound module is exceptional for this price point. I needed a little sound thing for an R2D2 cake I was making. It was very easy once I made the MP3 sound on my computer with downloaded free sound bites. I just plugged it into my computer with the provided USB-USBC cable. the unit showed up as a drive to access. I deleted the pre-programmed songs and just dragged/dropped my MP3 onto it. I let it charge for a bit on my computer just in case. Once it was charged, it played beautifully. Very powerful speaker for such a small device. It was perfect!

Does not like Windows 10 - likes XP
Update - there is an instruction sheet where the last two pages describes a configuration file that determines playback mode - mostly to tell what happens when the button is press. It contains two plain text lines in the file you copy to the module. The first line appears to be always IO=01. The second line is the play back mode described in the instruction sheet. For example, PLAY=06 which tells device if button is pressed during playback it stops playing songs. Note the songs are played in the order they are copied to the module. On the last page of the instruction sheet it says that IO=01 and PLAY=02 means random play. There is an additional note, "if no more lines are added, it defaults to audio play in order." Not sure what that means but it might imply multiple PLAY= lines are possible or simply confusing instructions trying to make things clearer. Like that you get 2 devices with 16MB (actually closer to 15MB) of memory each at a good price. Sound quality is actually pretty good but you have to be careful to not copy MP3 audio files with high bit rate and volume which results in distortion on playback. Once you connect to the PC USB, you have to turn the tiny switch on which is located on the side of the card. I have also unplugged the speaker, control button and battery and it can still connect to USB (just turn the switch on). NOTE: This device will swap the default audio on your PC to its own audio hardware. You need to go into the speaker setting on your PC to change the speaker back to your PC. The not so good: 1) Connecting it to Windows 10 is a chore. Windows reports the drive is unreadable and needs to be formatted. You can do that but it does not always work (regardless of full format or quick format). Formatting takes a long time. 2) You can ignore the Windows warning advising you to run a scan to fix drive. It may or may not allow you to access the device even after it reports a complete scan/fix. 2) Sometimes it takes multiple tries to copy files - Windows report cyclical redundancy errors. 3) Sometimes it will simply fail to copy and report drive is inaccessible leaving a zero byte file in the device. You can delete the zero byte file and see go away but for whatever reason it is not really gone. 4) If you delete a file that was successfully copied, memory is not recovered. You end up having to format the device to recover space. 5) Sometimes format fails even if you disconnect and reconnect the USB. Sometimes restarting the PC appears to correct the ability to run format. 6) Got tired of trying to make it work consistently in Windows 10. Thinking Windows 10 is too sophisticated, I pulled out my Windows XP laptop. Plugged the board into its USB. No "Sometimes". No connection issues or warning. Format was quick. Created directories and file (config.txt). Files copied successfully. Deleting files actually work and space is recovered.

Small, incredibly easy to use and very inexpensive
I purchased this because I wanted to add a unique element to our family's Christmas train layout. I used both the voice recorder function and transferred music from my computer. At 192 kbps it will hold approximately 12 minutes of mp3s, which was ample for me, however you could double that by converting your files to 96 kbps Mono. As the device has only one speaker anyway, there would be no loss in quality. Speaking of, the speaker sounds surprisingly good, considering its tiny size. The device itself is extremely easy to use. Once connected to your computer via the onboard USB C, the device appears as any storage device. Just drop the music files in the root folder. There is also a text file you edit to set the button function. The included manual explains it fairly clearly. It is the perfect addition to our layout and I can imagine dozens of other applications. You also cannot complain about the price at $26 CAD for a pair. I could not be more satisfied.

Great little sound unit!
Seems to work well and was pleased with how loud it can go! Programming was straight forward but still can find a setting to have it continuously play? The seller said to set it to 06, but that just plays once and stops. I'm using this unit in the display base of a model to play sound effects and music. I was able to solder and wire external switches to the PCB. Really compact. I mounted it to some foam with a hole cut in the foam for the speaker. This seemed to help amplify the sound a bit more. Cool little product and a good price.
