I chose this methylcellulose powder to use as paste for a paper machete craft project my craft group was working on. There are 8 of us and we needed an ample supply of paste. I followed the directions on the package, made up a batch several hours in advance. As we used it I thinned it by adding water. It actually increased the amount of gel without becoming too thin. We discovered that this gel/paste does not create mould like a flour paste will. One can mix a batch of gel/paste and store it in the fridge. It dries clear. It is easy to paint. It washes off hands and clothing without staining. Overall we were happy to add this wonderful component to our paper machete project. There were zero complaints. We will be using it again in the near future.

The CMC powder was fresh and worked very well..

My purpose for using this is not typical as I use it as a binder for precious metal clay. This was recommended by other artists when the clay loses flexibility. It burns off in a kiln.

Definitely full of impurities. I use agar for making petri dishes and I have gotten many types of agar off Amazon and none of them are lab grade by any means. This product is the only one that actually states it's food grade. If you are planning on using this for mycology I would look elsewhere. Even for food purposes there are very apparent impurities and the agar does not break down all the way in boiling water. There are certainly cleaner options available for similar pricing. UPDATE: Im giving this a one star (previously two) because I taste tested the petri dishes I made. I used 10g of agar powder to 500ml water. Typically the agar I have used in the past has a very mild and almost non existent taste. This agar didn't completely solidify and instead turned into a very odd consistency of gel. When i did the taste test I put one of the poured dishes into my mouth and it was like taking a jello shot of seawater. I wouldn't even use this stuff to make food products with. Very unhappy with the quality of this product. I got a returnless refund from Amazon and tossed it in the trash.

Excellent product

I love this powder. I made some cinnamon toast crunch cereal for my grandchildren and I was amazed at how just 1/4 teaspoon made a big difference. It helped to make the cereal more crunchy without being like a very hard hard to chew something 😆 so yes I definitely recommend it for baking
