I was skeptical; I'll be buying them for all of my drapes
I've been using this now for a few weeks and I am extremely impressed. It ticks the most important "It Just Works(tm)" box. That surprises me. What you're looking at is a small robot designed to travel the length of a curtain rod that is probably extendable (so it's got a big ridge somewhere along the track) and is certainly not designed with the idea of having a robot walking the track. To be clear, I have a somewhat optimal setup for this device. My curtains all use large metal grommets; they slide along the low-end curtain rod easily. I bought one to see how it worked on "the worst" of my curtains: the ones for the sliding glass door that are a single large curtain. I wanted the bot to open the *whole* curtain so I had to remove the center support for the curtain rod[0]. Out of the box, just hooking it up -- bluetooth only -- I could control the curtains from anywhere in my house. The range on this thing is *amazing*! I connected it to my Home Assistant server (via Bluetooth) which is on the opposite end of the house in the *basement* and it has no issue communicating with it. I ended up adding a hub because I had no switch near the window to control it with and the hub had a button that could be setup to control the curtains. Now everything is Matter enabled, too. Here were a few pleasant surprises, though: - The big one: it can be completely invisible. With my curtains, it looks like they just magically open and close. The device is "window side" and no part of it is visible inside the house. It makes a *very* quiet hum while moving. Usually "bolt on" solutions like this look cheap. This looks better than it would if the mechanism were built into the window treatment -- it keeps the classic, low-tech look of "just curtains" and keeps that look. - I have different rods from cheap/tiny to thick, some with about 1/4" transition between the long/short side. It fit every one of my weird randomly purchased rods. - I have dropped the thing from 7' directly onto the track for the door ... it still works ... it's built very well. - I've had it on the original charge that it shipped to me with -- about 80% -- I still have more than half the battery left despite opening/closing those curtains every time the TV is turned on/off (several times a day). I was wishing I'd purchased the solar kit but I don't think I'm going to bother with it, now. It seems it won't require charging more than once every few months, if that, and it's easy to remove (a little trickier to secure at that height, but what can you do?) Best part: not once has this thing failed to fully open the curtains and fully close them. When you ask it to go some place in the middle, it's reliably at that position when it stops. It grips that curtain rod *very* well. [0] Since this is a larger window and I originally had very heavy acoustic curtains, the rod was thick and the center support was unnecessary. I've since replaced the curtain with something much lighter.

Very polished automatic curtain opener
I've never tried the first 2 iterations of the curtain motor, but this third iteration felt very polished. From just unboxing the device, you can see a lot of care was made in designing it as there is very little wasted space in the packaging. It was quite easy to set up although I found the instructional diagrams included in the package a bit hard to read as it's very small. Fortunately, the app comes with the same instructions both in image and video form. My only complaint is that the main part is hard to snap into the hooks while it is hidden behind a curtain and due to the poor visibility, it made it difficult to align the two parts correctly. My hope is that curtain motor 4 might make it even easier to attach a curtain rod. While I was only able to use the rod-shaped variant with grommet curtains as those are the only kind that I have, I was very impressed that it can support so many different curtain types. It had no trouble with my curtain rod despite it being a very thin oval-shaped rod. I didn't follow the instructions exactly for the grommet type curtain as the instructions mentioned that I needed to add chains for the grommets and also an magnetic sticker to indicate to the device where to stop, but it seemed to work just fine without them. The app supported manual calibration where I defined where it should be closed and where it should be open and the device was able to keep track of how far it needed to move. The curtain motor also supported detecting when you're attempting to manually open and close the curtain and will automatically move once you pull the curtain a certain distance. In practice, I was only able to get this behavior to trigger 25% of the time. Besides that, my only complaint with this is that if you have a curtains that open in the middle, then you need two curtain motors to open and close both sides which can get pricey since at the time of writing this review, it cost just under a $100 after tax.

Dead on arrival
Update: I let it charge for 3 days before getting around to returning it, and to my surprise when I tried it one last time it finally turned on! After that it was smooth sailing to get it set up. I couldn't figure out the magnet, but it works just fine without it (there's a bracket where it should stop). I have the hub, so now when I tell Alexa I'm awake, the curtain opens and my coffee maker starts. Only 4 stars due to the original difficulty getting it to charge and turn on. The manual said the light would turn on while charging, but it never did. Original 1-star review: DOA. Would not turn on, would not charge (I tried multiple chargers). Waste of money.

Broken.
I mean... It mostly works. It has some problems with joints on telescoping curtain rods and gets stuck sometimes. It pushes big heavy curtains better than the older ones did. I want to love them. But the problem is that I ordered 3 of them, and they all worked for a while. But in the last couple of months, 2 of the 3 have broken completely. There is a small plastic tab on the side that holds the screws that hold the two halves together, and those plastic tabs have snapped on 2 of them. This causes them to stop working entirely. I decided to not go through Switchbot support because I have had awful experiences with them regarding our S10 vacuum. So I tried gluing them. The glue holds them together, but it's clear that something inside shook loose while it was split open, so they still will not function. Into the garbage they go, and I'll be getting another brand of vacuum next time I need one because of their customer service.

WAY better than having new remote curtains installed
My husband and I purchased these after getting an outrageous quote to have remote blinds installed in our home. We LOVE these! You can control the open/close via an app on your phone or just give them a gentle tug and that will initiate the open/close function. One item of note: We have these on a set of windows that are wide, so the drapery bar has an extension rod in the middle. When we open/close the drapes, the SwitchBot would pull that inner rod to one side (because it grips the rod as it runs back and forth). There is a piece you can buy with the SwitchBot to prevent this, so I would recommend that if you are working with a long span like we are, definitely spend the extra to get those pieces. (Initially, we used black electrical tape to prevent the inner rod from sliding out and it worked fine - we have black drapery rods, so you couldn't see the tape.). Also, from the inside, you can't see the unit - there is no bulge to indicate that anything was behind the curtain. We did not purchase the additional solar panel that you can use for charging. We will just charge them when needed. It's been 5 months and haven't had to charge them up yet.

It’s life altering!
I am disabled and can’t move around very well. My curtains are on the opposite side of the room of my side of the bed. It’s very difficult to get to them at times so someone else had to open and close them for me. Sometimes they just did not get opened. That’s what makes it life altering. I have set the schedule to open it at 8:00 a.m. and I get to wake up every morning to the beautiful light coming through my windows. It’s also quite handy for a person who suffers with migraines. I have the remote so all I have to do is push a button and the curtain closes. I watched the installation video about three times before attempting putting it on my rod. I had no trouble at all. And set up was extremely easy. What came in the box was a charging cable, both sides to the one switchbox and an instruction Manuel. I found that the video was more beneficial. Once installed behind your curtain you can operate it with your smart phone after downloading the SwitchBot app. If you don’t have a smart phone then you can purchase a remote to open and close the curtain. If you have an Alexa then you can purchase a hub to voice control. (I’m saving up for that one). It’s pricey but very much worth it especially if your movement is limited.

Misleading Description - NOT compatible with Alexa.
Works great and installation was honestly a breeze. There's a lot of info in the instructions so it might seem overwhelming at first but you realize it's because they write the instructions for EVERY single curtain type. It's really straightforward and I didn't use the beads for my grommet curtains. Literally just snapped the thing onto my curtain rod, stuck the magnet sticker thingy on one end, and it was good to go. The major gripe I have about this is that we were all misled into thinking this was Alexa compatible. it is not. You need to buy the hub to make it Alexa compatible. I also am not even sure how the hub would make this compatible, what extra functions I'd actually get through my Alexa if I were to connect this through a hub... it's all very unclear. And because having everything streamlined through my Alexa is a priority for me, I had to knock off 2 stars.

1 of a kind device, works superbly
The SwitchBot Curtain is one of those smart home devices that just makes life easier. I installed it on my heavy, energy-efficient curtains, and it had no trouble opening and closing them smoothly. Now, instead of manually adjusting them throughout the day, I have them set on a schedule to let in natural light in the morning and close at night for privacy. Setup was surprisingly simple, and the motor is quiet but powerful. The battery lasts a long time, but I have an outlet right next to the curtains where I installed this and will likely go that route instead of the solar panel. The curtain opener also integrates well with other SwitchBot products, making automation seamless. I have it exposed to Home Assistant and it works like a charm! For anyone looking to make their home smarter and more convenient, this is a great addition. Highly recommend!

Favoloso !

Klare Kaufempfehlung!
