WELCOME TO THE 'WAR OF BEING', THE NEW ALBUM FROM THE BRITISH PROG-METAL PIONEERS TESSERACT Since 2018's 'Sonder', TesseracT have risen to new heights across the globe, consistently smashing through glass ceilings & touring arenas with the likes of Bullet for My Valentine, Dream Theater & Gojira. All in addition to being established high-profile festival headliners themselves. On their fifth studio album, 'War Of Being', TesseracT return with a career-high release that is their most conceptual, dynamic & sonically intricate (complex) to date. The story revolves around an inter-dimensional journey undertaken by two characters (Ex & El), within The Strangeland, a world made to reflect the socio-economic state of our own. Throughout its hour-long run time, the band treat listeners to sprawling atmospherics, impassioned vocal performances from Daniel Tompkins & atom bomb level heavy riffs. The band have long been an innovative entity & with 'War Of Being' prove they have become masters of a truly unique sound. The album begins with the reverie shattering 'Natural Disaster', followed by the pendulum swing of 'Legion'. That slingshots us into the herculean title track - the album's 11-minute centrepiece that undulates with precision & power. When coupled with the beguiling melodies of 'The Grey', or the unshielded honesty of 'Burden', the band deliver their most impassioned release to date - an album to excite & inspire. Acle Kahney, Daniel Tompkins, Amos Williams, Jay Postones & James Monteith truly have crafted a phenomenal set of immersive, absorbing sounds. 'War Of Being' was recorded at Middle Farm Studios in the UK. The record was co-produced & engineered by the band & Peter Miles (Dodie, Sylosis, Architects) along with his long-time collaborator Katherine Marsh of Choir Noir (Bring Me The Horizon, Architects, Marillion). Assisting with additional programming & production, the band were joined by Randy Slaugh (Periphery, Architects, Devin Townsend). With additional engineering by Forrester Savell (Karnivool). 'War Of Being' is TesseracT's defining moment, an album that will be remembered as the beginning of a new era for this forward-thinking, dynamic band. 2LP Gatefold Vinyl Edition. Review: Awesome - So good Review: 10/10 - If you enjoyed TesseracT’s previous material then this won’t disappoint. This gets better the more and more you listen to it. Quality output from the Brits.

Death metal growling/high-pitched screaming takes the shine off this otherwise brilliant album.
I love progressive metal and doom metal but only when there is no rubbish death metal growling or high-pitched screaming.. I like my lead singers to actually sing. As soon as they start growling I can’t turn it off quickly enough. I find it laughably bad. Since I buy only vinyl I have to get out of my chair and move the stylus, hence I don’t buy any albums by bands that growl. The tragedy is that most of these bands like Tesseract have brilliant singers who don’t need to growl. Please Tesseract, take a leaf out of my favourite bands like Katatonia, Leprous, Opeth, Soen, Dream Theater, Fates Warning, Redemption, Threshold, Haken, Caligula’s Horse, etc. and dispense with the growling! “War of Being” is filled with great musicianship and great vocals (not going to call then “clean” vocals as it validates growling as vocals!”). Would be a 5-star album without the growling! The music is so good I have actually just bought it on double vinyl…but would be perfect without the screaming/growling! To be fair, most of the growls/screams are in the first half of the album!

A progressive metal masterpiece
Brit tech-metal voyagers took five years to make this record and it shows. Its their most conceptual, dynamic & sonically intricate to date, full of sprawling atmospherics, impassioned vocals & heavy riffs. A phenomenal set of immersive sounds full of precision & power. A progressive metal masterpiece indeed.

Frustrating!
In which Tesseract create the best, most ambitious music of their career, yet half way through I had to turn it off. Why? Because I wholeheartedly agree with the review by Francis above, there is far too much growling and screaming on the vocals, making parts of it almost unlistenable, A great shame for what could have been a classic album that could have appealed to others outside of the genre.. that said, the last track is superb!

Avoid like the plague
I gave this one a try but to no avail. Poor songwriting, muddy production and weak vocals just couldnt get this one above 1 star. Sad, really.

Masterpiece
Doesn’t disappoint. The Pink Floyd of metal it felt like for me. Masterpiece that takes you on a journey.

Grande band e grande album
